Vij's1480 West 11th Avenue, Vancouver
Great food - but a bit chilly inside
Submitted Monday, October 10, 2011 - 11:38pm [Dine in]

Have been to Vij's a few times - food, service is quite simply awesome. But what's with the draft, especially if you get stuck with a seat by the door.

I do find the space a bit cramped - but to complain thusly seems a bit churlish given the food is quite amazing. I would say gorgeous but I am not sure that I can use the adjective to describe taste, etc. Anyhow, you get the point. It's money well spent and you will love the food.

Sala Thai888 Burrard, #102, Vancouver
My favourite Thai

In one word - awesome. Great food, great service (can a bit slow at lunch sometimes), and very reasonably priced (not sure what the other reviewer found so expensive). I have lunch here at least once a week; it's a bit of a walk from my office, but well worth it. The lunch deals are well-priced - under $10 for a decent lunch; not sure where else in downtown Vancouver one can get a decent, sit-down, served lunch for under that. My favourite is the drunken seafood - spicy and just right.

Urban Fare1133 Alberni St, Vancouver
My favourite lunch place
Submitted Sunday, October 9, 2011 - 11:06am [Dine in]

I love Urban Fare - it's close to my office and I go there for lunch at least 2-3 times a week, sometimes more. The salad bar is awesome; the food is solid and great lunch fare and a great deal. If you can get a better deal on lunch elsewhere in this town, I would very much like to know.

But the best thing about UF - great coffee and quite awesome service - friendly and top-notch. And, even better, they have the music just right. No Top 40 blaring away - jazz, big band, swing, crooners - just the right touch for a relaxing lunch and coffee. And, you know what, some of the women who work there are really very cute.

The Best Halibut Ever
Submitted Saturday, October 1, 2011 - 7:10pm [Dine in]

I was actually at the restaurant a few months ago, but recently discovered this site, hence a delayed review. I have eaten in many great restaurants - here, across Canada, and Europe - and this gem ranks in my top 10 for one simple reason: the best halibut I have ever had .. . . yummy!

If the halibut is a yardstick, then I am sure that most the other items on the menu are top notch.

Delany's Coffee House1277 Lynn Valley Rd, #169, North Vancouver
Great coffee, great staff, great location - but really awful music
Submitted Saturday, October 1, 2011 - 7:05pm [Dine in]

Love this place - the staff, in general, are truly great and the coffee is quite possibly the smoothest in the city. But, we avoid the place for one simple reason - the music can be loud and obnoxious. Top 40, Elton John, Celine Dion should be banned. It's bad enough that you hear this crap everywhere you go, but a coffee house that plays this crap ruins everything.

I used to think it was only a few of us (my girlfriend and I) who felt this way, but got to chatting with a nice couple who also commented on the music and how they hated being bombarded by a wailing Whitney Houston or Celine Dion. I really wish they would change the music - I hate Starbucks but they at least have their music selection right. And, you know what, the couple, left without making a purchase.
