Good experience
Submitted Friday, September 24, 2010 - 10:17am [Dine in]

I used a coupon when I dined at this restaurant, so I gave 4 for the value. Otherwise it might be 3. The food was kinda hit and miss, but I rated 4 because of their fabulous cheese tofu. The cheese tofu itself was 5/5 in my opinion. I loved it. It really tasted like cheese but had the tofu texture. We were wondering whether it was softened cheese or cheese-flavored tofu or the mixture of both. It accompanied with almonds, strawberry, and syrup, which perfectly balanced the creaminess of the cheese tofu. I found their prawn tempura good but not great. Prawns were huge, and the tempura batter was not too thick and not oily. Their kushi(?) combination was just ok as there was nothing special about it, the taste mainly came from the deep fried batter, and the filling itself was underseasoned. At the end we got a black sesame ice cream. This was good enough for us. Ambiance was kinda cramped, but the service was not to complain about.

pretty good and creative food
Submitted Friday, September 24, 2010 - 9:52am [Dine in]

Based on the food I tried, it was pretty good. The BBQ ribs, which is argued as their signature dish, was my favorite. The ribs were tender, meaty and not fatty, and well-marinated. It could be a bit too salty for some people, but I like how the seasonings penetrated into the meat so the meat itself was already good without BBQ sauce. Salmon tartar was good too. It was kinda creamy due to the avocado and the raw quail egg, but the creaminess was kinda balanced by the spicy sauce (although I didn't find it spicy at all). The other ones were just okay, hitsuma bushi was interesting, the roulette roll was standard but had good sauce, the sashimi salad was below my expectation. I should've given 3.5 due to the okay ones, but I guess 3.5 rounds up to 4 instead of 3. Service was prompt, ambiance was a bit busy, value was... well.. still acceptable I think.

inexpensive cakes
Submitted Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - 10:15pm [Dine in]

The cakes are made with care, but the price is reasonable. The texture of the cakes are soft and fluffy and moist. When I came in, the variety of cakes didn't look very appealing, just like some common cakes. I thought the taste would also be so so. But I was wrong. They are very flavorful, not too sweet, but not bland. You can really taste the flavour described on each cake. The cream is not too heavy, so 4 cakes won't make me sick of cream. The waiter was friendly and patient.

sinful. but that's the point
Submitted Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - 10:03pm [Dine in]

If you do like ice cream and you are not afraid with fat, then this is a perfect place for you. Last time I really wanted some treat and I had been craving for some ice cream. When I came to this store, I knew it's gonna be expensive. But this was what I was looking for and I thought once in a month paying too much for something I really like should be okay. I didn't care about how fatty my ice cream was gonna be nor how much money the bill would came to. I just wanted some good dessert. So I went for the birthday cake ice cream which was really tasty but sinful, and I chose sinful but favourite toppings, and white chocolate oreo waffle. All I can say is that I enjoyed the combination so muchhh. Maybe it's just because ice cream is my favourite food. But you know, if you really want something good from this store, then don't limit yourself. Otherwise it might be just half good.

it's not my guu
Submitted Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - 11:04am [Dine in]

I don't understand why people rated this restaurant so high. I think this is the worst guu location instead. I found that the menu was so limited, and the daily special was also very limited and not interesting. I ended up ordering the common ones like udon and tuna steak. They were both decent but a bit boring for me and not that impressive. I also ordered the drunken mussel. This was nauseous. I think they put too much sake or something in it and the mussel was knda rare. It only tasted like rare mussel poured with sake and there was no other spices to balance the flavour. Maybe I picked the wrong items, maybe it was just me who don't like these kind of food, or maybe I was not hungry. But it was really disappointing. I'm not going back to this guu location.

not disappointed
Submitted Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - 10:48am [Dine in]

I had wanted to check out this restaurant after reading some good reviews below, and I wasn't disappointed. I had some fish and rice noodle and chicken. They were all tasty, but not so for the chicken. My rice noodle wasn't a pad thai since I wanted to try something else, but it was very good. It tasted different but made you feel like eating more and more. The curry and spices for the fish blended very well too. The batter was not too thick and the fish was fresh. I came here for dinner and the price seemed a bit higher than the ones on their website. Maybe the lunch would be a better value. However, the overall was good. I have no complaint on the service or the ambiance.

If I could rate the food 4.5 then I would. Their panini was so yummy that I think I would finish the whole focaccia if I'm not on a diet. It's just a sandwich, but it does not taste like a usual sandwich. The combination of sauces blends well. Their homemade sauce is unique but very tasty. I had the turkey sandwich with provolone cheese and some veggies and sauces. It sounds so so because I had no idea which combination would be good. But then it turned out to be really good. My sandwich was generously stuffed with a high pile of turkey breasts and it only came to 6.50 o 7.50 I can't remember clearly. I must come back someday to have another sandwich.

delicious noodles
Submitted Sunday, July 26, 2009 - 3:22pm [Dine in]

I ordered their special menu, which was spicy beef noodles or something. I can't deny that the noodle soup is indeed delicious and generous. However, I think their food is just too fatty. I can see too much oil floating on my soup. I thought it was jsut because they put a lot of chili oil, but then it was the same case on somebody's clear beef noodle soup without chili oil. They also use low quality beef that is full of fat. I struggled when eating my meal because I was trying to trim the fat inside every slice of beef I was about to eat. I might be coming back to try another kind of food, but not sure of that.

I had their dim sum on a sunny day. It's not the best dim sum I've ever had. But it's not bad. Their dim sum tasted average. Some of them is quite boring. But the char siew bun is good. The mango pudding is worse than I expected, but I still enjoyed it since I love mango pudding. Service is jsut like the other chinese restaurants. The waitresses tend to be rushing, so I can't relax when choosing what I want.

right choice
Submitted Sunday, July 26, 2009 - 3:01pm [Dine in]

I came to this restaurant weeks ago but still remember roughly how good their steak was. The meat was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of moistness, sauce, and tenderness. I told the waitress that I would share the steak with my mom. When the meal arrived, the meat was served halved on both plates with some mashed potatoes. It is not cheap, but I guess it's just a solid value because even after the steak was cut into two parts, it was still huge and fulfilling that I thought I had a full portion. The mashed potatoes was just okay. Cactus Club has better mashed potatoes. But it's just a side meal anyway so I won't bother it too much.

i came here last week for dinner with some friends and left with a great dinner experience. the squab was so good though greasy. the lobster was really fresh. its sauce tasted just okay actually, but its meat was perfectly cooked. the other dishes were tasty and satisfying. we ordered so much food that we were all full and i was afraid that we would spend around $200. but when the bill came, i realized it was only around $100. service was good. they changed our dirty plates often. i might wanna go back to try their other menu.

pretty good value for the current promotion
Submitted Thursday, June 25, 2009 - 12:12pm [Dine in]

their current promotion is strawberry festival or strawberry something (i don't quite remember). for $7 you'll get a plate of hashbrown, sausages or bacons, and omelette, plus one portion of strawberry pancake or crepe or french toast. i think they're all decent and filling. i like the strawberry cream cheese. it's not like usual cream cheese. they also have some more syrups on the tables if you want to add more or mix them with your syrup. the portion is pretty big, so i could eat them twice, for lunch and dinner. but their original menu seems a bit pricey, which is $9 on average and you won't get an extra meal. but of course it depends on how big the portion is, which i don't know. the waiter was friendly and nice enough, but there was a waitress which was quite rude. i might wanna go back to try their pancakes or crepes in the original menu.

i could make it better
Submitted Monday, June 22, 2009 - 10:54pm [Dine in]

i was kinda disappointed with the food. i don't know if it's because i ordered the wrong thing, but my food (noodle) tasted so standard though it sounds like their special noodle. i probably can make sth like that too, or even better. yes it's cheap but you'll get very few meats in your food. so i don't really think it's a good value. their bubble tea doesn't taste good either. well, i can finish it, but it's not that good. it's just too sweet and the powder is so strong that it tastes so artificial.

fresh fish
Submitted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

the fish actually tasted so fresh and was tender and flaky. but the problem is that it didn't have much flavour. the flavour seems to come merely from pepper you sprinkle on it and from the dipping sauce. i'm wondering if they cooked it purely without spice or flavouring at all because they want to let us taste the freshness of the fish. for me i just don't really like it. the portion is huge though. the price is $15 on average, but it definitely will satisfy your hunger. i gave them 3 stars for the value because i'm not quite sure about the standard price for fish n chip dishes, but for me it's still quite expensive. ambiance is good. it's simple but clean.

Submitted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 10:49pm [Dine in]

maybe this is just because of their location that they charge lil bit high for the food. the overall food was standard for me. i ordered a combo. the house roll was a good one, but then the mixed tempura disappointed me. there were about 5 or 6, only 2 of which were prawn tempura. i was hoping that they had yam tempura as well, but apparently not. the other ones were only filled with hard veggies, such as green bell pepper (which i hate), etc (i don't remember exactly). portion was small, taste was okay, the udon soup consisted only noodle (not even veggie). service was pretty good. the waitress never forgot to refill my tea and ask me whether i was okay.

nice shaved ice
Submitted Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 12:36am [Dine in]

i tried the shaved ice here, not the bubble tea yet. the shaved ice was worth trying. the ice was so smooth. i never had such smooth shaved ice like that before. for $5 you'll get 3 toppings n a pretty big portion of flavoured ice. the toppings were flavorful too. i like the pudding one for the topping.
the place is small, like usual bubble tea place. but this place is clean, and so is the tables.
overall, i was pretty satisfied with it.

i admit that their cinnamon roll is tasty. i often get sick of cinnamon flavour when eating a whole big cinnamon bun, or if i eat my cinnamon bun slowly and so the bun is cooling down in the air. but not this time. i could finish the whole bun without feeling nauseous. even after the bun became cold, it didn't make me sick. for the drink i ordered a white chocolate raspberry frapps. it's kinda unique but very good as well. however, the muffin doesn't taste that good. i guess that's because the muffin is fat-reduced, but it tasted plain, just like a whole wheat bread. but if it's really low fat n low calorie, then it's okay. the size of the muffin is huge though.
the service, ambiance, n value i think are just standard.

i was pretty satisfied with their food. it tasted nice, slightly better than my expectation. i just didn't like their fried cracker on my food(looked like a fried wonton but i don't know what that's called) because it was greasy. good price for the portion and the ingredients. i would give 3.5 stars for the value if the option were available.
the staffs were friendly enough to me. the place, however, was rather messy. the tables and chairs looked dirty. i guess it's because of their location.

not so bad
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 10:14am [Dine in]

the food was okay. i ordered the hugs n kisses which is basically brownies with cream cheese. it was good but didn't impress me so much. with the name "death by chocolate" i thought they would have better chocolate cakes. but again, it didn't taste bad.
the price was around $7, which i think is kinda expensive for a "not very special" cake.
i don't really like the ambiance. last time they turned on very loud music, but it was actually from radio. so smetimes heard loud advertisements, which was annoying.
