Maybe it's true .. all good things do come to an end? Have been going here regularly for months, but in the last two visits there has been a noticeable decline in ambiance and service. Food is still decent, although the sashimi is not as good as it has been. Service is generally poor, and staff there are hardly accommodating in that they'll force a couple (2) to sit where they want you too, often that tiny table by the door or the bar along the window, even if there are larger tables open. We will probably continue to eat here if in the Metrotown area, but more than likely spread our business around.
and they've done a great job! Last time I visited here was about a year ago, and while it was dingy and run-down this was more than offset by the good seafood.
Well, talk about an upgrade! New decor, place is bright, clean and cheerful. We arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night and while it was very busy we didn't have to wait (Limited number of smaller tables). Service was very good -- prompt and efficient. Food was excellent. Try the pan-fried prawns (delicious) !
Sometimes, an eatery goes through renovations and the character or the quality of the food goes downhill. This is not the case -- I'll continue to patronize this place, and might even find myself there more frequently.
Looking for some quick Japanese food while waiting for your movie at Silver City? Taisho is only OK -- ambiance and menu is reminiscent of a Japanese version of 'Red Robin'. Sushi on the conveyor belt appears (and tastes) a little bit tired -- so, I suggest you stay away from it. Overall, food off the menu (Yakisoba and the Chicken Teriyaki on Rice) was tasty and the portions were ample. Service was pleasant. Not a bad experience, if you're looking for a quick meal at Metrotown.
Visited this place for a later (8pm) Saturday dinner; menu offered a good variety of items and prices seem very reasonable; Being a bit tired and lazy we opted for 'Dinner for Two' off the back page of the menu. It was OK and somewhat predictable. Egg rolls were decent; both the sweet and sour pork and the beef chop suey could have used a little bit more pork and beef respectively. Chow mein noodles were good;
Service friendly and attentive. Worth a repeat visit if I found myself in the neighborhood again.
Last night's experience had to be the worst I've experienced anywhere. The food was poor quality; tuna sashimi was poor texture. However, the service here was below incompetent. Long time to get served (and it wasn't even busy); server botched the order and brought wrong dish; she had to be asked several times to bring additional the item to complete the order; finally received it. Took a long time to get the bill; paid the server, and as I was walking out the door with my 11 yr old we were chased by yet another server screaming at us that we "hadn't paid the bill." What a deligthful experience.
So many better Japanese restaurants in the greater Vancouver area -- don't bother going here.
