A much frequented stop when tooling about the neighbourhood, I love it and the kids love it. They make some of our favourite muffins, and the coffee is always great. We also buy the beans to enjoy at home.
Great place for a quick stop and great place to sit and chat.
Despite this being a neighbourhood pub of mine it's one I've mostly just talked about going to without actually doing it. I finally went the other night and it was great! I loved the numerous beers on tap, and especially the fact that they had tasters, 4 beer for 8$. They weren't stingy with the beer either, they were nice little glasses and I LOVED being able to try several beers without drinking heavily.
We also ordered the nacho's and I was quite happy with those as well. Lots of guacamole, black beans and all the other likely suspects.
I will be returning here often.
Lee's Donuts have been a favourite of mine for some time, and I'm busily introducing people to them when I get the chance.
I have found they are always fresh, and sometimes hot (making them extra delicious). They also keep well for a day or so in the fridge (mine don't last longer than this usually).
The staff have always been friendly and cheerful, and I enjoy coming here.
This is not a sit down place though, so if you are looking for that type of thing don't come here. I like to get my donuts and then go around the corner to the JJ Bean counter for my coffee. Yum.
That said...if you are coming here for the crepes don't expect to be equally amazed. I'd go to a crepe place for amazing crepes..but these ones past muster. They are basic and not terrible...but nothing special.
I happened to live in the area when glowbal opened so got to check them out first thing. It has been a favourite of mine since then.
The staff are always friendly, even if they aren't able to be super quick, making a bit of a wait (if you have one) more bearable.
The food is always spot on. I've been there many many times and can't think of a single time when I've not liked what I had.
The tapas are a must. I always have to have a few, and I also almost always get dessert. Yum.
I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have yet to have any big complaints.
This one remains at the top of my list despite the passing years.
I love this little place, and love that it hasn't changed in the years since it opened. The owner and family/staff are all great and do thier best with service even when very busy. The food has never been anything but enjoyable and it's a decent price to boot. I must insist though, if she has any made, that you try the tres leche cake. It has been my favourite cake since I first tried it 4 or 5 years ago and will make a special trip just for it (by the way...if you are a little obsessive like me she will make you a cake all your own, but it'll cost you, after-all some of her ingredients she has shipped up from south america special!)
I always like coming here because they actually cook with summer savory!!... and that means I can get awesome chicken fricot with delicious fluffy dumplings. I feel comfortable here but have never paid all that much attention to the decor, I just wanted good Maritime/Acadian food and that is just what I got. Yay.
I used to go here for the breakfast buffets a fair bit when living downtown, I loved the variety of food I got and how helpful the staff was. Although I visit far less now I still enjoy it, although I feel as though I am getting less for my buck than before...but that could just be because my buck needs to go further these days! Overall a good bet. A nice place to relax on a Sunday morning.
I always enjoy my visits here because not only do they have great coffee, latte's etc. they also have decent sweets, great art to look at and long for a good staff. I usually come away amused at the antic's or conversation of the staff and quite satisfied with my visit whether I've sat and relaxed or just dropped in to grab a latte.
I like to go here once in awhile even though I no longer live downtown, it's funky and fun for breakfast or lunch (never been later than lunch). Service is occasionally slow but not too bad really. The food comes in good size portions and the price is right, milkshakes are also a must.
This place is always busy and it's because it's good. Service can be a tad slow but due to the amount of people here on average I've no complaints, besides the staff are so good humoured it's hard to find fault. Food is always outstanding so whenever I think I can handle the crowds it's a sure thing.
As I take my dog to Trout Lake often I frequently will stop by Libby's for a bite to eat. I've tried many of the menu items and have enjoyed most of them. Libby's has recently changed hands and I found the new owner to be very nice and open to comments. The food had not been altered at all at that time (it was only a day or two after the switch) and I was assured it would not change a great deal. I haven't been back yet but likely will be soon.
I admit, I was first drawn here by the cheap prices...and I almost exclusively go for breakfast but I've yet to be disappointed. The service is always decent, not spectacular but I've had lots worse, and the meals are a good size for a very good price. The decor is not very exciting, although they have recently changed a few things, but I visit for thier good filling breakfast and good prices...ps. the swiss and mushroom omlette is rich but really tasty!
I've been here twice since they opened and have enjoyed myself both times. Some menu items I really liked and others not at all, and I did find the tapas to be a bit pricey but okay overall. The beer is really what makes this place a good spot to visit though. So, good for a quaff and a snack...but maybe not a meal.
As a new place on the Drive I had to check it out and recently did that. I enjoyed my burrito (chicken) as did my husband (chiken/beef mix). Having worked a short stint at 'Steamrollers' years ago I have come to appreciate good 'fixin's' and this place has them. I'd say it's worth it to pay extra for the guac. but not that much. I found the food in general to be a little over priced but a good meal none the less. Staff here and at thier new Broadway location (which I happened to visit on opening day) were both great.
I have been here a few times over the years and usually at the behest of someone else. My first experience was not good (the usual complaints...very slow service, mediocre food) and no visit since has improved that opinion. I've heard good things about the pizza but was not thrilled myelf, and the pasta is rarely pleasing. Even if the food was great though I don't think it would make me want to return given the typically horrible service. Don't waste your time going here.
I quite enjoy La Casa and always point it out to people or take people there when they want some gelato. They have my favourite flavours (which are unusual ones) and that keeps me coming back. It can get crazy busy so I try to visit in the 'less' busy times, but staff are always friendly and willing to help you make your decision.
Living in the neighbourhood this place has become one of my favourites...not because it's a spectacular place but because I enjoy thier menu items (especially being a breakfast person) and they are very consistent. I often enjoy the staff, even when they get harried and as a result I have a bit more patience here than some other places. It is often very hot inside but I tend to mainly visit during quieter times and so can find a seat at the window or outside (in summer). Over all a good place to bring the paper or your book and relax a bit over your food.
I have been here several times over the past few years and have both good and bad experiences. Service can sometimes be slow, but I am not hesitant to get up and get things myself or ask for them directly. I quite enjoy the distressed decor and find this place a good one to relax in. I always enjoy thier mojito's. The menu keeps changing which has it's up and down sides (good to have variety but the things I really like keep going away!), but at least I can always get edemame and those delicious sweet potato fries. I also enjoy the mussles and can often get by quite happily without ordering any entree at all.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first went to Frenchie's and wasn't disappointed. I loved the ambiance, and the food was okay. Typical diner fare in my estimation. I was a bit disappointed in the poutine, it seems rather sparse in terms of cheese and gravy. The tourtiere was decent, needed a bit more of the spices. Overall I enjoy my visits there. I don't have super high expectations and it's filling food with good portions. The service is variable, sometimes great other times almost non-existant so that part is a real toss up when you visit.
