A decent Chinese restaurant
Submitted Saturday, July 4, 2009 - 7:07pm [Dine in]

I have been going to this Chinese restaurant regularly for dim sum. It can get really busy on week-ends so you might expect a line up. The restaurant is rather noisy so it can also be difficult to carry out a conversation.

I really enjoy the beef and vegetable fried noodles and yeung chow fried rice from the place. In my opinion, these dishes are better than the ones served at Hon's. The dim sum is decent for the price but it can be a bit salty sometimes.

Service is decent, but don't expect to be treated like at a more higher end restaurant. They'll prop the utensils down on your table sometimes so you're going to have to sort them out yourself.

A long-time fan of Stepho's!
Submitted Saturday, July 4, 2009 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

I have been a long-time customer of Stepho's. Two weeks ago, I went with a group of 7 for a special occasion. There was a lineup as we went during dinner time. However, we had people volunteering to line up ahead of time so we all didn't have to be there at the same time.

I ordered one of my favorites - the lamb slouvaki. My other favorites include the calamari dinner and the spanakopita dinner (not on the menu but you can order it). I also had a cosmo to go along with my meal, which was pleasant.

The waiter was funny and charming. We really had a great time there and the food came out at the same time for all of us. Overall, it was a good dinner experience as always!

Good view but bad food
Submitted Saturday, July 4, 2009 - 6:56pm [Dine in]

I tried this restaurant last Thursday night. There was a bit of wait for the tables on the outside deck so we waited in the lounge for about 20 minutes. They came and got us when the table was ready.

We tried the wild salmon (2 pieces) and chips which amounted to $17.99 + tax. You can substitute potatoe fries for yam fries. The fish was rather greasy and the fries were slightly burnt. I recommend Tony's Fish & Oyster Cafe (see my review) rather than this place for fish and chips.

The view was great on the deck, but the food wasn't great.

A decent restaurant but not the best Chinese out there
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:14pm [Dine in]

I had a wonton soup at this restaurant for lunch the other day. I also tried a sweet/sour soup also. My shared bill came out to be around $8 including tax and tip. The food was decent but nothing really exciting. I would recommend going into the Asian food court across the restaurant for some decent food instead of this restaurant. That way, you can save the tip!

A solid restaurant but nothing spectacular
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 2:09pm [Dine in]

I went to this restaurant with a large group of over 10 people for lunch yesterday. The food was solid but nothing spectacular. The people I went with were happy with the hamburgers and salad. I had a baked potatoe soup which was solid and it came with cheese bread. It came out to be about $6.50 including tax and tap.

Cute little restaurant in Surrey

Today, I visited Sushi Train for the second time. The restaurant has both Japanese and Korean food. I tried their Udon from their Korean menu for $5.99 + tax + tip. I found it to be very good - had the right amount of flavor without being loaded with too much MSG. The waitresses always come around to check on your tea and I appreciated the fact that I did not have to call on them for that!

Perhaps not good for large groups
Submitted Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 5:52pm [Dine in]

I went to this restaurant with around 10 people for lunch recently. I did not find that the taste of my noodle dish (lunch special) particularly appetizing. The portions were okay for a small person but is unlikely filling for someone larger. The lunch specials are around $8 + tax+tip. The food seemed to take a long time to come out to us perhaps because we were a large group. Furthermore, the restaurant messed up one of my colleagues orders but she accepted the dish anyways. I would not go to this restaurant again.

Why pick this japanese restaurant out of all the other ones?

The terikayki don that I had was of poor quality. The california rolls did not taste fresh. However, the ambiance of the restaurant is not bad. I would avoid this place given that there are so many better options out there in Richmond. I think that the food court in Lansdowne mall would fair better options that this restaurant.

Great place to have fish and chips on a sunny day at Granville Island
Submitted Wednesday, June 3, 2009 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

I am always wary of fish and chip places because most of the time I get greasy and very salty chips. However, this place surprised me because the fish and chips were neither greasy nor salty! It seemed like a place that cooked the food more "heathily."

We had a halibut burger and 2 pieces of fish + chips. The amount came out to be about $22 for takeout. You can sit outside the cafe on a bench while you wait for takeout and they will bring the food to you. The price was okay given the premium one must pay for the location of this cafe.

Great service, great food, great ambiance but small portions
Submitted Wednesday, June 3, 2009 - 4:36pm [Dine in]

I went to this restaurant on a weekday evening last week for dinner with 2 friends. It is close to the Scotiabank theatres in Downtown Vancouver. The inside of the restaurant looks significantly better than the outside. It was surprising that the inside looked so nice.

The waitress was very charming and she provided great service. Each of us had an alcoholic drink (approx $6-7 for daily special), and we then shared a coconut dish which was spicy, a mee goreng, an eggplant dish, and chicken satays (appetizer). We also had to order a jasmine rice as the dishes we had did not come with rice. The satays came out to $1.50-$2 a piece which is very expensive. The coconut dish, mee goreng and egg plant dishes were about $10-$15 each. The jasmine rice is about $1.75. Including tax and tap, our bill was about $30/person.

The food was quite tasty but the value was very poor given the portions.

Charming little restaurant in Surrey

I had the opportunity to sample this restaurant during lunch time. I ordered a mee, but I can't remember the exact name! The food came out quickly and the taste was quite good. The price was decent for the portions. The noodle was approximately 9 dollars including tax and tip. As a regular at Banana Leaf and Tropika, I found that this restaurant was surprisingly good.
