Pre-Game Meal
Submitted Friday, November 27, 2009 - 9:57am [Dine in]

Went here before a Canucks game and they have a BBQ option for $10.99. You get 2 of 3 options, buger, chicken or prawns. Had the chicken and prawns. Chicken tasted very processed and looked like one of those frozen pre-seasoned ones. The 5 prawns were skewered and were just average. The meal also comes with unlimited fries, coleslaw, salad, and pasta salad. The meal was just OK but I guess you can't expect much for $11. Better than having a meal at the game. Service was quick (self serve) and the place was a typical sports bar. Would return for another pre-game meal only.

Went during the week and never had Ethiopian food before. Sampled a few vegetarian and meat dishes. Comes in a large platter with a crepe/thin bread covering the bottom of the platter. Lamb was very good as well as the chicken. No utensils so break crepe and use your hands. Veggie options were not as good as it was quite bland. Didn't really like the crepe/bread as it was too cake like and cold. Family style restaurant so don't expect nice ambiance (TV on in the back) and service was just average.

Great Dim Sum
Submitted Monday, November 2, 2009 - 11:43am [Dine in]

Went early on a weekend and lot of parking and tables. Great selection of dim sum from the traditional to the more unique. Overall all of the dim sum was very good. Very fresh and lots flavour. Service has always been good and the ambiance is one of the best as you are not crowded in, high ceilings and just not as noisy as other dim sum places. I think there is a special before 11am but very reasonable prices for the quality.

A line up to give you money
Submitted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 4:15pm [Dine in]

I don't understnd places that have a long line up to pay and why the store/restaurant doesn't add another cashier. This is the case at Bosa as they have a long line up during lunch. Waited for serveral minutes for a grilled sandwich that was just OK. The price is reasoanble but I wouldn't return. The line ups are from the local Olympic offices so they don't have much choice on where to go. Service rated as poor due to the wait. The store is much better.

Other than wings, food is bad.
Submitted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 9:40am [Dine in]

Went during a weekday to watch a hockey game. Their TV's are too small for the room and the large screen is too blurry. Not a place to catch a game. On to the food, ordered the thai and jamaican wings, pretty good, but the wings were a bit small. About a dozen flavours to choose from. Ordered their build your own pasta. Had the meat sauce and it was really bad. Too sweet, don't know why (onions or added sugar) and left about 1/2 of it. Service was pretty good and attentive. Overall, would not go back.

Checked this place out during lunch and ordered the Pad Siu. It's suppose to be think fresh rice noodles but they seem to just use the Pad Thai noodles which make it just taste more like Pad Thai. Pretty good flavours and freshly made but wouldn't try this again. Price is just ok at about $7. Service is fast.

Went here on a weeknight and was surprised how busy it was. Found they had a special $25 meal between 6-7. Started with the beet salad - very good, and then the lamb shank - big portion and very tasty, liked the sides as well. Finished with the chocolate terrine. Very good. Small but nice selection of local wines to pair with the food. Very good and friendly service. Small room but done nicely. Would return again.

Went here for lunch and passed on the buffet, which at $11 seems like a good deal but some of the offerings were not to our liking. Ended up ordering 3 items off the menu. Butter Chicken - nice rich taste and average amount of chicken, Lamb with spinach - very nice smooth taste, and Chlli chicken - medium spicy with good flavours. Ordered rice and naan as well. Service was just ok as most of the restaurants went to the buffet. Value was good but the restaurant could use a bit of a facelift. Overall just OK.

Just OK
Submitted Monday, October 19, 2009 - 3:24pm [Dine in]

Stopped here on a Friday to catch the game a bite to eat on the way in to Victoria. Service was a bit slow as it was quite busy. The nachos were just OK, average quality toppings on average chips. Tried their steak pie, too much goopy gravy over the pie and the inside was a bit too salty. Prices were a bit on the high side for what I got. Wouldn't go back.

With the area around the restaurant improving, visited on a weekend. Streets felt a bit more safe. Sat at the bar as all tables were reserved. Had the wonton soup - very good with a rich broth, squid - nice big pieces and tender, kung pao chicken - good portion with nice peanut type sauce. Great service at the bar, perhaps due to the owner being the bartender/server. Overall a nice place with good ambiance.

Food letdown
Submitted Friday, October 9, 2009 - 9:47am [Dine in]

Visited during a weekday after making reservations. Greeted upon entry and shown a table. Was able to switch as it wasn't the best which was appreciated. The menu is not too extensive and the appies didn't sound too appealing. The drink menu is 3x the size of the food menu. Chose the mussels in tomoto cream sauce. Very nice portions with good flavours. A few not opened which they should of checked. Had a taste of the duck breast which was very good as well as the lamb which was a just oK. Didn't like the couscous with the lamb. Service throughout was excellent and the side rooom in the back was perfect. Value was not there as the mains were $25+ and for what you received, not worth it.

Nice Ambiance but Food isa bit lacking
Submitted Friday, October 9, 2009 - 9:41am [Dine in]

Visited during a weekday for lunch and sat at the bar. Really nice design with sleek interior and great washroom. Service was a bit slow as we had to wait for quite a long time before a server attended. It wasn't that busy so really no excuse. Tried the beef carpacio and tuna spring rolls (think that's what they were called). The beef was quite good, but a bit on the salty side while the rolls were bad as they seem to have too much covering, a wrap plus noodles. Tried the chicken sandwich which was average. Overall, not that great value for the price but maybe will try it during dinner time for their steaks.

Submitted Thursday, October 8, 2009 - 1:48pm [Dine in]

There aren't many choices on the North Shore for Pho so tried this restaurant. It was anther Pho restaurant before so I assume it's new owners as it has a new name. Lots of Pho choices plus, sandwiches, rice dishes and rolls to choose from. Prices are reasonable and in line with other Pho restaurants. Just tried the Pho with mixed meats. It all comes down to the soup and this was only average here. Doesn't have the depth of flavour or the excact colour, a bit on the grey versus brown side. Meats were good as well as the noodles. Quick and fast service. Overall an OK choice for Pho but not too many alternatives in N. Van.

Went later on a weeknight and reservations are recommended but not necessary. There are seats along the bar if desired. Started with the escargots - very good and tender and onion soup - very tasty with a good layer of cheese. Tried a salad with goat cheese and was very nice. Had the lamb shank for the main and it was very tender and the sauce paired well with the lamb. Tried a bite of the chocolate cake, and it was more of a dense mousse than a flour type of cake, very good. Service was great and nice atmosphere. A good value for the portions and quality of the food.

Delivers what you expect
Submitted Monday, October 5, 2009 - 9:55am [Dine in]

Haven't been to this location before but the decor and layout is very nice. Had to wait on a Sat but there is a large bar/lounge area where you can have a drink. After a 15 min wait, shown to a nice table. Tried their Keg Prime Rib Classic. Came medium rare as promised and very good and goes nice with the horseradish. Rice Pilaf side and veggies were very good. Nice portion and great service. Delivers what you expect. Overall a good value.

Tasting menu
Submitted Monday, September 28, 2009 - 10:43am [Dine in]

Made reservations, recommended, on a weekend and tried their $40 tasting menu. The restaurant is located on 4th, almost at Alma. The tasting menu is actually a family type of service where you get large plates meant to share. Started off with some salami and chicken livers on bread - very good. Then a salad made with bread and tomato - nice, grilled sardines - not my fa, thumb print pasta with some greens - very good, gnocchi - very soft and went well with the mushrooms, hangar steak with some salad on top- really tender and tasty and cooked just right. Finished off with some chocolate mousse type of desert and a soft lemon type of dessert. Very good overall and service was great. Small place so it's quite close quarters but very nice.

OK late snack/dinner place
Submitted Friday, September 25, 2009 - 10:50am [Dine in]

Visited during the week at 9pm and able to order off the late night menu. 2 pages and some good choices. Had fried rice - bit on the wet side, shanghai noodle-good for a catonese restaurant, fried pork intestines - good, clams - small but tasty, honey spareribs - good and some greens. Overall, service was a bit spotty and nothing really about the ambiance. Would go again for a quick bite. Value was just ok as the dishes were a bit on the small side.

Pizza and Tacos
Submitted Wednesday, September 23, 2009 - 9:47am [Dine in]

Went on a Tuesday and they have a pulled pork taco for 2 each. It's more like pull pork in a flour tortilla (small burritto) versus corn tortillas. Good flavours in the pork with some shredded carrots and other veggies. Nice big portions. Tried the pizza and it came with thick slices of ham (I thought the menu said back bacon) which seemed like the ham you buy whole (boneless) at safeway in the deli dept. Overall, pretty good with ample sauce. Good service but place is a bit small.

Lunch visit
Submitted Wednesday, September 16, 2009 - 2:06pm [Dine in]

Visited during the week and they have approx. a dozen lunch specials plus some salad and appies. First time I tried the stir fried flat rice noodles. Char Kuoy Teow. Very good, a bit on the spicy side but I guess that's authentic. Lots of seafood but the portion could be just a bit bigger. Very nice flavour. On the second visit, tried the Laksa (coconut version) which had a good level of spice (medium) and lots of tofu, prawns, sprouts... Service was fast and efficient for lunch. Value is pretty good at approx. $7-$8 per item. Nice small restaurant.

Sat night visit
Submitted Monday, September 14, 2009 - 9:51am [Dine in]

Reservations were made on a Sat night and accomodated, table was ready. Ordered several items including the satays - nice and moist but can't tell the difference with some meats just like in asia, roti canai - nice a fluffy, noodles - nice and spicy, king prawns - a bit over cooked, beans okra eggplant in sambal sauce - very good best dish, beef rendang - beef seems a bit too lean and a bit tough. Service was good except when we had only 5 people. 1 more can later and had only a drink. They gave us the bill with a hand written correction to add the mandatory tip. I think that wasn't necessary and a bit tacky. Nice place.
