Great Thai Place
Submitted Tuesday, March 4, 2008 - 3:38pm [Dine in]

A great Thai place for authentic thai food. Only been there for lunch but have tried all of the curries, pad thai and pad siew. I think the best curries I have tried. Great prices for lunch. Small place which gets you in and out very quickly.

Nothing Special
Submitted Friday, February 29, 2008 - 1:52pm [Dine in]

Stopped by for a late dinner on a weekday. Not too busy with just 4 people but our large group of 10 made the place look smaller. Had the tuna and salmon sushi. Average tuna but I like that they serve wild salmon. Tempura was good as well as the gyoza. Rolls were average but they do have some signature rolls that I didn't try but friends say they were very good. Overall a half decent place run by non-Japanese people.

DOV
Submitted Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 9:43am [Dine in]

Went on a weeknight for their DOV and the place was not as busy (50% full). Beet salad was very good and tried the other appie, soup which was nice. Salmon was fine and good sides. Lamb was a bit dry but nice flavours. Dessert was pretty standard. Overall I don't think for value it's a $35 DOV. Should be in the $25 range.

Good sushi from a Japanese chef
Submitted Friday, January 25, 2008 - 10:44am [Dine in]

I compare Seto in Richmond to Toshi and Shiro in Vancouver. A very good authentic Japanese restaurant. They have special sushi/sashimi posted when they get fresh fish in so you know it's good. Had the tuna, salmon, oysters, some rolls, all very good. Only down side is that they used farm salmon. Cooked items like the noodles and pancakes were very tasty. Good overall food.

Do all things OK, nothing great
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2008 - 12:51pm [Dine in]

Went to this HK Cafe. I really don't like HK cafe as I'm not into this Western food thing with a chinese touch. The mix and match for lunch seems like a really good deal as you get a drink with that but I was not too impressed with the food. Pork chop was really thin, lamb shank was cold. I guess HK Cafe's are known for their deals and variety but they can't seem to do one style really good. Just not my thing, I rather go to Richmond Public Market.

Good Chinese
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2008 - 11:58am [Dine in]

Went there for a group dinner and ordered off the menu versus the set 10 person meals (menu only in Chinese). Had the steamed northern chinese dumplings - very good with lots of soup inside, peking duck 3 courses - good value with skin sliced with no fat, crab and lobster - good in the ginger and green onion, ginger beef - ok not my favourite, special spare ribs - ok tasted like the ginger beef, fried rice - bad not much taste, mu shiu tofu - not very spicy, green beans - standard northern chinese style good. Overall not too bad with the waiter/manager assistance in ordering.

Good drinks, poor food
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2008 - 10:35am [Dine in]

Went there for a bite to eat before a Canucks game. Close by so a good location. Seating was quick at the bar, also quick service and ordering. Beer was very good but the food was another matter. Had the BBQ beef ribs. Good size ribs but why do they have to smother it with BBQ sauce. It just ruins the taste. Too much vinegar in the sauce. Sides were OK but overall very bad. Service was very good as they got you in and out very quickly.

Set Dinner
Submitted Thursday, December 27, 2007 - 1:31pm [Dine in]

Went for a set dinner. Good cold plate, OK sharkfin soup, OK stir fry, good prawns, good chicken, good abalone, bad rice noodle and dessert. I think you can tell good food by the last few dishes. Seemed like it was an afterthought. Not too busy on a weeknight.
Overall, just OK.

Good but expecting better
Submitted Monday, December 17, 2007 - 5:22pm [Dine in]

Ordered many a pizzas from there and always very good. First time dining there on the weekend and a bit of a let down. Ordered the lamb and the portion was quite large but underseasoned. Maybe I should of asked for some Tzazaki dip but I shouldn't of needed it. Pasta was ordered at our table and it looked OK. Maybe just stick with the pizzas.

The seating is really uncomfortable as it us more like bench seating, pretty up right with little leg and elbow room. Stick with delivery.

Great Ah-tuna
Submitted Friday, December 14, 2007 - 3:49pm [Dine in]

Went there on a busy weeknight which surprised me. Must be due to the X-mas shoppers. Appies tried included calamari, ribs and yam fries. All very good. Had the Ahi Tuna entree. Done perfectly and the rice pilaf was also very good with pine nuts, corn and cranberries in it. Good overall experience but the the prices in the mid $20's for entrees, this should be the norm.

OK Dim Sum
Submitted Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 3:52pm [Dine in]

Went there on a weekday for dim sum and limited choices to chose from. Most from a warming cart so not as fresh. Larger than average portions with some things they bring around (deep fried stuff). Quality is a bit below average. Tried some noodles and rice dishes and good value but just OK quality. Not too busy so can get a table during the weekday.

Had Better
Submitted Monday, December 3, 2007 - 3:49pm [Dine in]

Went there with a group for a Christmas party and they had a set menu. Two kinds of pasta, a tortolini in a cream sauce and a penne in a tomato sauce. Both average at best. The Ceasar Salad was really good (cold and creamy). The mains were a salmon in some sort of cream/pesto sauce, average and a chicken with mushrooms. Way too salty. Service was decent but the food overall was a bit below average.

Great lunch experience
Submitted Thursday, November 15, 2007 - 4:25pm [Dine in]

A party of 6 went to IK for a group lunch. Made reservations so no need to wait and this is recommended. Great lunch specials, lassagna, lamb shanks, pizza etc. Had the lassagna and tasted the lamb shanks, both very good. Service was very attentive and speedy. The only negative was the seating, a bit too cramped for any type of intimate dinners but OK for lunch. Would go again during dinner to check it out.

Good lunctime location
Submitted Friday, November 9, 2007 - 2:02pm [Dine in]

Always like going there for lunch. Great bento box selections at great prices. For $8.95 you get chicken with rice, cali rolls, 3 pieces of sashmi, 2 sushi, tempura and a daily special. A really good deal. Sushi is always fresh and they use wild salmon. Sitting at the sushi bar is the best location as you get the natural light in from outside and the TV is always on. The back is a bit too dark and needs an updated look. Quick service for the lunch time rush.

A bit above the other ones
Submitted Friday, October 19, 2007 - 3:28pm [Dine in]

Hachi is probably the best Japanese restaurant on Upper Lonsdale. I'm sure there are at least a dozen restaurants on a 6 block radius and Hachi is consisently the best. A bit higher price but you can see that in the food and decor. I don't know if the owners/chefs are Japanese but they put that extra touch in their food. Went for lunch and had one of their three bento boxes. Prices range from $8-$13 for the boxes. Love their Yam rolls as they put mushroom in the middle and the yam on the outside.

Good but wouldn't wait
Submitted Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 1:52pm [Dine in]

Went there on a weekday for lunch and got there at 11:30am. Good thing as line up started up around noon. Standard dim sum place, nothing fancy, sort of like Richmond 10 years ago. Suggest you pick the food being carried out to your table versus the ones sitting on the carts as they are much fresher. They put the leftover ones after they carry to the carts. Good price for what you get but wouldn't wait for more than 15 min.

Good dim sum
Submitted Monday, October 15, 2007 - 9:40am [Dine in]

Good dim sum with good quality and freshly made dishes. Congee is a bit bland as expected a bit more from this slightly up scale restaurant. Busy during weekend lunch which is a good sign. A bit on the pricey side for the basic food items but with no competition nearby, they can get away with it.

Need a reservation
Submitted Monday, October 15, 2007 - 9:38am [Dine in]

Went there on a friday and they were turning people away at 7pm if they didn't have a reservation. A small restaurant but OK in terms of space for diners. Good value for $18 all you can eat and food comes quickly. Lots of choices so you can try things you would not have thought of before.

Average Shanghai Restaurant
Submitted Thursday, September 20, 2007 - 2:47pm [Dine in]

Visited during lunch during the week and only a handful of tables. Had the wonton soap - so so, average; steamed pork buns - bigger than most places but pretty good; crispy noodles - ok but a bit too much sauce; and the meatballs - OK and big in size. Overall the portions are quite large and a good deal for lunch. Quality is about average with the new shanghai restaurants opened now in Richmond, this is not at the top. I would say a good family style restaurant.

Limited lunch boxes
Submitted Thursday, September 13, 2007 - 4:28pm [Dine in]

First time for lunch and even though the lunch menu was 4-5 pages long, I found their bento boxes lacking in variety. It seemed all of the choices like chicken or beef came with a california roll. There was no combos with other rolls, sushi, or sashimi. Quality is average and the box prices are reasonable.

Just another typical sushi joint, nothing special.
