Taste Of Punjab, A10009 136A Street, Surrey
Neat Indian food
Submitted Monday, September 13, 2010 - 11:07am [Dine in]

I've been there several times, eat in and take out. Taste of Punjab offers solid Indian food with great taste. The butter chicken is always a welcome but for those who doesn't know what Indian food to begin with, I recommend the special platter which serves up 6-7 different kinds of Indian cuisine (including Indian desserts) in smaller portions so you are able to taste a variety in a sitting. Rice is also included.

Service is also solid - the usual normal wait and if you just want to take out, I recommend calling ahead. Value is consistent with the food served. A regular set meal with Nan bread with set you back 10-12 dollars for dinner. The special platter mentioned above will set you back roughly 15-17 but it serves at least two. Lighting in the restaurant is acceptable.

Overall a good and descent Chinese restaurant
Submitted Wednesday, January 6, 2010 - 12:47am [Dine in]

This place has been here ever since I could remember. Being that it is a Chinese restaurant located in Surrey, I hesitated about going at first but to my surprise, the food is quite descent. Depending on the food you order, it may at times be a bit oily for certain people's taste. I wouldn't recommend going on a daily basis but once in a while would be a treat.

The service is quite quick. I never have to wait more than 5-6 minutes max for a table (during peak dinner hours). They don't open for lunch. Speed of food is normal. The value of the food ties in with the portion of the food and it does serve large portion. Average per dinner item runs 9-13 dollars depending on what you order. Two dish would typically three people and so on. That's why I ranked it the highest.

The surroundings looks a bit dim and old school. I believe they have not renovated the interior ever since they opened.

Ok HK style food.
Submitted Sunday, December 13, 2009 - 3:29am [Dine in]

I have been to this place numerous time, partly because there are not much HK style restaurant in the area that has such a wide variety of HK style dishes. Lunch set with a drink will set you back between 6 to 9 dollars. (If you want to add a bowl of soup and bun, that's an extra $2).

Food is decent for a quick lunch or hangout with friends. However service levels are inconsistent. Politeness aside, food orders have at times been totally missed resulting in long wait time and when the restaurant realized their mistake, they would quietly "re-enter" the order into their computer instead of apologizing for their oversight. There were many occasions I had to check with the servers for the lateness of my food.

Value is acceptable though I highly recommend the lunch menu over the dinner menu as the dinner menu tends to be a little bit overpriced.

The interior has a stylish European design, although the restroom can be deplorable at times. Servers have at times also been observed to shout or talk very loudly while on the dining floor with many customers staring at the commotion.

Malaysian Hut Restaurant14727 108 Avenue, #108, Surrey
Authentic Malaysian food
Submitted Sunday, December 13, 2009 - 3:11am [Dine in]

A small quaint Malaysian Restaurant. The food has an authentic Malaysian style which is hard to find around the Surrey area. I especially love the Double Lo-Mein Special. Good portion with wonton, some vegetables and special chili/vinegar sauce.

Service is friendly and the hostess make an effort to get to know you if you visit regularly. The value is reasonable although some item's portion may be a little small for 7-8 dollars with the exception of the above mentioned Lo-Mein which is just the right size.

Recently repainted and redecorated to bright orange, it does bring out Malaysian/Bruneian taste. I recommend this place though be prepared as this place only accepts cash. (No credits or debits).

Great bakery!
Submitted Saturday, December 12, 2009 - 1:12pm [Dine in]

I thought I'd had to go to Richmond or Vancouver for such quality in bakery. But here they are. I love their Egg custard and coconut tarts as well as their wide selections of buns. The sizes of their products are as big as other places and the price is a little more but it's all worth it. Nice and friendly service and best of all they accept debit cards (with a fee if you buy less than $5.00). Definitely recommend to everyone.

Good Bubble tea/Food
Submitted Saturday, December 12, 2009 - 1:01pm [Dine in]

Some days this place is as busy as it can be with take out and eat in traffic, surprisingly I have not ever had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table. Good bubble tea with wide selections of flavor. A variety of Taiwanese food, from small appetizers to set meals. Speed of service is normal - as expected. And value is reasonable - with a set meal that will set you back 6-8 dollars and Bubble tea ranging from 2-5 dollars depending on what you order.
The only caveat is I would not recommend to anyone who wishes a quiet dining experience as this restaurant may get a little noisy with music and (when packed), everyone speaking at the same time.

Overall Mediocre
Submitted Saturday, December 12, 2009 - 12:48pm [Dine in]

My first time back in several years. The interior has been newly renovated to reflect more stylish way to eat. We ordered 3 dishes. Chinese Gai Lan - not too bad. Sweet and Sour pork which was mediocre. Finally, lemon garlic Chicken but was served lemon garlic Pork. We had it exchanged of course. Portion was small compared to other Chinese restaurant in Surrey but the price is not any smaller. Service speed was normal - as expected.
The only part of this restaurant I like is the cleanliness and its newly renovated interior both in the restroom as well as the main eating area.
