Galini Greek Kouzina & Grill19475 Fraser Hwy, #101, Surrey
great ribs at Galini
Submitted Sunday, February 22, 2009 - 10:43pm [Dine in]

Went there tonight with my husband. Loved the Greek music they played and the decor and layout of the restaurant. Service was nice and fast. The martinis are great, we tried a few different ones and loved them. We had dry ribs for appetizers and to our surprise, they were not dry and crunchy as we expected at all; however when we actually tried the dish, oh my God! the subtle garlic flavor and spices made it perfect. the meat was very tender and juicy, it was falling off the bones.Best ribs I ever had! The chicken and lamb that followed as entrees were ordinary, so we might just go back and have 2 orders of "dry" ribs each(again, the portions are appetizer size). Having finished only half of my entree, I tried their version of chocolate lava cake which was delicious. Thus, overall we were satisfied with our visit to Galini. We'll be back whenever we find ourselves in the Surrey area. (wish they had a downtown location as well)

Laguna Blu810 Quayside Drive, #200, New Westminster
best dinner and dance

Me and my husband went there for Valentine's. We chose different things from the special menu that we shared: we had salad and prawns to start which were great with the italian style bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil and for entree we tried delicious chicken breast with prosciutto and the seafood risotto. The flavors were exquisite; I especially loved the touch of basil with the chicken and the crispy prosciutto that was holding everything together. The risotto was great as well, the seafood was fresh and tasty. The entrees took a while to come, however the band kept us on our feet most of the time. We loved the variety of songs the band played, some soft romantic songs, other hot latino and even some Cher and Abba. The service was decent, waiters very friendly. We will definitely go back there soon for more great food and for the great music they play.

Marcello Pizzeria1404 Commercial, Vancouver
best pizza
Submitted Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - 7:14pm [Dine in]

Marcello Pizzeria has the best pizza I have ever tasted. I have never tried anything else from the menu except for salads which were also very good. I have to say the ingredients are fresh and tasty and pizza is perfectly cooked in that traditional huge oven they have. The sizes are good and the thin crispy pizza makes you feel like you had just enough to eat and maybe some room for desert. The only thing that bothered me was that the service was quite slow and from what I've noticed some waitresses were very unprofessional (one of them swept the floor after a big party left and placed the dust pan right on the table! disgusting). Anyways, I love the food so I'll definitely go there again.

Balkan House7530 Edmonds Street, Burnaby
not the greatest place for eastern european food
Submitted Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - 6:55pm [Dine in]

I went to Balkan House on a Wednesday or Thursday a while ago, with my bf and a friend of ours. The restaurant was completely empty, even so, the waitress took such a long time to come and take our drinks and food order, unbelievable!! The food was ready pretty fast. The dishes were pretty big, however the food barely had any flavor: absolutely nothing special whatsoever; the pork that I ordered was dry and the others were not happy with their food either. The restaurant looks like it came from the communist era; if that was the owner's intention then I give him a 5 star rating for that.

Transylvania Flavour2120 West Broadway, Vancouver
excellent romanian food
Submitted Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - 6:43pm [Dine in]

The food is amazing: best tripe soup, borsh, very good Transylvanian sausages and cabbage rolls. If you're open minded and not afraid to try different things, I strongly recommend this place; however they have some western dishes as well. Everything is reasonably priced; the wines are a bit expensive, but I guess it's not cheap to import them from Romania either. I particularly love the decor which has some discrete Romanian pieces. The music is always soft and romantic; it would be nicer if the lights were dimmed a little more. Also, don't expect to enter Dracula's castle; this is a normal little romantic restaurant with great food. Me and my husband go there every week especially for the tripe soup.
