I visited Enigma with some friends on several occasions. Food is not bad and there are some good choices on the menu. Decent location near the University and free parking is ample.
However, the atmosphere and the vibe is all over the place. A hockey/sports screen at the bar where people are cheering and talking out loud ... a big distraction to those who want to just dine without feeling like they're in a pub. Is it a pub, or is it a restaurant for dining? How can you expect anyone to be able to focus and pay attention to the live music? Having some nice jazz music over dinner would bring some class back to the place ... and then we may return.

I visited Rose Thai on a number of occasions in the past two years, and I have enjoyed my visits there (everytime)! Let’s face it. All restaurants have their good days and bad, but overall, the owner of the restaurant really cares about the business and its patrons. The restaurant is celebrating their third anniversary this year. The owner has created a very nice décor for the restaurant … a warm, elegant and romantic restaurant. In my many years of dining out at Thai restaurants, the prices at Rose Thai are reasonable, lots of selection on the menu, and a very good wine bar. The food is prepared by a chef who has had over 20 years of Thai food preparation experience. The restaurant is also quite clean & tidy. They also have a nice patio outside … nice to sit out there when it’s not raining. It’s a nice place to hang out in West Van and it’s close by Ambleside, which is a short walk to the beach, the Art Gallery, Silk Purse and the Harmony Arts Festival. Not bad at all for a taste of Thai food, with a nice décor and live music too!
