Consistently Excellent Food
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 5:08pm [Dine in]

The food, service, value, and ambiance are all consistently excellent every time I come here. It's usually busy on the weekend and they unfortunately don't take reservations. The wait is always worth it and I'm never disappointed. I especially enjoy their assortment of curries and the sweat and sour trout. For dessert, the deep fried banana with ice cream is a nice close to a great meal.

The Best Udon Period.
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 5:00pm [Dine in]

This place has the best udon noodles I've ever tasted. The care and love for noodle making is very apparent when you see the friendly owner preparing your noodle dish behind the counter. I was interested in trying Konpira after reading a news article about the owner's traditional noodle making techniques. If you enjoy udon, you should try this place out.

Not worth it!
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 4:52pm [Dine in]

Agree with the reviewer below...just not worth it to eat here anymore. Came here for lunch three weeks ago and spent $35 for two people. The pasta we had was subpar tasting and lukewarm. We also ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich that was heavily battered and way too heavy. The fries that came with it were also lukewarm. Not worth the price. Better off going downtown or stopping off at Wendy's for a quick bite.

Good...but not Great
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 2:49pm [Dine in]

The title says it all. The food here was okay, nicely garnished, sauces that were well prepared and ingredients that were fresh. The draw for me isn't there with this place. You're paying mostly for the view because the food you get here you can easily get better at places like Matisse and Brassiere L'Ecole in downtown Victoria. I'd save the drive and simply stay in town.

Have your fill of Carbs
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 2:45pm [Dine in]

Not a bad restaurant by any means. The food is decent, the service quite good and the setting pleasant. Nothing that knocks me off my feet however. Just like many other Greek restaurants, this place allows you to get your fill of carbs and that's about it. The meat portion of my chicken souvalaki was rather small, but I got lots of rice and potatoes!

Nothing Special
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 2:41pm [Dine in]

Nothing special deserving of too much praise. The cinnamon buns were okay, baked fresh and tasty. A bit too much sugar though for my liking. The coffee I had with the bun was just okay as well, tasted a bit stale, but not a big deal. Overall, decent place if you're looking for a quick snack on the go.

$3 cupcakes...really? - YES!
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 2:15pm [Dine in]

Never thought I would say that a $3 cupcake is good value. Well, here goes...the cupcakes at Ooh La La are worth every single penny. They melt in your mouth and each piece is literally like a little bite of heaven. The ingredients are fresh, and the cream to die for. $3 for a cupcake, I still can't believe I'm saying its worth it...but it so is!

Fresh Sushi To Go
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 2:10pm [Dine in]

Fresh sushi to go - what a concept! This place is always busy and there's a good reason why. The food is always fresh and consistently turned over with each customer walking through their doors. The value and selection is unbelievable for the times when you feel like Japanese food but don't want to go out to eat. It's quick, easy and delicious! One of my favourite spots when I don't feel like cooking.

Great Addition to Fernwood
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 1:52pm [Dine in]

Stage is a hip, happening little restaurant that keeps me coming back for more. The tapas here are delicious, creative and fresh. The servers are attractive, attentive and knowledgeable. The ambiance is romantic, stylish and upscale. What else can yo ask for when going out for drinks and good food on a Friday or Saturday evening?

Excellent Beijing Duck
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 1:39pm [Dine in]

If you're looking for authentic Beijing duck, go to Beijing. The version they serve at Sampan is Hong Kong style with roasted duck skin in a soft flour wrap with hoisin sauce and scallions. This is followed by a second course of duck lettuce wraps. Overall, Sampan has the best Beijing-style duck in Victoria. Highly recommend you try this at least once. It's a great experience and excellent conversation piece. The other menu items served here are also top notch. I'd rate Sampan as one of the best Chinese restaurants on the island.

Excellent Hot Pot & Buffet (Blanshard Location)
Submitted Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 1:27pm [Dine in]

Had dinner here last weekend at their Cloverdale and Blanshard (by Futureshop) location and really enjoyed their hot pot. Other members of my group had the buffet and that also was very good. They have a wide variety of selection and the food is fresh, not too greasy, and tastes excellent. Good value here with prices that are reasonable for the times when you just want to eat a lot for not much money!
