Baru Latino Restaurante2535 Alma Street, Vancouver
Watered down latin
Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 1:27pm [Dine in]

This restaurant was a huge dissapointment. I'm new to the Vancouver area and desperately seeking authentic latin food. Baru seemed promising but failed. I was was very surprised to hear one of the owners is in fact hispanic.

The food was overall bland. They took the cheap and easy way out on so many dishes. Coconut rice should never have sweet bakers coconut flakes in it! keep it on the cakes! The sangria was a joke. The one dish that was good was the empanadas. Those get the thumbs up well, for the most part.

Like a lot of ethnic restaurants this is a restaurant that tailored the food to make it understandable for the locals so it's taste was more north american then latin. If you want authentic flavors that you find in spain, south america or the islands this is not the place.

Olive Garden20080 Langley Bypass, Langley
Pretty much the olive garden norm

I've been to the Olive Garden on several occassions in Vancouver, New York and Florida. The chains are pretty consistent everywhere you go. The langley restaurant is about the same as all. Good food all be it over priced, clean and lovely "tuscan" decor and always crowded.

Melange Restaurant19955 Fraser Highway, Langley
Diamond in the rough

Being new to Langley from a major city one of the things I miss (w/out having to travel into Vancouver) is truly unique and quality cuisine. Melange is really excellent, unique food. My husband and I have gone on 3 occassions and never disappointed. My repeated compliments to the chef! (I am still trying to duplicate the amaretto sauce at home!)

On a different note, they claim tapas but being a fan of tapas restaurants I would never think of Malange as a tapas restaurant. Calling an appetizer a tapa doesnt count!

And dear god please get an interior designer in there quick! It's not the 80's. It's way too dark and it does not set a mood. the rounded velvet chairs are dated and extremly unfomfortable. the decor style is inconsistent. And, the Christmas tree w/lights on the balcony above the door......um, wow. Just, wow.

The restaurant isnt pretty but the food more then makes up for it. The serveice, always stellar.
