Pho Hoang Vietnamese Restaurant3388 Main Street, Vancouver

Well, there's no more Pho Hoang. I really miss it! They made the best Bun Bo Hue in Metro Vancouver and they always had the best portions for your pho and very delicious soup! I always feel full after eating there! Now this new restaurant is overpriced for Vietnamese food, their portions are small, and the quality is average. The only thing they have going for them are the restaurant decor and their fantastic service! Hopefully, they can survive with that!

I tried this restaurant because I was in the area yesterday. It was the same as any other Vietnamese restaurants such as same portions and their soup were average. The only thing I didn't understand is why they charge $1 for extra bean sprouts when other Vietnamese restaurants do not? Other than that, nothing special.

Overpriced pho
Submitted Monday, April 3, 2017 - 9:26am [Dine in]

I heard some great reviews from a friend, so I decided to try it. But when I looked at their menu, their Pho's were completely overpriced for Vietnamese food! Maybe the locals in Kerrisdale would pay for this price, but people from other areas would flinch. Who would pay for a large Pho which is $2 more than a small Pho? Other Vietnamese restaurants would charge $0.5 to $1, but I have never seen $2 more for a large! When I received my large Pho expecting to be something special, all I find are the portions are the same as a small which I saw someone eating on the next table and just more SOUP! And the flavours of their pho soup are just borderline average. I can eat at any other Pho restaurants for far less a price and eat the same type of Pho. Just so you know a small is $9 and large $11. So disappointing!

Pho Lan Vietnamese Restaurant6950 No. 3 Road, Richmond
Price hike and small portions

I have been coming here for over 10 years. The pho I find has always been average, but at least it's better than most Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond. Their spring rolls are the best. But recently I have found that they keep raising their prices, but their pho portions have been getting smaller and smaller. I can understand raising prices because of inflation and cost of ingredients, but you shouldn't have to reduce the portion of your food items. I find the pho bowls have been getting smaller each time they raise their price. The portions in the pho bowls have been getting smaller too. Their pho now are $7 small, $8 medium, $9 large. It's pretty expensive even for a pho place. I remember when pho used to be $6 small, $6.50 medium, $7 Large. What happened? And even if the bowl is the right size, it's mainly broth with little pho and meat. I don't think I will be coming unless I want some spring rolls.

I was in the neighbourhood and I read about the reviews before and I saw a sign saying "the original owners are back". So I decided to try it out. I usually order what I order which is the Bun Bo Hue. The owner was very friendly. Right when I walked in, they asked how you are and seated you down. I walked in around 9pm and there were still a table of 6 and 5 minutes later more customers walked in. So it's a pretty well known local dining place. A lot of their local regulars dine here. My order came within 10 minutes. I ordered a small and it has a very good portion for a small. There's a lot of meat and noodles. The broth was tasty and not too much msg. It's a good price at $7. If I'm in the neighbourhood again, I'll try other items on their menu.

One of my favourites

I have read the recent reviews and my friend's recommendation and I decided to try this place. I order the Bun Bo Hue which is what I always order at Pho places. This is the standard noodle soup in how I grade all the pho places I visit. I looked at their menu and they have only one size which is reasonable and the price was descent. When th pho came out within 10 minutes, it was steaming hot which is how I like it. Wow the bowl was full of meat and noodles. The broth was really tasty even after putting in the bean sprouts and basil. I was really full after finishing the pho too. Good value for a great pho! I'm definitely coming back!

Great service, but small portion size

I have read the reviews here and they attracted me to try their pho. Even my friend suggested this place. So I get the chance one day and tried their pho. I ordered a large pho. It came out within 10 minutes and it was steaming hot which is how I like it. When I looked at the bowl and it was a large bowl, it was consist mostly of soup. I used my chopstick to scoop the noodles and meat, it looked like the portion size of a small bowl. The broth was good and tasty, but the portion was small even when I put in the bean sprouts. I didn't feel full when I finished the pho. I'm sure the small size is just the same portion, but less broth. Maybe next time I should just order the small size.

Excellent Viet Subs
Submitted Thursday, August 8, 2013 - 6:19pm [Dine in]

I have always eaten their subs and they were excellent! One time, I wanted to try their pho and it was pretty average and not too savery, but at least there was little or no msg. Now I just stick with their subs, their spring rolls, and their rice dishes.
