What happened here?
Submitted Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 9:55am [Dine in]

A group of 8 dined at this lovely place at Vandussen gardens last night. We have been coming here for a little Christmas get together for many years. After last night, I will never eat there again. The calamari appetizer was greasy, tough and horrible. I have had better in a biker bar. My main course was seafood canelloni....scary. Tasted like cheap canned salmon, tinned soup and old soggy pasta. It came with a salad of lettuce and hard huge tomatoes. For these prices I expect way more. Is there no quality control?? The only thing I enjoyed for my $48 was a nice glass of wine.I hope it was just a bad night as it is one of the prettiest spots to eat in Vancouver.

Great spot for lunch
Submitted Wednesday, November 25, 2009 - 2:17pm [Dine in]

My friend treated me to lunch here yesterday. We sat on the covered patio so enjoyed the fresh air and stayed warm with the provided blankets and the big patio heaters. It was your typical wet, cool, dark November day, but the view and the rustic charm of the restaurant perked us up. The food was a bonus. Lovely warm, flavourful clam chowder then wok squid, served with excellent rice. It was the best fried squid I had ever had, tender and flavourful. Portions were large so we had no room for dessert. The service was attentive and friendly. I am looking forward to going here again soon.

We arrived here for lunch on a weekend and the place was jumping. Lots of bikers, sports teams, pensioners and folks with coupons like us. We enjoyed the food and the free meat draw. It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There were a dozen beautiful motor cycles parked outside and lots of leather clad riders inside. The waitress was kept busy with big tables so service could have been better. I had the steak and kidney pie with fries it was fantastic. We would certainly come here again.

Great Easter Brunch
Submitted Monday, April 13, 2009 - 10:20am [Dine in]

We had Easter Brunch at Herons yesterday. Although expensive ($52 each) it was a special treat. We sat by a huge window and enjoyed the view of Canada Place and the new convention center. It was grey and raining outside but the restaurant was filled with light and was warm and inviting. The food was absolutely fantastic. Fresh raw oysters on the half shell, Alaska king crab legs, chili prawns, many varieties of smoked salmon were just a few of the cold entrees. In the hot category there was a selection of dim sum that equaled top end Chinese restaurants in Richmond. Other hot entrees included a delicious lamb tikka masala with fresh cumin papadams that were unbelievable. A Valhrona cholcolate fountain was a highlight of the dessert section. Service was attentive. To the delight of the children a giant Easter Bunny visited each table and handed out chocolate eggs. We both agreed that this was the best Sunday brunch that we had ever been to.

Make your own!
Submitted Sunday, October 19, 2008 - 8:51am [Dine in]

Why all the fuss? Why are people lining up for these very ordinary cream puffs that are too expensive for the little bit of sugar and fat that they provide? The only thing Beard Papa's is good at is marketing. Give your head a shake folks, find a recipe on the internet and make your own. There are many truely great bakeries in the lower mainland that could use your business if you are unable to take 30 minutes to make such a simple treat.

Fantastic

My gourmet friend brought me here to buy the best Italian bread buns in the lower mainland. She was right! The buns were fantastic. We grilled up some Italian sausages from Bossa's that night slapped them on the buns and had a fabulous meal.
While in the shop she bought us some Italian donuts (not sure what they are really called) to snack on. They were a treat, warm, fresh, fragrant and delicious.

What happened here?
Submitted Saturday, October 18, 2008 - 5:29pm [Dine in]

Milestone's has previously been one of my favourite spots for cocktails and lunch. All that changed today. I can see why the place was empty when we arrived. Our group of four had a late lunch and cocktails, we were all very disappointed. My expensive "tropical mimosa" cocktail was warm, my toasted chicken clubhouse was cold. The family was equally unimpressed with the cesear salad, breakfast burrito and the prime rib hash. The quality and quantity of the food seemed to be OK, it just never got to our table before it cooled off. The waiter was friendly but charm does not get you a good tip when the service is poor.

Why do you have to be like that?
Submitted Saturday, May 17, 2008 - 8:20am [Dine in]

The food is great, the setting fabulous, so why was our service so unpleasant? From the minute we arrived at Seasons everything seemed like it was too much trouble for our waiter. His goal seemed to be to get us out as fast as possible and to make sure we never came back. We had reservations for 12 to celebrate the retirement of 3 of our special colleagues. I was 1pm on a Friday, the restaurant was quiet. I know a big table of women can be a problem, but we were the only customers in the place. He was impatient taking our orders, and blatantly rude when we tried to pay our bills individually. Every question asked of him was answered sharply and often incorrectly. We were pleasant to him and tolerant of his bad mood.We acted in a professional manner he did not. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Get out!
Submitted Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 2:35pm [Dine in]

We walked by this packed restaurant in Aberdeen Mall and noticed that everyone eating inside looked happy, so we went in. After a 15 minute wait we had a great table for two and ordered our dim sum. The food was wonderful, fresh, hot, and very flavouful. The deep fried squid with chili was a favorite. Service was OK until we finished eating. then all of a sudden there were not too subtle messages for us to vacate the premisies. I understand that it was a busy Saturday morning with people waiting to be seated but come on. After dropping $40 for dim sum we felt entitled to at least finish our tea. Hate to play the race card but there were lots of Asian folks hanging out chatting, we wondered why we got the bums rush.

I went to Joeys in Coquitlam with a group of 20 at 12:30 on a Wednesday. They just do reservations Sunday to Tuesday so we wondered how they would handle our large group. We were pleasantly surprised. After a 15 minutes wait we were all seated and ordering drinks. The staff were attentive, pleasant and accommodating. The menu is hip with lots of of choices both healthy and indulgent. I enjoyed my passionfruit margarita, and the Aihi tuna salad. Everyone was happy with the food, the service, and the plush surroundings.

Bring your own cutlery
Submitted Saturday, April 26, 2008 - 7:51am [Dine in]

There were problems at the Fogg and Suds last night.
They were quick to take a drink order but that was it. My drink went back as it was too watery and tasteless to consume. No one seemed to care. The place was busy and there were lots of staff wandering around yet no one would make eye contact. After we finally flagged down a waitress to order, the food came quickly. She left, we had no cutlery. We managed to get another servers attention, she came back and said they were "out of knives". My husband went to the bar to borrow a knife for the three of us to share. When the server came to see how "everything was", I told her, then she was annoyed. Good-bye tip!
It is a comfortable, pleasant spot with OK food, but the prices seem high for such poor service.

We are done with this place
Submitted Thursday, April 24, 2008 - 8:06am [Dine in]

Richmond Sushi is fun. It is bright, busy, and the service is quick. We have been many many times, but Sunday night put us off for good. The food was worse than usual. The sushi must have been made the previous day , it was waxy and tasteless. The miso looked and tasted like brown water. Of course the place was packed, filled with young adults stuffing themselves and chatting with their friends. The food is edible if you soak eveything in soy and wasabi.

This little place is close to home so we go often and love it. The fish is extremely fresh and tasty, all of their sushi is delicious. The service is quick and take out always great. On special occassions we treat ourselves to the more expensive sushi and sashimi, it is the best I have had aywhere in the Lower Mainland. The dynamite and futomaki rolls are favorites. Closed Sundays which is a drag.

Pathetic
Submitted Saturday, April 12, 2008 - 7:58pm [Dine in]

This place sucks. We were very disappointed in the flavour, quality and presentation of the food. My husband's meal was forgotten, and came only when we flagged down the server twice to ask where it was. The service was pretty bad, they were quick with the drinks but not much else. I guess this is a place to drink not eat.

We had lunch here on April 11, 2008 and really enjoyed it.
I had a seafood hotpot, my husband a rice dish, both were tasty and reasonable @ $7 each. The service was good, the place was clean, a great spot for a hot meal on a chilly day

Cute place, creepy salad
Submitted Saturday, March 8, 2008 - 9:38am [Dine in]

We had dinner at Minoas for the first time last night. It is in a funky old house, the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Service was fantastic. The food is just so-so. The greek salad served with all dinners suffers from old produce and a lukewarm temperature. We passed by a row of plated salads on a table when we arrived, I guess they sit out so the servers can grab them quickly. We both had deep fried calamari, it was tender and the portions were generous.

I went to Aqua Riva with a group of friends for dinner. We were all very dissapointed in the food quality and the sloppy service. I tried the "Indian Candy Pizza", and was not able to eat it. Beware, they are charging top prices for bad food.
