Solid all around
Submitted Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 2:28pm [Dine in]

Decided to try this place out as I've driven by it many times and was curious. Seated promptly and decent selections on the menu. Pretty much the norm, green curry, pad thai etc... Server recommended their special fried rice which we tried. Solid all around with the ambience not bad. Its a big place and if its not full of customers you feel like you're sitting in a big bingo hall. Overall a decent place !

Remember Foody Goody ?
Submitted Sunday, October 29, 2006 - 10:52pm [Dine in]

Well if you remember Foody Goody then you know what Im talking about. Why is this place called Urban Buffet in the first place ? Try cheap no good buffet. If you're looking for an all you can eat place that serves terrible food then by all means go to this place. Two of our friends got sick later on in the evening after the four of us decided to try this place. Thumbs Down.

Best Shanghainese ?
Submitted Sunday, October 29, 2006 - 10:50pm [Dine in]

Not sure about the other reviews for this place but IMHO this is probably the best for Shanghainese as you can get ! Top notch for Siu Loong Bau and crazy busy on weekends for lunch. Prepare to wait if you're going for lunch or make a reservation. Food is excellent, service and ambience is decent !

Used to be better
Submitted Thursday, October 26, 2006 - 11:14am [Dine in]

Whatever happened to the Kamei sushis ? Seems like all the places in richmond nowadays is All You Can Eat ? This place used to be one of the best but is definately no longer. Food is decent and remeber you get what you pay for. Service needs huge improvement. Not fond of the interior design as it seems a little too open. The location would be better suited for a Korean BBQ place.

One of the BEST ?
Submitted Thursday, October 26, 2006 - 11:10am [Dine in]

I dont know what it is or why it is but I just love steaks. Im a frequent steakhouse diner and Hy's is definately one of if not the best steakhouses in the world. Ruths Chris, Mortons ? Hys is probably better. Perfect ambience in the dark castle like lit room. Dark wood pillars in a 1900's like antique furniture. These guys know how to make a rare Prime Rib ! Amazing Wine List to Boot. Average check for 4 for food only around $350.00.

If you;re looking for a great japanese tapas place this is it. Very comparable to Hapa however more on the casual side. Servers are friendly and the food is superb. Obviously the place itself could be bigger to accomodate diners more confortably but its an izakaya right ? Thumbs Up !

After a long wait we finally were seated. This place is packed friday nights and I can see why. Cool vibe throughout the place. Great looking waitresses and good service. Drinks on the pricey side but all in all its a good hangout to get together with friends for food and drinks.

For a busy restaurant the servers here must feel like they are better than you. After ordering more than $50 worth of dim sum between 3 people, our lunch was overpowered by the rudeness of our servers. We asked for iced tea and they gave us another pot of tea. LOL. When I told them we wanted Iced Tea he said I will give you Ice. LOL again. We gave up on the iced tea and wanted to pack our food since we ordered way too much. By ths time the polace wasnt busy and all they did was bring us 2 containers and a bag. We saw the server taking the plates of food from other tables and packing it for them, why would they not pack ours ? Definately not going back.

Bad service
Submitted Thursday, October 19, 2006 - 8:36pm [Dine in]

Well after discussing where to go for after dinner drinks we decided to try Biminis. Unlike their other bar Republic, this place is not as pretentious but doesn;t offer the service. Bartenders are kind of arrogant and are very slow to take your drink order. Drinks seem a little watered down. Overrrated and would much rather be at republic than Biminis.

Yaletown Deals
Submitted Thursday, October 19, 2006 - 8:32pm [Dine in]

For Yaletown standards this place boasts reasonable prices. The decor is a little out of date but the food is pretty good. Mind you, if you;re looking for 5 star italian then head to Villa del Luppo but if you have an entertainment book you can get a pretty good deal here. Average dinner for 2 with drinks including discount around $150.00 including taxes and tips.

Great Place
Submitted Thursday, October 19, 2006 - 8:28pm [Dine in]

I actually made a review for Nikko in Delta but actually meant to do a review of this location. Its no wonder this place is always packed. Cheerful staff and fresh sushi. Daily specials are pretty good too. A little cramped but I guess it adds to the feel of the place. Probably one of the best salmon around in the city.

This place used to be hip and a great hangout during the weekdays for drinks. For some reason I find the staff quite snobby and arrogant. All around this place aint what it used to be like. Very dissapointing experience pre-Arts Club Theater. Should've went with the Keg which Im sure would've been more reliable. Thumbs Down.

Submitted Monday, October 16, 2006 - 3:06pm [Dine in]

Was there when it first opened and was amazed by the room. The room is great with high ceiling and a big screen tv in the middle of the bar. Great upstairs VIP area that can cater up to 10 people I think. Food needs big improvement and hope they start to learn how to cook a steak properly. It is a steakhouse right ? Perhaps its more of a Sports bar in my opinon.

Ever since this place has opened there have been some rave reviews of this place. Decided to check this place out over the weekend. Cool energetic crowd but I got an empty feeling in the room. Maybe its too open ? Food was terrible but the server was very good and friendly. Too bad. Thumbs Down for this new eatery.

The place is small and not very comfortable. More like a moms and pops kinda place but the food is great. Especially for the price. If you;re looking for a good hainanese chicken on rice, this is a good place for it.

One of the new hip resto lounges in Vancouver. I was told this was opened from the same group that owns Glowbal and Coast. Anyways, the decor and ambience is great but the food.... Uh... not very good in my opinion. Very daring and I assume the place is busy only becuase of the location and because its new. Neat and unique drinks. If you;re looking for a good meal, go to Coast instead. Same owners...

Submitted Monday, October 16, 2006 - 1:17pm [Dine in]

This place is definately overrated... Food, service and ambience are all great but if you were to compare both the Earls, Cactus Club and Joeys the biggest difference would be hostesses ? The only other Earls or Cactus that can compare with Joeys would be Earls Paramount and Cactus Club in Yaletown... ONe thing they have over the other 2 is their amazing Wine List... Great selections and some pretty cool dishes too. Ahi Tuna in a taco shell anyone ?
