More shrimp please
Submitted Friday, June 3, 2011 - 12:12am [Dine in]

Just had their seasonal "steak and shrimp". Had a caesar salad which had an overdose of dressing. However, the main course of steak and shrimp was solid. Steak was a bit overcooked but the taste was splendid. I had my steak with the coconut shrimp (the shrimp was battered up and deep-fried) which came with an awesome zesty dip. Unfortunately, the dessert was less exciting because it was some sort of pudding with fruit that had a powdery texture. Also, the server was very welcoming and often came over to refill our drinks!

Hotpot or Dimsum!!!
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 8:13pm [Dine in]

Why pick between hotpot or dimsum when you can have both! The dim sum here is anything but the ordinary. First of all, you get to pick your own tea (mind you the tea here is probably of higher quality than other dim sum places). Second of all, as I've mentioned above, the dimsum is different. There's a really good 豬潤燒賣 (literally liver shumai, only for those who do not mind liver, obviously) which most places do not have. Lastly, this place makes great congee and fried noodle/rice dishes! Try the geoduck congee if you don't mind the price!

The hotpot here is fresh and of high quality (Once again geoduck lovers, this place has really fresh geoduck!!). Soup base has a strong taste and the fresh meat and veges will leave you wanting more.

Warm Sushi
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 7:52pm [Dine in]

Absolutely terrible. There's nothing wrong with warm sushi since sushi is supposed to be warm when there's shrimp tempura or anything cooked in it. There's a problem, however, when the sushi is warm with raw salmon and tuna; that is what I had at Sushi Town. It tasted so bad. The proportions are pretty good but it's just too bad that I'm looking for taste and not proportion.

Mango Cubes or Papaya Cubes?
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 7:47pm [Dine in]

Quantity of mango and papaya cubes are what gets me excited. Quality is what makes this place amazing. There are a great variety of slushes and drinks to choose from and they can all be real fruit fresh!. Also, there are the special orange kit-kat and ferrero rocher bubble teas which combine the two great sweets of bubble tea and chocolate.

Enough about the drinks. The snacks at bubble queen are also quality. There's even Oreo-flavored version of the famous 雞蛋仔(please copy this to google if you dont read chinese to see this asian snack)!!!

Manzo Itamae Japanese Restaurant9020 Capstan Way, #120, Richmond
Quality served but service not apparent
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 7:29pm [Dine in]

Manzo is definately worth trying. I had the lobster sashimi, salmon belly sashimi, chopped scallop japanese pizza and their differnet sushi rolls. All the sashimi were fresh and well prepared. I suggest trying both teh lobster sashimi and salmon belly sashimi because the lobster sashimi is chewy and sweet. Salmon belly is the softest part of the salmon which is why it has a soft and smooth texture. The chopped scallop japanese pizza was also very delicious because the pizza crust was very soft and crunchy. Plus, it had my favourite chopped scallop on top of it. The sushi rolls are also very well made.

Has quality and affordability
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 7:17pm [Dine in]

The tea was pretty poor quality but one of the dishes made up for this problem. Their steamed pork cube rice aka 排骨飯 is steamed in a metal cup like the ones in Hong Kong! Its pork cubes are very juicy and the sweet soy sauce compliments the steamed rice very well.

Happy Date Bakery & Restaurant8135 Park Road, Richmond
Old school but still got it
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 6:54pm [Dine in]

Three words that sum up Happy Date. Fast, safe, and affordable.

The bakery is awesome. Nobody's egg tarts and pineapple buns are even close to capturing this old school hk-style taste. The egg tarts are sweet in the center and have a fluffy and layered crust like all good egg tart crusts. Not that butter crust trash that is also out there. The pineapple bun's crust is crunchy and the bun itself is soft. Eating it is just a pleasure. NOTE (ONLY EAT WHEN FRESH =D)

The restaurant itself is not very special. However, there is one dish that must be tried. Vegetables and beef with fried rice noodles (ask for both sides to be crunchy). Has baby bok choy with beef accompanied by a not too thick sauce that compliments the crunchy rice noodles.

Bauhinia Restaurant8360 Granville Avenue, #120, Richmond
Fast, appetising, and one of the best HK-styled restaurants in Richmond
Submitted Thursday, June 2, 2011 - 6:39pm [Dine in]

I will not talk about the service since HK-styled restaurants usually serve their customers efficiently but not well. There are several different dishes I've tried so far at this restaurant but two simple dishes that have stood out. Both of these dishes have been outstanding.

(蝦醬乾炒牛河) Shrimp paste with beef stir-fried rice noodles - A classic HK-style dish. Bauhinia managed to stir-fry this to perfection by making the rice noodles dry without overcooking the rice noodles (which happens too often in Richmond). This dish was flavourful thanks to the help of shrimp paste but not too salty (another problem that happens too often in Richmond).

(焗豬扒飯) Baked Pork Chop Rice - I expect that many will be thinking that anyone can make baked pork chop rice. That is true, but trying to make a great baked pork chop rice is not an easy task. The rice must be dry and not too soft while the pork chop must be juicy as well. Many HK-style restaurants have failed but this one has done it.

This restaurant is also very CLEAN and the drinks are just great!
