Not coming back for lunch
Submitted Wednesday, April 25, 2012 - 1:32pm [Dine in]

Administrative Professional week - treated by one of the "bosses", for us two ladies at work. Hoping that we'd get something decent to eat but were very disappointed.

I ordered Orange Beef Stirfry - too sweet, noodles were limpy (not even close to how a Chinese noodle dish should be), beef was tough - only thing decent about this dish was the veggies but even that they put too little in.

Co-workers had Salmon Shitake Rice Bowl and Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl. Even though the presentation of their dish wasn't all that, they said that it tasted good. However, the Salmon Shitake looked like it was drowning in brown sauce, which I'm guessing was made from oyster sauce.

We ordered a Legendary Burger to go for another co-worker but the waitress did not check what she had given to us and mistakenly given a Tuscan Chicken Wrap. Co-worker wasn't happy and threw it out.

One simple word - disappointed.

Rude Manager
Submitted Thursday, December 16, 2010 - 1:39pm [Dine in]

At this venue on Nov. 13th for a birthday gathering. Had a good time, up until the last 20 minutes.

I know that there's a 2-hour time limit at AYCE's, but one of the managers (the younger one) couldn't get us out of there fast enough.

We were told about by the manager our last call at 1-1/2 hours into seating time (which was fine), 5 minutes later were rudely told that we were overstuffing the pot (we were trying to cook the rest of the food that was on the table), 15 minutes left he just came over and turned off the burner instead of lowering the temperature (we asked another manager - older fellow - to turn it back on, which he kindly did), even though we still had food in the pot we were given our dessert and bill by that same younger manager.

I would've said the service was solid but for the fact that this manager (who supposedly is to set the tone for the rest of the staff) gave us a hard time, I have to say the service was mediocre.

Can't decide if I'd return.

Good food
Submitted Monday, August 9, 2010 - 2:25pm [Dine in]

Although my Szechuan Chicken Set Meal, with rice, soup, and 2 tiny side dishes ($7.25) was only okay, my kids' Chicken & Dual Mushroom Chow Mein with soup was very good ($8.50).

This is my BIL's favourite hangout. He orders the Baked Sole Fillet for his twins every time (they're very small for their age) and they finish the whole thing almost every time - and they hardly ever eat much. My kids want to try this dish the next time we come here.

Good prices - lots of food
Submitted Monday, August 9, 2010 - 2:19pm [Dine in]

For $16.95 my SIL and I shared the sole fillet, beef rib and half chicken (which is came w/spaghetti, soup & a drink) combo. Quite tasty. Next time we want to try the $12.95 Chinese Double Boiled Soup (I believe it's some kind of specialty, maybe a little medicinal, soup) which comes with a big dish of, say Sweet & Sour Pork, or something else, with a big dish of rice. I also ordered my kids a Kids Meal each for $7.99 - which they quite liked.

Downside...the food/drinks/dessert took a looong time coming and the air conditioning was on full blast that when we went home we all took some Cold FX!

But, we must be glutton for punishment because we liked the food enough (and price) that we'd go back.

Yummy Noodle Soups
Submitted Monday, August 9, 2010 - 2:10pm [Dine in]

Been here 3 times in the last month.

Love their Hot & Sour Noodle Soup - the right amount of thickness and spicy-ness for the broth, lots of veggies/seafood too. The beef spicy noodle soup is good too - good flavour, not too spicy and lots of beef, with just the right of amount of noodles. Both soups are $6.95 each - great deal.

My kids had the shrimp fried rice and the wonton noodle soups. The fried rice was a big dish (I believe it's $7.95 - correct me if I'm wrong) and the wonton (although small dumplings) were very good ($5.95).

I believe I'll be a regular.

Not very good at all
Submitted Monday, August 9, 2010 - 2:03pm [Dine in]

Came here (on July 30 '10) because of the previous ratings. Not coming back.

It seems to be family owned. Very nice people - checked up on us a few times.

Our order: yam fries, deluxe burger, open-faced chicken sandwich and dinner-sized fettuccini alfredo. Yam fries and french fries (with the burger and sandiwich) were only slightly warm, alfredo sauce had hardly any flavour (according to my kids), burger and sandwich - nothing to write home about. The order did take a while to be brought to our table (about 20 min.) and we were pretty much the only customers there - except for the take-out order (which was ordered after us and they got theirs first). All for $37 (including tips).

Disappointed.

Grey Tuna
Submitted Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - 10:59pm [Dine in]

I'm pretty much a regular here so on April 23rd my sis-in-law and I shared the tuna & salmon combo and my boys had a california roll each. Rolls were huge as usual and tasty. The salmon looked and tasted good. But, the tuna looked grey and tasted fishy (don't ask me why we ate it and, yes, we should've complained). Later that day I had an awful stomach-ache and the D word. I'm not going back for a looong time and, when I do, I won't be ordering tuna!

small Toro
Submitted Monday, June 29, 2009 - 9:40pm [Dine in]

Thought we'd try it out because of the good ratings. I know sushi shouldn't be enormous chunks of rice and fish, but we were disappointed at the very small slices of toro sashimi which were 8 pieces for $10.95. I understand why the miso soup was $0.50 per bowl...it was flavourless, had to add soy sauce, which I've never had to do. The sushi was okay but not something we'd want to go back there for.

Yummy Dumplings & Soup
Submitted Monday, June 29, 2009 - 9:34pm [Dine in]

So far it is our favourite spot for something Shanghai. We haven't had to make any reservations yet, but it does fill up fast after 12:00.

The juicy pork dumplings and hot & sour soup are very good. The Assorted Meat & Vegetables with Crispy Rice was okay. We also like the thick Shanghai noodles & Shanghai style rice cake dishes.

Next time we are going to try the Peking duck, 2 courses, for only $29.95. Usually unheard of at that price.

AYCE Wedding Luncheon
Submitted Sunday, March 8, 2009 - 6:20pm [Dine in]

First time there w/ the family this past Saturday for a wedding luncheon. Easy to find which was just right next to the Food Court at Tinseltown. The tabes were set for 8 people, with lounge armchairs for patrons.
The food was fairly good w/ sashimi, rolls, skewers, lemon chicken, hunan beef (pretty spicy...yum!). While it was a WEDDING luncheon, we didn't have to pay for tea, pop (the 7-up was flat...yuck!--asked for a Coke in exchange) or coffee, the alcoholic drinks were on the pricey side...for a Caesar $8 and a Sapporo beer $7.
We'll be coming back some time soon for lunch on the weekend to see how it is without the party atmosphere.

Great Valentine's Dinner!
Submitted Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 11:55pm [Dine in]

Had a family Valentine's Day dinner. Since we got there at 5 pm, we were seated right away...not so for the patrons arriving past 5:15, quite busy by then.

I ordered the New York Classic dinner which arrived perfectly done (rare), the boys both had half rack ribs with Caesar salad and they really liked theirs, and the hubby ordered the Rib Steak which he ordered at med-rare which came exactly as that. The boys loved eating their Dad's "frizzled"(?) onions--usually they don't like onions but obviously loved the way Keg makes their onions.

All in all, it was a great way to spend Valentine's Day. Oh, they also give a mini (4 squares) of chocolate for you to take home--pleasant surprise.

Crowded at 5:30 pm!
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

Was there w/ friends on Saturday at 5:30 pm. Could not believe how crowded it was at that time. Could not tell me that there is a recession! During our wait, one of the Keggers came with a tray of appies...nice of Keg for those who are waiting a long time. After 45 min., we were led to our table but the hostess found out that the table was occupied, so we had to wait another couple of minutes.

At our table, we were greeted by our server almost right away who was very friendly. The 4 occupying the table next to us however could have been a whole lot quieter, 2 of the guys were well into their cups!

Anyways, one of my friends and I ordered the Sirloin Classic and the other Prime Rib Classic. All 3 entrees came out exactly as we ordered, even though the baked potato was on the dry side. It was one of my pals birthday and the birthday person gets a free dessert for their birthday.

Really Good Hainanese Chicken
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 2:53pm [Dine in]

Hainanese chicken w/5 bowls of flavoured rice is their specialty & it is a good value at $17. Their pork & chicken satays are yummy but not so w/ their beef which is on the dry side...we always order a dozen skewers for $12. The boys love the green onion prata bread.

Even though the restaurant could do w/ much better furnishings, it is worth it for the hainanese chicken & satays!

Love their Pho & Curry Sandwiches
Submitted Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 6:34pm [Dine in]

Been there lots of times w/ the family. From their lunch specials, I've ordered the curry chicken sandwich numerous times. The curry chicken comes in a bowl separately from the yummy crunchy-crusted bread -- very filling. The broth for the pho is really good, no msg detected. Their spring rolls and hot & sour soup are very good too.

Last 2 Dishes Took Way Too Long!
Submitted Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 6:10pm [Dine in]

Was there w/ family this Friday. The 2nd to last dish to arrive was Chicken w/ Black Bean Sauce with steamed rice. The last dish was E-fu noodles. No one ever came around to apologize for delay. Had to ask for them to check on it but of course got the usual excuse that there so many tables to serve, but by the time the noodles came only 3 occupied tables were left, one of them was ours! Won't be back.
