John B. Neighbourhood Pub, The1000 Austin Ave., Coquitlam
Great John B Nacho's not GF
Submitted Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 7:03pm [Dine in]

I have been a fan of the John B for years as I live in the neighbourhood and have taken many people there - even my mother for their Mother's Day brunch! But just learned of late that their tortilla chip has wheat in it - which is way too bad as I really enjoyed their nacho dishes. I guess all restaurants and pubs etc can change their suppliers as they need to, I can still eat there, but am at the mercy of the wait staff checking on ingredients for me.

Let down at Nu...
Submitted Tuesday, March 23, 2010 - 9:55pm [Dine in]

We have been to Nu many times and both the food and service have been great. Just this past weekend, March, 20th, 2010, we invited some good freinds to join us in a celebration and were quite let down by the food! Too bad! The service was great by our waitress, but everybody was a little down about their food. The drinks ordered were bang on and probably made by our waitress. There was pasta ordered and we think that it was previously frozen, rather than made fresh - Chef Ramsey would be mad! There was a mussle dish that though great was way too much, did I say way too much! on the mussle, if you can believe it, (though the broth was the winning feature, not enough variety in this dish) - we had the option of ordering shrimp to this dish but were served a mere couple in this overly TOO much mussle dish (might not eat mussles for the rest of my life). The Mac&Cheese eater was happy will say that. There was a Cornish Hen that was dry and the eater didn't eat what was on the plate underneath it or around it as they didn't know what it was. Wanted to let the restaurant know of this but couldn't find a spot in their site to leave comment. Too bad! We will probably go to Nu still for breakfast and lunches just the two of us, but not bring a crowd again. Now, noticing that the place was not busy when we walked in for our reservation at 7pm and noting other reviews on Nu noting the same - Nu has lost some key players in the kitchen... though the staff that tended us, some I recognized from prior visits and were still very good, in summary, we won't risk taking a big crowd there.

Orange Room, The620 6th Street, New Westminster
Nice Surprise in New West
Submitted Thursday, November 5, 2009 - 10:29pm [Dine in]

Was looking for a restaurant that a friend and I could get together at in New Westminster after work this stormy November 5th, 2009. Was actually checking on another franchise restaurant's menu nearby to see what I could have - french fries?, when I saw on a Dine Here site below a good review and some words of that attracted me: "Wheat / GlutenFree". It is tough for us Celiacs at the best of times. I had been at this restaurant a few years ago and it was okay, and I was safe with their food and it was okay for ambiance for the type of atmosphere we were expecting - so from the review that I saw, I thought something new is going on and we should try it. I called ahead to make sure I wasn't dreaming, and sure enough the wait person on the line was very knowledgable about their food and prep etc. Well, it was great! I had their organic cherizo burger "no bun", with house salad and their muscles in saffron broth. My friend stuck her bread in my broth (felt bad), but the waitress brought out a small bowl of broth without me even asking her, for me to finish with. Nice touch! Maybe because it was blowing and storming outside, the Orange Room was cozy and relaxing; put your coat on the back of your chair. No pushing of any beverages, but the house red was lovely. I was impressed with their menu that it catered to some special groups of interest. And on checking out what others were dining on around me (casual enough to talk to the table next to you, at least this night), I hope they do well so I can dine again and try more from their menu soon.

A Good Restaurant in Coquitlam
Submitted Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 2:33pm [Dine in]

Kefi's is a restaurant I visit often. I find the food more original than other Greek restaurants and perhaps it is the home-cooked goodness that I enjoy. It is a younger restaurant in Coquitlam and though they are very accommodating, sometimes they are not prepared for the numbers that show up, so I am patient - it is not a fast food experience - the food is very fresh. The ambiance is pretty good considering they are located just off Lougheed Hwy.
