only b/c our friends recommended this place, we ventured a try.
ordered 2 pc halibut + yam fries (which cost $2 extra) for $15.
waited 25 min, got tartar sauce free + helped ourselves to vinegar.
food was okay but when we showed our friends the sizes of the 2 pcs of halibut, they said they got "twice the size", so we felt kind of gypped. wasn't tasty enough for us to revisit - + that's the test, isn't it...
On a Saturday lunchtime, we four popped in @ 1:30pm to take our chances. Mostly packed, but there were 2 tables available for 4.
Took our guests a while to figure out their order + waitress was ready to take them, but was happy to return when guests weren't done.
We signalled when we were + she smilingly obliged. We ordered 2 seafood noodles, chicken teriyaki, prawn/veg tempura, salmon + tuna nigiri sushi, dynamite rolls + awesome roll (which was aptly named). Simply outstanding were: seafood noodles (doubt that we could find better anywere) plus awesome roll. The other dishes were a very close second. Tea was filled regularly + we paid $15 each. Still busy as we left + 3pm. We're fussy but we left happily satisfied...rare occurence.
group of 10 on a Friday night w/no reservations. not busy. we know why. dh had roast lamb, I had calamari. we frequent My Greek Taverna for lunch & their lunch portions were larger than dinner portions here. Flavour: both not as good as Greek Taverna on Brunette. Rice was soggy + mushy, calamari was okay but not crispy + tasty. Roast lamb was okay, but not flavourful like the other place we favour. Belly dancer was friendly + did a great job w/our group, creating lots of laughs.
But for greek, we'll be returning to Brunette St. for our fix.
There are many who think that they can earn an income, running a restaurant.
This restaurant didn't make it. it is now closed.
The new restaurant is Romanoff's. I have no idea what the menu is offering and have yet to try.
recommended by a friend, we tried their dim sum. we found
the flavour & quality to be lacking - we're fussy and can taste when
ingredients are not optimum fresh, as was the case here.
disappointed with food, even though service was great. only one other table was occupied, in addition to ours.
we're regulars here b/c:
- hamburgers are outstanding - cheese burger is a $4.95 special
- cajun chicken burger is excellent
they're so good, we have trouble trying other entrees!
wait staff is always friendly and accomodating
a friend recommended this to us so we tried this w/two other friends.
we all found it disappointing & pricey, especially since Richmond
has a cornucopia of chinese restaurants to choose from for dim sum.
hadn't been for quite a while, so we thought we would re-visit.
food is acceptable, but overpriced. good dim sum can be found in many other establishments at a more reasonable price.
we'd rather pay less and get more...notwithstanding the quality
factor.
won't be back.
went here for a tryout - got a gift from dd to treat us to any restaurant we liked for our 40th anniversary. 4 of us had rack of lamb, 2 blackened steaks, & roast chicken. Only rack of lamb was passable; rest were really disappointing. had to ask for coffee twice from unfriendly waitress (she thought she was doing us a huge favour!) & were mostly not attended to.
they have the tourist trade - they don't seem to encourage local business.
best feature? view while dining.
