Lousy place. Worst server ever!
Submitted Thursday, October 16, 2014 - 4:43pm [Dine in]

Had lunch at Aphrodites earlier this week. Ordered the large bowl of turkey vegetable soup.
When the server arrived, the soup had spilt over into the plate, onto the bread, into the little butter container and was all over the spoon including the handle.

The server explained that he had "almost tripped" with the soup.
He wanted to know if i "cared" stating that "some people wouldn't care".
I told him i cared and he took the soup away.
He returned with the same bowl of soup complete with spill marks, same soggy bread and same butter but now on a new plate with a clean spoon. The bowl made ring marks on the plate and had cooled down.

Anyways i ate what was left of the soup-it was quite thin and not a lot of veggies and hardly any turkey.
For this they charged $7.95

My friend paid the bill and i don't know if a tip was left or not. I wouldn't have left him a dime.

I emailed in a complaint but never heard back.
A miserable experience-will never go back.

Don't order the "risotto"
Submitted Monday, October 14, 2013 - 12:05pm [Dine in]

Was here on the weekend with a friend for dinner after the theatre.
My friend had the fish tacos and i had the risotto.
My friend really liked the tacos and her drink.

Unfortunately my risotto wasn't so good. It was basically brown rice with mushrooms and did not resemble any risotto i have had in the past. For this they charged around $15.00
Risotto needs to be made with high starch white rice that by stirring creates a creamy sauce. They really need to describe this dish differently-it is not risotto.
The flavour was good but it was so salty that my mouth and throat were actually burning from the salt afterwards.

The service was friendly and prompt.

This place is the worst-try somewhere else.
Submitted Saturday, June 8, 2013 - 5:25pm [Dine in]

Stopped in for a late breakfast today.
It was the worst breakfast i'd ever had.

I ordered two poached eggs with the turkey sausages and "breakfast" potatoes w toast. It was basically inedible.
The turkey sausages were so dried out they were on their way to being jerky.
The casing was like sawing through cardboard to a dried out interior.
These sausages had obviously had been sitting around all morning or maybe since yesterday or the day before. They looked so horrible sitting on the plate.
They belonged in the garbage not on a plate.

The poached eggs were o.k. but the potatoes were only barely lukewarm and soft, the toast was just barely toasted and not even warm. This place can't even do toast.

All i could eat was the eggs. The server asked how breakfast was so i told her and she said she would let the kitchen know. My bill was not adjusted at all. Basically paid $11 for two poached eggs plus the cost of the tea.
Waited 45 min to be served this mess.

Also the bathroom did not have any paper towels.
Sure wish i had gone somewhere else-a greasy spoon would have been a lot better than this place.

Araxi Restaurant + Bar4222 Village Square, Whistler
Araxi lives up to it's reputation!
Submitted Monday, March 25, 2013 - 9:56am [Dine in]

My cousin and i treated ourselves to dinner at Araxi last week. It was wonderful and we were so glad we went.

The restaurant was packed and we were shown to our table in the centre. Next time i'll request a table on the side as it was noisy.

Our server was great and she recommended a carafe of wine which went very well with our food.

My cousin had the miso crusted sable fish and i had the risotto. She raved about her dish and the risotto was fabulous and memorable.

We shared a creme brulee for dessert. It was delicious and we really enjoyed it. As we were sharing, they included 2 mini ginger cookies with it.

We were a bit hesitant to go as we are not "rich" and wondered how two women on a break would be treated? Our service was great and the fact that we did not order a pricey bottle of wine or appetizers etc. made no difference. We were comfortable and enjoyed being there.

Great chef's are artists and that is very apparent at Araxi's. We really appreciated their abilities to develop complex flavours.

Our bill with tip was around $120 and we considered it money well spent.
Will be going back and looking forward to it!

Lovely Gelato
Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - 4:00pm [Dine in]

Went for gelato today at the Cone Zone after a disappointing lunch at a nearby Malaysian place.
Had two flavours in a cone and it was delicious-black forest and choc./coconut.

Good value and they don't charge extra for waffle cones! Probably the only place that does this.
Now know where to go for gelato in New West.

Tamarind Hill Malaysian Cuisine628 6th Avenue, #103, New Westminster
Bad Malaysian Food.
Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - 3:54pm [Dine in]

Tamarind Hill advertises itself as "the pinnacle of Malaysian food". Well it certainly is not, had lunch there today it was very bad.

I had the Sayur Lemak-veggie's in a curry sauce with turmeric rice with a veggie spring roll.
The veggies were overcooked soggy especially the cauliflower which was a soggy mess-obviously been frozen and maybe reheated who knows how many times?
The rest of the veggies were not fresh. It's the height of our local produce season and if a restaurant can't be bothered to get in some lovely local produce-then they just don't care what they serve.

The turmeric rice appeared to be cooked well in advance as it was lukewarm and already getting a little dried out by the time it was served.

I watched other dishes being brought out and the entree's were steaming but if rice was served it looked lukewarm as well there was no steam so i wasn't the only one with lukewarm rice.
The spring roll was pretty standard a little greasy and about half the size of spring rolls in other restaurants.
The service was good.

Paid $8.25 for veggie mush.
Won't be back.

Good meeting place if food is not important to you.
Submitted Sunday, July 1, 2012 - 11:18am [Dine in]

A few friends and i had lunch there recently. We enjoyed each other's company, the ambiance and that was about it.
Everyone was disappointed in their lunch. I had greek salad and it was very bad. Ladner has hothouses growing tomatoes close by yet the tomatoes were obviously imported from a really long ways away. There was a little feta and a few olives on the salad. I felt ripped off paying for it.
The server seemed impatient, busy {maybe understaffing?} and didn't like to answer questions.
Ladner is a farming community and has a market during the summer. It certainly appears that not much if any local produce makes it's way into this place.
This restaurant has a lovely setting with a patio. If this is the most important thing to you, then Taverna Gorgona is for you.

Love the Bambo cafe! Great latte's and soups.
Their lentil soup is the best i've had and am trying to replicate it at home

Not upscale and probably doesn't get a lot of tourists- has the feel of of a community place with lots of regulars.
A little unpretentious place that you feel comfortable in.

Oh Steamworks-you have let me down so many times.....
Submitted Sunday, June 24, 2012 - 9:17am [Dine in]

I have gone to Steamworks quite a few times in the past two years. Why? Cause it is a bit of a hang out for some of my friends.
The last time i had their Quinoa burger except i don't eat wheat so asked for the patty with no bun. They were happy to oblige.
The menu advertised this burger served with lime mayo which sounded yummy. When my dinner arrived, it had the patty alright-all dried out and sitting on the platter with no mayo-no nothing on top with the accompanying fries and salad. For this i paid around $12.95.
At other times their food has been a disappointment and overpriced for what you get.
The beer is good but can get good beer at lots of other places.
Anyways, next time the crowd wants to go to Steamworks-i'll convince them to go somewhere else. Steamworks-you have got your last dollar out of me.

Tapenade Bistro3711 Bayview Street, Richmond
We will be back
Submitted Friday, June 22, 2012 - 5:19pm [Dine in]

Had lunch at Tapenade in May with a friend. It was a wonderful lunch.

I noticed that one of the specials was served with Israeli couscous. Didn't want the special but wanted to try the couscous. This was obliged no problem and a beautiful little tasting dish was brought out and we were charged $2.95.

We both had the appetizer fish and chips as a main course and it was delicious-the best i have ever had.

The only little disappointment was as the restaurant prides itself on sourcing local and sustainable food, there was no no dessert made with local rhubarb. Rhubarb is the first fruit of the season and there is certainly a lot growing in Richmond. A fresh rhubarb dessert would have been the perfect end to a lovely meal.

Tapenade doesn't have a water view. If you like to have a view, go for a walk along the river, forget about the restaurants by the river-their food just doesn't measure up, then go to Tapenade. You won't regret it.

Too noisy, too crowded
Submitted Friday, June 22, 2012 - 4:25pm [Dine in]

we ate there recently. we made reservations two weeks in advance and were told that we could only have a table for two hours maximum. they then called just to make sure we remembered that we could only stay for two hours...seems this is two hour max is standard.
we arrived on time a little early and stood in line until we could be seated at a very small table in a row of small tables running down the centre of the room. one side of the room has a padded bench seating running along the wall with chairs on the other of the tables. i generally don't like to be seated in the centre of a restaurant but these tables are definitely better than being crammed along the wall. the food was good but the restaurant was very noisy and it's hard to have a conversation. the service was so so-not very friendly and the server lost interest in us after she realized that we were going to have a glass of wine each and not a bottle.
it looked like the folks crammed in along the wall were having an even worse time talking then we were. we actually left before our 2 hours were up and escaped to a quiet coffee bar to have our lattes.
i have related my experience at les faux bourgeois to several other people who wanted to try it- they are now not interested in going, as one put it' "this is vancouver, there are lots of places that have great food", she also likes to have conversation at dinner. anyways we won't be back-just not worth sitting there amid the noise and crowding.

Ladner Sushi is always cold when we've been there. The front door does not close properly. Often the heat does not appear to be on. As it was recently renovated due to fire, there is no excuse for this. We have eaten there several times now but won't be back.
