My wife and I decided to venture down Robson towards Denman and came across Tang Thai Restaurant. It was around 6 pm, so we decided to try it for dinner. The server greeted us and sat us beside the window. It was our first time here so we asked the server for suggestions. She recommend the traditional pad thai with the tamarind sauce and the green chicken curry. We also decided to try the chicken satay and ordered a side of jasmine rice for the curry.
The satay came first. The 4 skewers were yellow from the turmeric powder (server told us) and seemed deep fried. It was good, not dry. I enjoyed dipping it in both the satay sauce and the clear one. They complimented the chicken satay very well. My wife enjoyed the chicken by itself since it was already tasty from the turmeric and the other spices.
Next came the green curry on a leaf bowl and the rice on a decorated aluminum bowl. Wow, the green curry was delicious and quite spicy but it's ok. We both enjoyed the "kick". The rice helped tone down the curry. During this time the server refilled our glasses without even me asking them to. Thanks!
The pad thai came while we were enjoying the curry. Even though it was not as spicy as the green curry, it was good too! The noodles were cooked just right - not oily nor dry. I squeezed the lime on it and mixed everything together including the fresh bean sprouts and peanuts. My wife and I loved the sour taste of the tamarind and the lime juice since it complimented the slight sweetness of the sauce. I couldn't stop eating even though I was already full.
The server came back asking if we wanted dessert but we had to pass since we had no room for it. BTW, I loved the fact that I didn't have to stand up to pay as the server brought the credit card machine to us. Thank god since I had a hard time standing in the 1st place.
We'll definitely come back to try the other dishes!
