Extremely economical breakfast, but hurry, hurry, wait, wait and wait.......
Submitted Friday, February 5, 2010 - 12:48pm [Dine in]

I know that this place is really popular for their all day breakfast, and rightly so. There portions were really big, but it's all about the wait.

We had to wait 30 minutes to get a table. Understandably, it was a Sunday morning. When we got a table, the waitress came to take our orders in about 2.5 seconds. I had to read the menu. She kept coming back every 5 seconds like I was occupying her table. Then when I ordered, I had finished my whole entire juice and 4 cups of coffee later, my food came. It felt like they only had one cook. Don't quite understand.

Then I saw this guy that didn't have enough to eat from his order. He made another order of pancakes. It took 3 minutes for it to get there and I'm still waiting for my food. I don't get it. Hmm.....

Overall, I will go back, but maybe not on a Saturday.

Great fish and chips in the area
Submitted Friday, February 5, 2010 - 12:39pm [Dine in]

I found this place online, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Food was really good and price was very reasonable.

The ambiance was like just another diner. However, the service was a little rusty. I'm not too sure if I had a new waitress on my first visit, but she forgot my dinner buns for my meal. I had to ask for it. She took my soft drink to refill and never came back with it until I asked. Then, when my fish came, she told me it was cod, when I ordered halibut. She said she would double check. She came back and told me it was halibut, but it tasted like cod.

Overall, I really like this place. There isn't very many fish and chips places in the area. I found that the people there were quite nice, despite the fact that they were rusty.

I would definatly go back!!!

Not hitting the mark for me.
Submitted Monday, February 1, 2010 - 12:04pm [Dine in]

I have read the reviews and thought I would try out this place.

I had a lunch special and was a little bit shocked. It seems like it was chinese people that opened up this japanese restaurant for white people.

I had a chicken udon. The chicken had been in the soup of days, with onions in the soup to drown out the chicken taste. The tempura was all fried up like sweet & sour pork you get from the chinese food stand.

The sashimi was good, but it wasn't the best quality. For the price, I think it's an okay place.

Will go back to try out other stuff.

Never again will I go back!!!
Submitted Monday, February 1, 2010 - 11:59am [Dine in]

I don't think I have ever had such an expensive Hot Pot experience in my life.

The food was just food. Afterall, how could you possibly go wrong with raw meat and cut up vegetables. Their watermelon juice was $15 a jug, which I didn't order.

Yes, you get your own pot to make your own food, and yes, it is a novelty, but definately wasn't worth it. My pot was burnt out before I was done and no one came to relight another flame. It was almost like, "I got your money, now leave".

The ambiance would be good for young people, dark, but they still had their christmas tree up. Huh???

Would never go back!!!

I use to always like to come here, but I am getting really disappointed.

Nothing was really outstanding about this place, which was quite expected.

The spring rolls are almost $3.00. I almost fell out of my chair!!!

I ordered a lemon soda and it took forever to come. My soup was hot, but there was a lot of MSG.

I might come back if I had to, but wouldn't do it, if I had a choice.

Cannery Seafood House, The2205 Commissioner Street, Vancouver
By far my favorite place!!!
Submitted Monday, February 1, 2010 - 11:35am [Dine in]

Too bad they are closing down. I am very disappointed.

I thought I should go to the cannery again before they close down. It was wonderful all around.

We had half dozen oysters. They were pretty small for $16. However, we also ordered the musssels. It was great.

The linguine came with a lot of seafood and the presentation was really cute that it came in a wok.

My friend had a salmon wellington, which was really awsome too!!!

If I get a chance, I will definately go again!!!!

Wonderful waiter too!!!!

I read about this place and thought that this may be a good place to try out, as I live close by. I don't think it's anything special.

I had thier bento box. The people there were very polite and the service was quite outstanding. The tempura I had was veeeery oily. I think it's because they do not deep fry with hot enough oil.

The sashimi was very good. It was somewhat a better quality than most places I have been to in the area.

The sauce on the rice had a weird taste, but I think it's because I don't quite like it.

I would go back again to try out their raw sashimi and evaulate them again with their raw stuff, as it was quite impressive for me.

Sandwich is all that you should be expecting.
Submitted Tuesday, December 15, 2009 - 4:00pm [Dine in]

I have been going here for years. I love the sandwiches here. I haven't found anything better yet.

Other than that, nothing else should be expected. The service there is quite sad. Life I said, I have been there many times. The owner's son is quite moody. I've ordered take out from there. I asked for sandwiches before, and he had asked me if I wanted hot peppers. When I said "no". He rudely told me that next time I should tell him right off the bat. People that he knows would come in, he wouldn't charge them tax. I buy 6 sandwiches at a time, but because he didn't know me, I had to pay tax. How fair is that?

I have tried other stuff. They are good too, but not outstanding.

I find that this place is more expensive than most, but they are GOOOD!!!!

A great little Ramen Place
Submitted Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 11:03am [Dine in]

I found that this place is great all around. I was walking in the mall and found this place, so I decided to give it a try. It was pretty awsome.

I haven't tried a lot of ramen places, but this place is not bad at all. Although I thought the portions were not very big. I thought it was perfect for me, if I wanted some side dishes too.

The waitress we had was very pleasant and quite attentive.

This place was quite inexpensive for the amount of food we got. For the two of us, we paid $15 for two bowls of ramen.

I would definately go back.

Cactus Club Cafe1530 W. Broadway, Vancouver
Overpriced for Regular Food
Submitted Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 10:15am [Dine in]

I have not been to a Cactus Club in a while, simply I found that their food was never outstanding to me. Sure enough, it has not changed.

We started off with a calamari. I had chicken tenders and my friend had a sandwich with a dip of some sort. The calamari had jalapeno's and peppers in it. It came with two different dips. I was quite impressed with a little bit of a kick with the jalapenos.

Secondly, the chicken tenders were really good. I was asked if I wanted yam fries instead, I was never told that there was an extra charge to it. Everywhere else, they would tell me "with an extra $, you can substitute" I tried a little bit of the sandwich with a dip. It was very bland.

When I got the bill, I was a little surprised. A lunch for two with no drinks and just 1 appetizer, it was over $45. I think it was fairly overpriced.

My personal favorite for Korean
Submitted Tuesday, December 1, 2009 - 1:52pm [Dine in]

I have been here a couple of times and I quite enjoy this place. I haven't had any problems/issues with anything here.

The food was pretty good. Portions were very impressive.

The service was really good too. They kept on coming to change the grill for us. Once the bell was pushed, they came immediately. Once, we pushed the bell and it took a minute or two, but nothing to classify as bad service.

We had ordered the deluxe combo (for 4-5 people) for the party of 5 we had. We were full. For the amount we paid, I thought the price was very reasonable.

For some Korean restaurants, especially with a bbq menu, it gets smokey. I find that the ventalation in this place was very impressive. I couldn't avoid having the bbq smell on my clothes, but it wasn't as bad as most.

I would definately go back!

Don't ask for anything else, but food......
Submitted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 - 11:20am [Dine in]

I have been to this place several times, and it has always been the service that keeps me away.

For a chinese place, this place is pretty clean. Not outstanding, just a regular noodle place, but poor service. Everytime I am in there, I feel that I am being rushed out of there. I understand that they have people waiting, but it feels that they start taking my dishes away, when the last bite goes into my mouth. Like they are sitting there wating me.

Nothing more to expect other than food, because you won't get anything else.

I was here for the Taste of Yaletown. When I was reading the menus, this was one of the restaurants that stood out for me.

There was a couple of us,. I tried out their raw oysters, surf and turf (steak, prawns and scallop) AND their Almond Pear Tart. Others had the seafood chowder and the sablefish, which all seems really good.

Although we had to order other stuff on the side, it turned out to about $45 per person, which I thought it was quite reasonable.

Will definately going back!

Definately a tasting experience
Submitted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 - 10:58am [Dine in]

I was here for the Taste of Yaletown and it was just that.

For $25, I had an appetizer, an entre and a dessert.

The food was reeeally good, and the sizes of the plates were big, but the food on the plates were small. There was three of us and we all had difference food, so we got to try a little bit of everything.

Overall, good, but I thought the portions were very small. I'm not too sure if it is because it was the Taste of Yaletown, that was why the portions were smaller.

Would go back to try their regular menu.

Submitted Monday, October 5, 2009 - 3:39pm [Dine in]

I haven't been here for a while. I thought it would be a good little place to try again after a decade or two. Very surprised at the outcome. Absolutly loved it.

We ordered the calamari appetizer, which the menu said it was the "specialty". Indeed it was wonderfully done. Lightly battered it was not stuck together at all.

I have ordered the beef souvlaki. I have asked for garden salad as I didn't like greek salad. It was over dressed, so they were not cheap on the dressing. The beef souvlaki was perfectly cooked for me, with a side of wonderfully cooked potatoes and rice. I wasn't a big fan of the rice, as I didn't like that strong frangrance coming from it, but I'm sure it was an acquired taste.

My friend had the roasted lamb. It looked very tender and very filling for a good price.

Overall, wonderfully done. Will be going back for sure!!!!

A cute little curry joint....
Submitted Friday, September 25, 2009 - 11:51am [Dine in]

I enjoyed my dinner here.

There were a couple of us, so we got to try out a few dishes.

The appetizer sampler was a little delight. I didn't quite enjoy the Buttered Chicken that much. It wasn't as creamy as I usually have it. The Prawn Masala was very good. The Curry Beef was good choice too.

Their garlic naan and roti was very delicious too!

Definately going again.

Submitted Friday, September 25, 2009 - 11:41am [Dine in]

My first time there, I was quite disappointed.

The penne with tomatoe sauce was so over spiced with enough salt to see my blood pressure go through the sky. It came out warm.

However, the lasagna came out cold. Apparently this was one of the recommendation by their employees. For a feature of the menu, VEEERY disappointed. The middle of the compressed lasagna was stone cold.

The service was quite nice though.

The ambiance was pretty much the identical look of Glowbal.

Don't think I will be going back here.

Must Try!!!
Submitted Wednesday, July 22, 2009 - 10:20am [Dine in]

I found this place through a friend. It was apparently a sushi joint that I "MUST TRY". He was right. It was awesome.

I tried the Volcano Roll and the Paradise Roll. OUTSTANDING. The sashimi was very fresh. Although I paid more than the usually mediocre sushi joints, but well worth the money. Very authentic japanese food.

The service there was outstanding too. Very polite japanese waitress.

Good, but not great.
Submitted Wednesday, July 22, 2009 - 9:48am [Dine in]

This seems to me as a Japanese/Korean restaurant. it's got japanese food, but also sells Korean food. It is definately run by Korean people.

I tried thier cold noodles and it was pretty good, but I've had better tempura that accompanied the noodles. They seemed a little soggy. It wasn't as deep fried and crispy as most of the tempura I've had.

The sashimi there was quite fresh, but a little bit on the pricey side.

The service was pretty mediocre. Some of them don't seem to understand a whole lot of english, but overall, they were very nice people.

The atmosphere there was quite nice. A little cramped with a huge shelf by the door and their utensils sitting on the shelf. It just looked messy and sloppy.

A Big disappointment
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 12:27pm [Dine in]

After reading the reviews, I decided to go for a try. What a mistake!!

I had a sandwhich and I thought it was horrible. I don't think I've ever had a Vietnamese Sandwich with such a big disappointment in my life. Why advertise the sandwiches on the sign when they were not good. I could understand if they were on the menu, but signs outside????

I had the spring rolls and they were good, but overpriced. For $5.75 I got 3 little spring rolls that was barely three pieces when it was cut up with nothing else, NOTHING.

However, I tried a little bit of the noodles and soup. That was pretty good. The soup base was good, and the noodles were really good too.

The service.........a little welcoming smile would be nice. Barely any eye contact.

However, for a Vietnamese place, it's pretty clean.
