I have stopped in to this place on and off for the last couple of years for a quick slice or two, mainly to "fuel up". The guys who own/operate it (I think they really are 4 brothers!) are really nice guys. I even caught a ride home with a delivery driver one night when it was raining, and he didn't want any money for it.
As for the pizza, it's for sure better than average for a by-the-slice joint. That said, it's not fine quality pizza, but they are generous. My main concerns is that as their popularity has grown, they have ramped up their prices. The aforementioned super deal of $4.95 for a small I doubt is available any more. I have an old delivery menu of theirs, and I recently ordered delivery. The prices in the menu (about one year old) were not less than 15% too low. I was sort of shocked.
I recommend dropping in for a slice if you're walking by. The quality is above average, the selection great, and they have a lot of turnover of their pizza, so it's always hot and fresh. By way of comparison, I say their pizza is slightly better than the Pizza Garden further down Commercial by Venables St., which is also a popular spot. Stay away from delivery, though, is my recommendation. The other problem, aside from decreasingly respectable pricing, is that they have no waffle insert in the box, so the pizza sits directly on the cardboard. Because they top their pizzas so generously, there's a LOT of moisture. The slices are invariably soggy/mushy by the time the delivery arrives.
I do, however, recommend these groovy things they have called "Jalepeno Bites", which are all-in-all very tasty (crispy bites with melted mozza inside and minced bits of jalapeno; not so much to be overly hot, but enough to add zing to the cheese).
My favorite slice for drop in is their veggie selection with the artichokes, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes. I'm not a veggie guy, but find this one very tasty, with a no-guilt healthy feeling about it.
Enjoy.
