My family and I have been regulars at All Thai’d Up for some months now and we all agree it is the best Thai cuisine we’ve eaten in the Fraser Valley (and we’ve tried them all). We’ve travelled to Thailand numerous times and love the food, but our problem was finding a restaurant here that cooked traditional Thai food the way we had it there. We were unaware of this little restaurant, tucked away in the corner of Port Coquitlam on Kingsway, until we read about them winning the Readers Choice Award for the best thai restaurant in the Tri-Cities. After our first visit we couldn’t have agreed more.
We have found that most of the Thai restaurants around Vancouver have ‘westernized’ their menus and seem to have cut corners on some of the ingredients (maybe to cut costs?), but this leaves you short of experiencing the true range of flavors Thai cuisine can give you. This place doesn’t seem to miss any of the proper ingredients when preparing our meals. We now know that they make their own plum sauce, peanut sauce and curry pastes right there in the restaurant; and they make spring rolls to die for. They also make a Rice Pilaf (coconut rice with pineapple and turmeric) that we can’t get enough of. Our favorite dishes are the Panang Curry, Phad Thai, Tom Yum Goong, Cashew chicken and their signature dish – All Thai’d Up Jealousy.
The restaurant is in an out of the way location on an industrial strip of Kingsway, close to Westwood, but parking isn’t a problem on the street in front. It was a surprise to find the interior of the restaurant so charming and welcoming, with personal photos of Thailand, by the family that owns All Thai’d Up, covering the walls. We are always made to feel like guests in their home when we are there. We have found it to get quite busy on Friday and Saturday nights (especially with the Take Out orders) so we usually go on Thursdays or Sundays, or call in for a reservation.
The prices are the same as other Thai restaurants in and around Vancouver, but the quality of the food surpasses most others and the portions on their menu items tend to be larger as well. We always seem to have leftovers to take home for lunch the next day. There is seating for about 25 to 30 people and they are licensed, so I can always enjoy my Singha beer with my meal. It is a family run business and the Chefs are Thai. We recommend this place to any we meet and we hope they will survive these hard economic times (especially with the HST), for it would be sad to lose this little gem of a restaurant in Port Coquitlam.
