Eggs Benny
Submitted Monday, December 17, 2007 - 11:22am [Dine in]

Went here Sunday for brunch with a girlfriend and her daughter. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, she, the vegetarian Thai salad. Service was quick, even though it was very busy. Food came out about 15 minutes after we ordered. WOW, the eggs benedict were incredible...no kidding, the best I have ever had! Portion size was perfect! My friend thoroughly enjoyed her large salad, eating every bite. Very kid friendly, but yes, very noisy as well.

I will be back for the eggs benny!!!!

What happened...
Submitted Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - 9:55am [Dine in]

After 2 previous glowing reviews of this restaurant by myself, I thought I'd better give it another go for 2nd time since my last 2 reviews.

I don't know what happened to this place, but it certainly has gone down-hill. My husband & I walked in & were seated immediately, however the server did not come over for at least 10 mins. The place had 4 other patrons in it, so it was not busy. The waitress finally came by & took our orders. The food took what seemed forever to come out & when it arrived, it was only mediocre in taste. Not like what I had remembered from my other 2 visits. Seems quality in food & staff has been compromised. There are far too many restaurants to frequent this one anytime soon again.

Excellent Pizza...
Submitted Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - 9:46am [Dine in]

Had delivery here on a Monday night. Ordered one medium hawaiian with extra pineapple & was told it would take up to 45 min for delivery. I believe the pizza arrived about 20 mins later. Opened up the box & it looked so yummy! It was piping hot & loaded with pineapple. The first bite did not disappoint!! Everything had amazing flavor & they were extremely generous with toppings. This is my new favorite East side pizza joint!

I rated ambiance a 1 as it's not the nicest place to have a sit-down meal, but it's great for take-out or delivery.

Name change... same great food
Submitted Friday, January 5, 2007 - 2:02pm [Dine in]

Opa Taverna has changed their name as of January 2007.
It is now called Thea's Taverna. I quite often pop in for lunch as I work in the neighbourhood. Same great food and consistent service! Great place to pop in for a quick lunch if you are in Queensborough (Wal-Mart) area of New West.

Good Thai on the East side...
Submitted Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:37am [Dine in]

A friend and I decided to order from here last night. Being on the east side, there aren't a lot of good Thai restaurants that I know of. And, we didn't want the usual long wait for the Thai House to deliver from Kits either. Decided to take a try on this place and it was worth it!

We ordered the spring rolls, which were of course typical to most Thai restaurants - solid. We also ordered the yellow chicken curry and coconut rice. WOW, the curry was amazing... I did not want to stop eating! Bright beautiful yellow colour, with red and green peppers and huge chunks of pineapple, with just the right spice.

Can't rate the ambiance as we had delivery, but I'll give it a 3 just to be nice. Ha-ha.

I can't wait to go back to my friend's house to order from here again!

Submitted Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 12:21pm [Dine in]

A girlfriend and I decided to give this place a try last Friday. We arrived at around 8pm and were seated almost immediately. The room has a definite 'New York' feel to it. I love the mirrored walls, so even if you have your back to everybody, you can still see everthing.

We shared 3 tapas (perogies, beef skewers and pacific halibut), and ended the evening with the lemon cardamom cremè brulèe. All in all, the food was quite good!

The service wasn't that great though. Granted, it was busy... I felt like she was trying to rush us. At no point was there a warm and fuzzy feeling from the waitress. I don't even think she spoke 5 words to us as a matter of fact.

Nothing Special...
Submitted Tuesday, October 3, 2006 - 11:35pm [Dine in]

I dined here this evening. I ordered a cheeseburer w/caesar salad. Nothing expeptional about the place at all. This was my first visit. . I originally expected to take-out my order, but the resaurant was empty, so decided to dine in. Sericve was ok, but the waitress kept yelling to the kitchen staff , which was not pofessional. Burger was dry, caesar was good. Nothing to rave about.

Cafe Crepe1032 Robson St, Vancouver
Much better at night...
Submitted Monday, August 28, 2006 - 1:45pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend decided he wanted a Crepe on a Sunday morning, so off to Cafe Crepe we went. We had first spotted this place on a Friday evening after dinner in Yaletown while looking for a funky place to have a drink & people watch.

When we walked in, one of the servers promptly seated us. A short time later, another server took our drink & food order. She didn't seem very friendly at all, kind of like we were interrupting her. A bit disappointing to say the least.

Anyways, we both ordered the Cafe Crepe Breakfast (3 eggs, bacon or sausage & a choice of one of several crepes). I chose the Cinnamon & Sugar crepe, which was definitely lacking in flavour (gimme more sugar dangit!). My boyfriend ordered the Maple Syrup crepe which he loved.

We would go back to see how the other crepes measure up. We will also be back in the evening for some drinks on their sidewalk patio. Great for people watching!

Disappointing...
Submitted Monday, August 28, 2006 - 11:05am [Dine in]

We made reservations at La Rustica for a Friday evening. We were promptly greeted and lead to our waiting table in a nice quiet corner.

Our server allowed us time to glance over the drink menus and promptly came over once we were ready to order. Following the drinks, came a fresh order of bread with oil & vinegar to dip (yum, yum!!)

My boyfriend ordered the procuitto wrapped cantaloupe to start(honestly did not appeal to me... nor did it to him after the first bite! Weird combination!!)

For the main, I ordered 'La Homard' (split lobster tails with grilled veggies & smoked salmon ravioli). The lobster was slightly over done, the veggies perfect and the smoked salmon ravioli was not good. I had one bite & I was done. I dont know what it was, but I could not eat the ravioli.

My boyfriend tried the 'Tricolore' which is 3 types of pasta in one dish. When the food arrived, it did not appear fresh at all. You can tell when something was plated immediately... this, definitely was not. He was not impressed.

Although the service was fantastic (we ended up each getting a complimentary shooter & 30% off both our meals & we have NO IDEA why... maybe we were talking louder than we thought about how disappointed we were???), it really doesn't matter when the food is mediocre. Needless to say, we were both quite disappointed and never plan to return.

I love Caffe de Medici...
Submitted Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - 3:09pm [Dine in]

We had quite an experience at Caffe de Medici! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on a Monday night. It truly did not disappoint in any way!

Food: To die for! I started out with the Torta di Granchio (crab cake), which was superb! The prawn & scallop situated on top was so yummy! My boyfriend had the Mozarella di Bufala (buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes & fresh basil), which was a light & refreshing start to the meal. For the mains, I had the Gamberi
alla Medici (prawns & scallops over smoked salmon with mascarpone risotto). I did find the risotto to be quite dense & extremely filling... maybe a little to rich for me. Overall, the dish was fantastic. My boyfriend had the Tortellini Stuffed Pasta which he said was THE BEST he has ever had! I have to admit, I stole a bite & thought it was a little piece of heaven!

Service: Exceptional! We loved our waiter Luka! He treated us like royalty (as did the other staff members who refilled water glasses & brought out new cutlery for our next indulgence). Very helpful with menu selections as well!

Ambiance: Absolutely loved it! They have an outdoor patio that isn't right off the street like Milestones or Cactus Club. You couldn't even tell Robson St was only feet away. It was nice & quiet. The inside of the restaurant is quite romantic, but very warm! We were glad to have been seated on the patio.

All in all, this was a wonderful experience & can't wait to go back!

I wasn't hungry again for 24hrs...
Submitted Thursday, June 29, 2006 - 12:20pm [Dine in]

Went here last Saturday afternoon for lunch as I was craving a big juicy hamburger. I was a tad disappointed though.

Ordered the organic beef burger with cheesy fries. The burger was a little on the dry side & I didn't care for the BBQ sauce on it, but I must say it was a solid piece of meat! The cheesy fries were nothing to brag about (I tasted them for about the next 8 hours). Ughh. Anyways, these burgers will fill you up for hours... I literally was not hungry until the next day.

Service was fantastic & the patio is great on a hot day!

Why is this place always empty??
Submitted Thursday, June 8, 2006 - 11:15am [Dine in]

Having read the previous reviews on this restaurant, I more than expected to see an empty restaurant... which we did. No biggie though... the food reviews are what kept me from walking out the door.

Service was fantastic (as it should be in an empty restaurant). The waitress was cheerful & upbeat.

The food was fantastic as well! My dinner partner & I ordered the Steamed Seafood Basket for 2, which included crab legs, prawns, scallops, mussels, veggies & rice wrapped in a mojito leaf). It was delicious!

We both would definitely return!

Should have been better...
Submitted Monday, May 15, 2006 - 12:14pm [Dine in]

I must say I was a little disappointed with the food here.

I ordered the herb & pine nut crusted Halibut with a twice baked potato & seasonal veggies. My b/f ordered the Prime Rib dinner. Although the food came out quite quickly, it was only luke warm, with cold veggies. The halibut was flavourless unless you had a bite with the herb & pine nuts. The baked potato was the best part, but you can cook that at home just the same. My b/f's Prime Rib was good (cooked medium which is a little to dry for me), but it had good flavour (surprisingly there was no au jus!!) & an amazing Yorkshire pudding.

All in all it was just an ok dinner (food wise). The service was great & the ambiance was lovely!!

Submitted Saturday, March 18, 2006 - 3:02am [Dine in]

Went here because I had an Entertainment coupon, otherwise, I probably would never have heard of this place!

The food was really good. I decided not to start with an appy as my appetitie is not big. Dinner rolls & whipped butter came free of charge, so I was more than happy to munch on that!

We receieved our 'semi' raw dinner, to cook (served on an EXTREMELY hot stone - - duh!!), so be CAREFUL!! But honestley it was a lot of fun to cook/heat up your food quickly, while casually chatting to your dinner partner. It was the best lobster I have had to date; but...I have never had 'fresh' lobster, so i can't technically compare ... I know, I know!! :(

Service was fantastic, ambiance was great! I will definitely be a returning customer!

Great pub food...
Submitted Thursday, March 2, 2006 - 12:41pm [Dine in]

I frequent Sportstown at least once a month for lunch. They have excellent food! I do need to be a little more open minded and try new things, but what I have tried (taco salad, chicken wings, & their homemade hamburger) have all been fantastic (especially the taco salad...better than any Mexican restaurant I've tried).

Service is good, food is even better!

I have been going to Mr. Mikes on & off for about 25 years. When I moved to Vancouver 10 years ago, I was disappointed to learn they didn't have one here :( Then to my surprise, I'm driving through Coquitlam & BAM....I see Mr. Mikes!! I know I shouldn't get so excited over food, but it's so good!

You have to try their Mike Burger --- to die for! They also have incredible steaks (comparable to great steakhouses)...all at extremely reasonable prices.

I do recommend checking this place out...I'm certain you won't be disappointed!

Submitted Sunday, February 26, 2006 - 1:32am [Dine in]

A friend & I dined here with an Entertainment Book Coupon.....WOW, were we impressed!

Service was top notch with friendly, knowledgable staff.

Food was good, but unfortunately unable to give it the full 5 stars. The menu is too small (only approx 1/2 dozen entrees to choose from....but plentiful appy selection). I ordered the halibut which was a little dry. My friend ordered the prime rib which was slightly on the fatty side, but still flavourful . The garlic mashed potatoes were absolutely out of this world!!!!

Beautiful ocean views (it's the only restaurant in White Rock situated oceanside). Awesome roof top patio!! I can't wait to check this place out in the summer.

Great little jazz band on Friday evenings!

I think the only reason I tried this place was because of the gift certificate I won. WOW, was it ever good!

We ordered the lobster in cream sauce which was absolutely to die for! I was not impressed by the lack of selection on their beer menu, but this is the kind of restaurant where somewhat 'classier' drinks are to be ordered.

Serive was great & the ambiance was good.

I have been going to Clancy's on and off for almost 10 years now. It's a great pub to hang with friends, have some drinks & good pub eats. Their chicken wings used to be amazing, but it's been a few years since I've had them so I'm not sure anymore.

The pub is quite large & boasts 2 pool tables at the back of the pub. The casino is also just steps away if you feel like doing a little gambling on your way out!

It's also know to be a great college hang out as it's across the street from Douglas College.

Extremely disappointing...
Submitted Monday, February 20, 2006 - 5:05pm [Dine in]

I went here with friends for my birthday on Saturday night. When we arrived our party was crammed into the centre of the restaurant right next to a higher bar-type table with super high chairs towering over us about a foot away. I literally felt like these people were sitting on top of us.

Service was great to begin with. Drinks came quickly, as did the appy's. I have to agree with the first review, there is way too much food on the menu to choose from!

After the main entrees were ordered (Salmon: just ok, Filet Mignon: good, potatoes/veggies cold!, pizza: ok, Pasta: bland) The thing that got me about the service was the complete unprofessionalism from the waitress. My friend ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo and it came with loaded with onions. Anyways, she lets the waitress know that she doesn't like onions and it does not state in their menu that it comes with onions. The waitress replies with a "Anytime you eat at a restaurant you must tell them that you don't want onions, no matter what dish you order. Onions are to be expected in every dish you order". Really? This is news to me! My friend then said, well it does not say that on your menu and I have never had Alfredo with onions at any other restaurant. The waitress then says, "WELL DON'T GET MAD AT ME!" (which she wasn't). The wing-nut waitress Darcy, (who by the way told us that this was her last night working because she got FIRED!) absolutely refused to go to kitchen and ask the staff to prepare a non-onion fettuccini alfredo. The only way this was happening was if she was willing to pay full price again. Finally after some bickering back and forth, the waitress says "Ok, I will be nice and pay for half of your new entree". WHAT? What kind of service is that? Needless to say, another dish was not ordered and we left very unhappy. It's really a shame, I had high hopes for this place, but Darcy ruined it for us.
