Anatoli Souvlaki5 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
A Wonderful Place to Celebrate
Submitted Tuesday, July 24, 2007 - 5:25am [Dine in]

I recently held my parents' 60th wedding anniversary at Anatoli Souvlaki and was impressed with the helpful advice in the planning stage and the quality and abundance of the food the evening of the celebration. The owner kindly set up the stage for the Celtic trio I had hired and reportedly was at the restaurant early morning, preparing a feast of starters that included calamari, Taztziki, Saganaki; followed by enormous platters of roasted lamb, chicken, salmon and prawns, rice, potatoes, and Greek salad. A member of the staff also ordered and picked up, from an outside bakery, a fresh fruit cake for dessert. The head waiter was especially conscientious and concerned that all enjoy themselves and checked with me throughout the evening regarding the timing of starters, dinner, champagne, and cake. He also stole my mother's heart by taking her arm and leading her down the stairs to the party (while the hostess escorted my father), and serving her festive-looking virgin martinis as she cannot tolerate alcohol. At the end of the evening many of the forty-five guests thanked me for a wonderful time, saying it was a perfect place to hold a party. We had our own private space downstairs. The food, especially the lamb, salmon, and Saganaki, were repeatedly praised. Though my parents are Irish, I think that the Greeks have much in common with the Irish: they are a kind, generous, fun-loving people who know how to throw a party. I whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant.
