Darby's Pub2001 MacDonald Street, Vancouver
Meh
Submitted Tuesday, September 22, 2009 - 12:03am [Dine in]

I come here for hockey games. I would probably never come here just for a meal or a place to hang out. The bar seems lifeless and desolate. The servers are surprisingly friendly, considering the number of weirdos who frequent the pub. I was able to find only one item on the menu that is somewhat tolerable. Otherwise, the menu is quite limited, overpriced, and not too pleasing to the tummy. I've seen way better pubs around here!

Not bad at all
Submitted Monday, September 21, 2009 - 11:59pm [Dine in]

No complaints about this place. They have a nice outdoor seating area and it feels like you're at peace with the scenery which slightly resembles the village of Whistler. There is a nice pleasing atmosphere that makes you feel energetic and thrilled about being there. The food was fine; the service was adequate; the prices were a bit steep; the electricity was ecstatic.

A great unique restaurant
Submitted Monday, September 21, 2009 - 11:46pm [Dine in]

I'm so lucky that I live close to this cool place. I've been here a few times and I've been most impressed with the meals I had for both lunch and dinner. A retro-looking restaurant which plays oldies music really sets you in the mood to have a good time. I've never tried their brunch, partly because the lineup is so long.

If you want something different and you're feeling kind of down, come here and I'd be really surprised if you leave disappointed and still feeling blue.

The lamb made me drool
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 12:43am [Dine in]

I've been here only a few times, but that's all I need to safely say that the food here is nothing short of incredible. I've had lamb each time because I could not resist. It's just so damn good. The lamb is so tender, juicy, tasty, and it goes so perfectly well with the rest of the goodies they serve: rice, potatoes, greek salad, vegetables, and bread. All of this for less than $10 (assuming that you drink only water which what I do).

I always leave there stuffed to the nines, but I am oh so satisfied with my meal. Whatever shortfalls this place has can easily be overlooked and/or compensated by its food. I cannot think of any other place to have great Greek food like this at such a reasonable price! I'll come here again and again until I am proved wrongly.

Meh - But sometimes decent for hockey games
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 12:28am [Dine in]

This place is hit or miss for all of the above categories. I've been there many, many times because of hockey. If they open up the upstairs, this place rocks for watching hockey. Otherwise, this place is just your sub-par restaurant with snobby waitresses and unpredictable food. I've noticed that the male servers are way friendlier than the ladies...why?? The only half-decent dish that this restaurant serves is the Ginger Fried Rice, otherwise you might as well pick red or black at the roulette wheel.

This Earl's needs improvement
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 12:21am [Dine in]

This Earl's did not impress me at all. A crummy, congested restaurant that feels muggy even in the cooler months is not my cup of tea. It seems that if you are not up to the waitresses' standards - i.e. rich guy with a six-pack and lives on the top floor penthouse in downtown - then you don't exist in this restaurant. The servers always look flustered and seem annoyed when you order food; why else would we be there? The food is less than appealing as well!

Please just come here for the view only
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 12:16am [Dine in]

You end paying an arm in a leg for even just a small dinner and a glass of water, so make sure you've already eaten before you come here next time. Obviously, having a panoramic view of the world's most beautiful city makes this place attractive. It's too bad that the food and service don't even come close to matching the vistas the restaurant offers. If I pay $40-50 for a dinner (w/out dessert and drinks), I expect a decent meal and for me to be satiated when I leave. Boy was I wrong! I find more satisfaction in a banana than I do with the food in this place.

Pretty looking restaurant
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 12:10am [Dine in]

This is the nicest restaurant that I've ever seen. It's also a great place to watch the hockey game as they play with full volume and they bring down the big screen. But much like the other Earl's restaurants, the food is pricey and a bit dicey. The service here isn't quite as good as the other places, probably because this place is always sooo busy!

I live close to this Earl's
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 12:05am [Dine in]

So I visit this Earl's more often than the other ones. It is certainly known for its service, whether the friendly and chatty waitresses are genuine or tainted, it doesn't matter because they are doing their job correctly. The food isn't too bad, but it is quite expensive. I think you basically pay for the atmosphere. The restaurant is quite nice looking, but always quite noisy and crowded as well.

It's Ok
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 11:59pm [Dine in]

I've had better and I've had worse. They said it was a 50s style restaurant, and yet, all I heard was Beatles' songs....hmmmmmmm. It is a cool looking restaurant, though. If they get their music up to speed, I would think that I was set off on a time machine back to the 1950s.
There is nothing spectacular about the breakfasts. It was quite cheap, however, so you get what you pay for I suppose.

Hit or Miss
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 11:34pm [Dine in]

I've probably been here about 7 or 8 times. About 5 of the 8 times involved lousy food. It has much to offer and the prices are quite reasonable, but the food can be very bland, dry, and/or served in small portions. The place isn't horrendous; I would still try it again if someone twisted my arm, but I still wouldn't recommend it to others. There are so many other great Asian restaurants around, so this should be a last resort.

What do you expect from a cafeteria
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 11:29pm [Dine in]

There was nothing overly special about the food; it's cafeteria style. However, it's incredibly cheap and it does fill you up if you order the right food. The Swedish meatballs and the potatoes are a shoe-in and they are available at a great deal. What other restaurant offers dinners below $7.00 or breakfasts for $2.00? Exactly!! To make top-notch food at huge masses is quite difficult. So if you want fine, top-quality, authentic cuisine food, go to some other place and pay a hell of a lot more!

Great Place to Watch Hockey
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

Next to watching the game live, this is probably the best place to watch hockey. Great atmosphere and noisy die-hard fans come here to cheer on their team. The service isn't very good, but the ambience and the experience you get from watching the game sure make up for it. The food is OK as well.

I've come to this place only when a hockey game is on, so I cannot rate this restaurant on your average day with no game on nor can I just isolate a category such as the quaility of the food because I'm always glued to the hockey game!

Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 6:47pm [Dine in]

My roommate and I were quite pleased with this place. The service was less than spectacular to say the least, but boy can they ever feed you. Incredible selection of food and I like how we can cook the meat ourselves. I'd take a group of friends here in a heartbeat. Pretty decent restaurant. You might want to come early though because this place fills up in a hurry.

Bad Service and food
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 6:33pm [Dine in]

My sister took me here because she used to like this restaurant. By the time our meal was 1/4 finished, she was apologizing profusely for taking me there. The pasta was as dry as sand, the ambience was loud and the staff looked grubby and dirty, and the service...well, we didn't tip for probably the first time ever. Don't ever come here!

Probably the No. 1 White Spot in town
Submitted Saturday, September 19, 2009 - 6:29pm [Dine in]

Haven't been disappointed yet, and I've been to a number of White Spots in Greater Vancouver. I love the CBC, which is the only thing I'll actually eat. But if it's really good, why screw up a good thing? This White Spot seems to get my order just the way I like it. I've taken my friends to this location, even though they aren't fans of White Spot, and they seem to like it as well.
