Finally, a long promised get together with friends over diner the Latin Quarter. Would I go back.....never! The total bill was over $400.00 which included an automatic %15 gratuity for tables of 6 or more..absolutely unjustifiable considering the poor food quality and mediocre food service.
The appetizers were the best part of the meal. In particular chicken drumsticks and chicken livers.
Entrees included curried pasta, rabbit, seafood hotpot and paella for two. The pasta curry at $18.95 was an inexpensive grade of penne with the texture of cardboard and swimming in a soupy, curry broth that brought back memories of my Mother's Nabob curry dishes, 1950 vintage (sorry Mom). The rabbit dish was tough and the taste of rabbit was lost to the over powering flavor of the sauce. The seafood hot pot contained clams, mussels and scallops in sauce. Shellfish need to be fresh or fresh frozen to be good. The scallops in this dish were fishy tasting because they were dated and ruined the dish. Paella traditionally may be meat, seafood or a mix. Difficult to tell what this was as there was no chicken (normally used in paella) and little seafood. The rice was glutinous and vegetable sparse as well. Way overpriced at $45.00 per couple.
We had reservation for 7:30 and by 9:00 pm you had to yell across the table to have a conversation. Not a pleasant dining experience at all.
