First time trying Afghan food, not the last....
Submitted Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 7:20pm [Dine in]

I went to this restaurant a few weeks back to celebrate the birthday of a dear friend and really enjoyed the whole experience, from sitting on the floor, to the food, to the entertainment. We (hubby and I) had never eaten Afghan food before and were pleasantly surprised. It seems to be a mix of Middle Eastern and Indian/Pakistani. Sitting on cushions on the floor was a first, and not uncomfortable at all. We had potato pakoras to start and shared a mixed grill platter. We didn't have space for dessert but the starters and mains were excellent. The entertainment took the form of a belly dancer which spiced up the evening.

Excellent food and service

I ate at this establishment about a year ago with my then fiance (now hubby). The waiter was helpful and attentive and the food amazing. I had a salad to start and then a main course of halibut with a sauce of black lentils. I had never tasted anything quite so delicious! I recall a chocolate mousse dessert. The presentation, in addition to the taste of the food was outstanding.

Samosa Garden Restaurant3502 Kingsway, Vancouver
Good samosas but terrible service
Submitted Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

I have been to this place a couple of times as others are always banging on about it. Both times, I had the same experiences. The service is APPALLING. It seems that they only have 1 server who cleary can't serve everyone. Unless you order the buffet, it takes forever to be served. The samosas are very good and tasty with the fillings be well seasoned and spiced. The tandoori chicken, though is the worst I have ever eaten in my life and I would recommend staying well away from it. I do not think that I will be returning.

Nice afternoon tea
Submitted Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 6:57pm [Dine in]

I had the high tea at this establishment with "the girls" a few months ago. Having tried afternoon teas at a few places around the world I definitely enjoyed the tea on offer. A variety of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, and little cakes was served on a typical 3 tiered cake stand. The tea was filling - all of us took home "doggy bags"! There was quite a variety of tea on offer but it was oddly served in cafetieres instead of the customary tea pots! It was in essence an enjoyable afternoon.
