Sushi with a Smile
Submitted Tuesday, February 20, 2007 - 11:01am [Dine in]

Great little sushi bar with decent food, medium-sized portions and very friendly service by owners--Jennifer and Newman. A wonderful place or a cheap meal that comes with tea, miso soup and a welcoming smile. Always our first choice in Davietown.

Coffee fascists invade left-leaning Drive
Submitted Tuesday, February 20, 2007 - 10:51am [Dine in]

My girlfriend and I visited B & G recently and were also refused hot water for our grainy coffee. It was more the arrogance of the staff that made us bitter and decide never to go back more than the actual taste of the coffee. They seem determined to impose their idea of what makes a good latte or cappuccino on the rest of us rustic, uneducated Maxwell House drinkers. In reference to the previous "enlightened" poster's comments, with coffee, wine or anything you like to ingest, one taste does not satisfy all. Hence the plethora of roasts and blends that has surfaced in our local coffee scene. My girlfriend and I don't patronize Starbucks and frequent independent cafes from Sardinia to Cusco, most of which have more coffee finesse and history than B & G, and, incidentally, have always been open to enhancing our coffee-drinking experience. If B & G was indeed proud of their coffee, perhaps they should have given us our money back instead of sniffing at us before snapping closed the til.

Interesting Place

Good-tasting food. Interesting menu. Homey with friendly service. Lovely owner--very personable. Outrageous prices for the "Japanese pancake" will ensure I won't return, unfortunately. Maybe the rent's too high. If you're not concerned about cost, great place to dine.

Indecent Service
Submitted Thursday, December 21, 2006 - 11:05am [Dine in]

Complaint about a salmon burger resulted in rudeness at Davie St. location. Feedback to manager fell on deaf ears. Strange how this restaurant feels it's unecessary to pay attention to its customers. I will never dine here again. They've lost hundreds in revenue over a $10 burger. Odd business etiquette.

Restaurant Owner Puts a Damper on Meal
Submitted Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 2:58pm [Dine in]

Decent food; friendly server who always knows our order; its's the owner that needs to be avoided. I once brought his attention to an unsanitary practice of one of his staff and he's snubbed me ever since. Never a hello; never a thanks, come back again. If it wasn't that we're spending $10 on an at-least-tasty meal for two from coupons and have a good sense of humour, I'd give my coin to someone who isn't such a prima donna and who actually cares about someone other than himself. No wonder he's got the reputation he has.

Should be called George's Vacuum-packed Pasta Restaurant
Submitted Monday, May 22, 2006 - 9:08pm [Dine in]

First time to George's in years. I'm not sure I quite get it. The place has a good reputation. The pizza must be great because the pastas we had on Monday pasta's night tasted fresh out of a pack. Olivieri's apparently, though the sauce was reported to be home made. Such a disappointment. I could have saved a few bucks and asked people home for dinner instead of making the trip for hohum penne and too loud Whitney Houston bellowing above the restaurant din.
