Maybe I'm a little biased. After having visited Pan African Market down in Seattle, I came back to Vancouver looking for something similar. Afro Canadian wasn't bad per se; It just wasn't good in any outstanding way. The portion sizes were fantastic and the food was decent. If you're in the area and that's what you're looking for, by all means. If elsewhere and specifically looking for good African food, Fassil is probably a better bet.
I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about regarding the service, as myself and my party of 4 were seated, served and finished all in good time. The food was delicious and prompt. My only concern was that the waiter didn't return to refill our water throughout the meal. Minor issue in what was overall a pleasant experience.
I loved Nuba before it moved: it was small, friendly and the food was prepared in front of you with care. The new Nuba only shares the name and the menu, it seems. I've found the service horribly lacking from where it once was and the quality of food has dropped considerably. I get that they wanted a bigger place; I just don't see why they had to deviate so far from what was working.
Radha's always a treat. The food never disappoints, the service is consistently on par and the atmosphere is worth soaking in. I suppose my only complaint would be the amount of food you get for your dollar is a little high, but it's usually well worth it anyway. If you're looking for a new vegan restaurant and you haven't tried Radha, go now.
I'm still curious as to why the Naam is so popular. The food is okay, but not great. The atmosphere is cozy, but cramped. The service is just sub-par. *shrugs*
It provides a reasonable amount of variety in the vegetarian category, I suppose. Still, I've never really left the Naam thinking "I'm glad I just ate there".
The food is a touch spicer than I'm used to, but it was still well worth it. The waiter was more than accommodating when it came to pointing out which dishes were vegan. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired as it's pretty much just one big open room, but if you're just interested in the food, Saravana will do you just fine.
I suppose I must have had a different server than the previous vegan poster, as I found mine quite friendly and helpful. She pointed out which meals were vegan friendly and which ones could be modified to accommodate.
The food is pricier than I'm used to, but the portion sizes are quite large too. Splitting a $20 plate between two people is a surprisingly pleasant experience. I've been there three times now and have yet to regret going there.
