Burgoo3 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
Cute, delicious little place
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:35pm [Dine in]

Want outstanding comfort food every time? I always hit Burgoo. Just an awesome little joint for Soup and Sandwich. Everything I've tried I've really enjoyed, and the staff have a smile on their face and recognized me quickly. It took me a while to find a place that made food like Mom used to for lunch, but with the flare of a chef. This is now the place I wish I could hit every single day for lunch or dinner.

Great place to go before heading downtown for a hockey game or concert too! Right by the Seabus and near parking :)

Hard to review... it changes monthly

I've had some great nights and meals here, and some terrible ones. The staff have been polite some nights and disinterested others.

Their calamari is great, as are their fish and chips. Their pizzas are pretty average but their beer (Red Truck is brewed in house!) is solid. Prices are standard pub-food, and later in the night it's a good party location for young and old crowds. They do take in large groups very well.

Overal, you might have an awesome meal, or an all-together forgetable one. I will say though, in the summer the patio is always great.

Too heavy, too expensive and no coffee?
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:28pm [Take-out]

Who wants a mid-afternoon cupcake break without a cup of coffee? Is that for real?

The prices make me laugh, the girls who worked there range from being quite lovely to all together rude so it's hit or miss. The fact that they have a TV show has carried them much further than they deserve. I went a half dozen times when I first discovered them, but everyone has lost interest as the variety and consistency just isn't there.

On a personal note, I'd be surprised if they see 2013.

Woon Lee Inn3751 Delbrook Ave, North Vancouver
BEST Chinese food on the North Shore
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:25pm [Take-out]

I've tried every Chinese food place within a 30 minute drive and there's none as good as Woon Lee. The ginger beef, chop suey, and sweet and sour pork are Friday night staples. I adore this place's prices, and they nail every one of your favorite american chinese food dishes. It's always hot, crispy, fresh and well spiced/seasoned.

We have been eating here for DECADES now and won't change. The huge leftovers from a very reasonably priced meals make the family happy

Some of the best Thai food, not great prices
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:23pm [Dine in]

I LOVE this thai restaurant. The pad thai and panang curry are delicious, and I always try new things which are as good as the last dish. It's got a very clean modern feel and the ambiance is lovely, especially compared to other Thai places. The one negative would be the portion sizes... I find that there are usually little in the way of leftovers after a fairly expensive meal, which I'm used to having at other similar restaurants. If that changed, I'd eat here every week and spend far more $$ on them!! *hint hint*

Always a great meal
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:20pm [Dine in]

I love this location. The staff is great, the food is always perfect. The thing is, I never have ANY problems. This a great go-to easy dinner out. It's quick, but never rushed, and in the summer the patio is so relaxing.

Earls recently started baking their own bread and pizza doe and that has made a huge difference. There's a chicken sandwich with brie... I think I need it tonight.

Tap House, TheMain Street, West Vancouver
Decent, but seems to be declining
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:18pm [Dine in]

I love the Taphouse for the great beer selection, and awesome menu. The food choices are great, the Nachos outstanding and the Clubhouse is one of my favorite (I'm addicted to the orange-cranberry mayo)

However, on my most recent visit my favorite dish (the Clubhouse) had been reduced to a platter sized plate, the portion of fries cut in half and the lettuce replacing the turkey and bacon to a rediculous degree. I was unimpressed, further compounded by the incompitence of the waitress and the soggy cold fries. The prices didn't change, and unlike usual I left still hungry and just as out of pocket as usual (the price did not decrease with the smaller, less attractive portion)

I've sent many friends here to try the menu and beer, but I won't be recommending anyone any longer. That last visit was depression....

Sushi Town1227 Marine Drive, North Vancouver
Trying to be something they're not
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:14pm [Dine in]

Sushi Town has the feel of a bistro, and the service of a fast food joint. I've visited 5 times now and probably sat an average of 10 minutes waiting for service each time. The waiters speak poor English and make mistakes, never attend their customers once food is delivered and don't bring the cheque around at any point unless you physically get up. The food is nothing special, and not as good as the cheaper faster places around it. Several times it has been overly satly or cold. There is a bar right at the entrance that is still incomplete. Why?! You have been open a couple years now correct?

Don't waste your time and money. There are many other places better and friendlier.

GREAT bang for you buck
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:11pm [Take-out]

I think I have to be one of the biggest loves of cheap sushi out there. I don't feel that you need to pay huge money for great rice and fish. Ika Sushi is proof positive. Their lunch special - 3 rolls for $6.95 isn't beat anywhere else on the north shore. The portions are huge, it's fast, and always fresh and delicous. There's a reason this place is always a bee-hive of activity. It's one of the best sushi places around

Delany's Coffee House3099 Edgemont Boulevard, North Vancouver
Great goodies, brutal service
Submitted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 - 2:08pm [Dine in]

I'ved lived in Edgemont Village for several years and was a fairly frequent patron of Delany's. Their baked goods are outstanding, their specialty coffees are great. Their brewed house blend coffees are bitter and burnt but usually better than Starbucks

Unfortunately, their biggest issue is customer service. From the new faces right up to the season staff, their body language is dreadful and their attitude seems little better. There is hardly a single employee at the Edgemont location who is consistantly polite or who makes me feel welcome. It's well known around the village, everyone knows this but it's inexcusable. Their one major draw over Starbucks should be their customer service but it simply isn't. They desparately need to work on this.
