Cafe O322 Davie St, Vancouver
Great spot to sip coffee & people watch.
Submitted Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 1:49am [Dine in]

I've been having coffee at the Cafe O, for a few years, and when I have time, will enjoy my Americano and people watch.

Its not a large location, cozy, with big windows, high ceiling and attached to the Opus Hotel. I find the staff friendly, and they offer a variety of baked goods. I like this location, but think they may have lost business with the construction outside and wasn't too busy in the afternoon.

If you want to read a newspaper, meet friends or enjoy your morning coffee, this is a great place to relax.

Check it out, when you're in the area.

Order your Soup in or have take out.
Submitted Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 1:37am [Dine in]

I was doing errands in Yaletown, when I wanted to have a healthy snack on a cold day. I was walking pass this place, I thought it look like a good place to try some soup.

Its not a large location, seats are cluttered with papers and dishes were scattered on various tables. When I decided to eat in, I actually ate my soup outside under the covered area by the doors.

I had ordered Mushroom soup, it was tasty, lots of garlic, mushroom, but I'm use to thickness and it was a bit on the watery side. Yaletown Soups, you can order a variety of soups, small or large and if you feel like a sandwich, they did look good, but next time, I'll try it.

The service was average, somewhat friendly, and I think when its lunch time, it can get busy quickly, due to this little location.

Soup is good, I will have to try it again and with a sandwhich next time.

Delicious Meal
Submitted Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 7:35pm [Dine in]

I decided to check out this place, once to eat in and a few days later take out. What I notice was how friendly the service was and offered suggestions with my meal.

I had the lunch special, spinach with peanut sauce with Chicken and Thai Spring Rolls and both where delicious and filling. I like it so much, I went back for take out a few days later.
They have great lunch specials and it wasn't that expensive, and will be back again, to try something else on their menu.

I like this new location.
Submitted Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 10:55pm [Dine in]

I was happy to see this new Urban Fare open and decided to check it out. This Urban Fare is similiar to their other locations, except its layout is better, with spacious area to check out the daily choices. I truly like how they added soup, salad counter and if you want a choice of Pizza or have a sandwich made, its in this location, catering to your request.

This place is new, service is top notch, it will draw many of the businesses near by and the hotel, when open. Its got an edge and the food has flaire, and I was amazed how great it tasted.
I had order their beef and picked potatoes, rice, corn and salad and its based on weight. I sat down in their seating area, had tried their beef and was amazed how tender it and enjoyed my meal.

The ambiance is similiar to all Urban fare, service is friendly, and this store been open for a week, so if you need something, the staff will go out their way to find answer.

Will be back.

Great neighbourhood spot
Submitted Thursday, November 20, 2008 - 7:46pm [Dine in]

I was walking pass Gambrinus, when I decided to check out their location for dinner. I was greeted by my server, who I think was the owner, and was definately knowledgeable.
I like how you felt, relaxed, comfortable, with a great collection of music playing. Its not cluttered, the tables are placed far enough away and you get to dine without feeling you're bothering anyone. It makes a nice spot to have a date or share a meal with friends.
I ordered their pasta, I hear they have a pasta deal on Tuesday, must check it out soon. It was fantastic, I had meaty linguine with meatballs and I couldn't finish my dish, and have my lunch for the next work day. I thought I could finish it, but there was more than I thought, and the sauce, meat, linguine, garlic had lots of flavour and It didn't take long for me to get full.
I did save room for this great Chocolate fill dessert that was white and dark chocolate mousse. Save room, its rich, light and loved how it tasted. Glad I walked home to burn off my meal.
This is a nice spot to eat for dinner, and I will be back.

Recommend.

Service & what food?
Submitted Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 7:26pm [Dine in]

I decided to order in, check it out, only wishing I read the reviews before walking in. I glance around, noticed the booth they gave me, had a rip in it, and started feeling it wasn't that clean.

The service is poor and this young lady lacked english & wasn't too sure what I had asked for on the menu. The other person, may have been the manager, translated and walked away annoyed. I was waiting for about 30 minutes, wasn't that busy for my food, and my food arrived cold. I looked at my non existant Won Ton Soup with only broth and cold, I tried to get my server, until the next dish arrived. This young lady, was flustered, & the rudeness of this manager helping her, insisting I didn't want Won Ton and only broth.

The service is bad, and left only paying for one dish, it took time for the manager to finally agree not to charge me for a soup that wasn't what I wanted.

Won't be back.

Nice Dinner
Submitted Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 10:27pm [Dine in]

It's been a couple of years that I've been to Kettle of Fish, and I wasn't disappointed by my meal or the service. I was greeted by a friendly hostess, it wasn't a busy night and was sitting next to the window.

I ordered the Salt Spring Muscles, in this amazing sauce with several muscles and fresh hot bread ahead of my meal. I wasn't disappointed with over a dozen Muscles and it was enough to fill me up. I had ordered Creme Brule, that the first taste exploded with flavour and continued throughout each bite.
My meal was simple, didn't order any appetizers, wanted to enjoy my main meal and I felt I ate the right amount.

I don't think this spot is a tourist trap, it does cater to locals as well a visitors and they did a great job tonight.

We'll be back to try the whole crab. Nice night with enjoyable meal.

The smell of fresh baking bread.
Submitted Monday, November 10, 2008 - 5:59pm [Dine in]

I came into Burnaby, knowing this bakery and picked up fresh portuguese buns and rolls. I love the smell of fresh bread baking, and they had warm rolls and that lead me to other items. It can be hard to restrain yourself, due to everything looking & smelling good, you could walk out with more than you planned to buy.

I walked in at a good time, not too busy, which this place is very popular any day of the week.

I will be back.

Enjoyable Italian coffee house
Submitted Monday, November 10, 2008 - 5:47pm [Dine in]

I was wanting decent coffee and decided to stop in to Paradise. My experience was positive, being greeted by friendly & happy servers that made you a part of their extended family.

I loved the music, fantastic sound system, and all the TV surrounding their tables with artwork to italian decorum. As you walk in, you will see stuff tiger, which made me laugh, that started a fun conversation with the staff. I could easily people watch at the windows, read a book, have a great coffee date or watch TV, as you enjoy their Coffee.

I had ordered Americano, fresh, full of flavour and aroma made the taste that more enjoyable. I will have to return to try their baked goods or their gelato, as I enjoy this place. I will be back soon.

Disappointing.
Submitted Monday, November 10, 2008 - 5:25pm [Dine in]

I was in Burnaby, hungry for sushi, and wanted to return to Akari. I haven't been here for awhile and was looking forward to some decent sushi.

I had ordered their tea & 3 menu combo for $8.99, I picked Chicken Teriyaki, Salmon & Tuna rolls with rice & Salad. I was very disappoinged in the Chicken Teriyaki, it wasn't cooked properly, raw in the middle of each piece, and didn't eat anymore after my first bite. I definately like the Salmon & Tuna roll, fresh, lots of flavour and thought it was good. I had left overs and brought home the remaining sushi, due to my appetite being lost after trying the chicken.

My server wasn't too friendly, she even got irrated by some children that walked pass her and didn't seem to be having a good day.

With many other sushi places around, I was disappointed with my experience and won't be back.

Breakfast all day
Submitted Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 8:45pm [Dine in]

I like their breakfast so much, I returned 3 times in one week. I love how you can eat at their kiosk or around the market, enjoying the view, their really good coffee and breakfast. I found the service can be slow when taking orders, it could be 1 or 2 behind the counter, busy preparing meals and taking your orders.
The coffee is what brought me back each time, its very good and love how it taste. If you're wanting breakfast, coffee of your choice or something to snack, this is a great spot to check out.
Will be back.

Take Out
Submitted Wednesday, October 29, 2008 - 11:57pm [Dine in]

I had been out of town when I got back to North Van, and being super hungry, I thought I would give them a try.

I ordered to go, 2 tuna, 2 salmon nigiri, 2 prawn ebi, california roll and Futomaki, instead he mad me tuna roll. Although 1 of my orders were wrong, I found the food was fresh, but lack flavour and tasted the same. I wish I read Chasiubow review, before walking in, and I agree with what was written.

The service was friendly, the waitress wasn't too organized and my food arrived quickly. My sushi filled me up, but with so many other Sushi places to explore, I'm not in any rush to return.

Hold the butter, please.
Submitted Monday, October 20, 2008 - 8:33pm [Dine in]

I decided to have breakfast and when I walked in, it wasn't very busy at 9am.
When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly hostess, and my server was quick to arrive.
I decided on my order and wanted two eggs, multigrain toast, hashbrown and coffee. My server was attentive, and would come by throughout the meal to check, if I needed anything.
I found my breakfast was loaded with butter, my toast, was soggy & lost its appeal to eat. I did eat my egg's which where good, and could only eat a small portion of my hashbrown.
I was surprised for a hotel location, this spot wasn't busy, this may explain why the chef wanting to "spread" his talents with too much butter.
I doubt I will be back.

Too Loud to have a conversation.
Submitted Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 12:19am [Dine in]

My friend and I decided to meet for a early dinner, and decided to try this new location.

What we both noticed, was the large windows, two level to eat and lots of space, and how it looks inside. Don't let this fool you, as my friend and I tried to share a conversation, we both had a hard time hearing one another, often saying, please repeat. If you plan to have romantic dinner or business lunch, this may not be the spot to be properly heard. It get's annoying the loudness of this place, the ambiance looses it appeal and you want to run somewhere quiet.

The bathrooms, are stylish as the other locations, West Van, and definately modern, with TV's in each stall and luxury.

My server was nice, friendly and due to the design of the place, servers repeat going up & down stairs with food and I was amazed no one dropped anything.

We shared spinach dip, had fish taco and chicken wings, and my friend reported the fish taco's to be interesting & good. I don't think she would order it again, but was happy to try it. My chicken wings were typically messy, and got lots of napkins to clean my hands.

When our meal was over, we paid our bill, and when we got outside, the silence of not hearing loud echo's was welcome relief. Would I go back to this location, I doubt it. Its just too loud to relax or have a nice conversation without feeling you need to shout.

Vera's Burger Shack1842 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver
New Location
Submitted Monday, October 13, 2008 - 3:35pm [Dine in]

I was thrilled to see Vera's Burger on Lonsdale, and decided to check it out.

I was greeted at the counter by a very friendly server, who helped me with my order. I decided on nothing fancy, simple & easy, cheese burger with pop, and was told it would take about 10 minutes.
Seating is limited at this location, I got the impression, this location will be doing alot take out orders.
My server called out my name, and sat down to enjoy my cheese burger. It was a bit uneven when they put my burget together, but as long as it was cooked, fresh and tasted great, which it did, was all worth it. My burget was juicy, tasted great and glad to see another location, especially in North Vancouver. Cost of my burger & beverage was under $9.00.

Recommend, when you're wanting fresh burgers.

Different lunch experience.
Submitted Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 2:29am [Dine in]

I decided to try Okra for lunch, and I can't say I loved it or dislike it. What I liked, was my server, she was friendly, polite and interested in how you like your meal. I liked her input and took her suggestions, and found the food was interesting.

I tried the spring roll, and ordered the lamb shank on special for $9.99. I found the food on slightly spicey and I don't go near hot or spicey food. I found the spring roll was crisp, but eating it, I felt the spices made it too hot for me. At this point, I felt my lips & mouth losing sensation, but determined to continue, and be brave for the next course.
The Lamb shank was incredibly tender, you didn't have to use a knife, fell off the bone. That was the best part of the meal, and felt for me, the meal was on the spicey side and thought they the vegetables where over cooked. I felt the dish was okay, but since I don't eat spicey or hot foods, I can't say it was my type of place to eat.
I was stuffed at the end of the meal, and my server was great to have around, and felt bad that I wasn't into eating hot foods.
I doubt I will return to experiment with the menu, but it was worth trying once.

I was here last Friday, and noticed they renovated with improved menu. My server was friendly, helpful and even let me order a few dishes off the menu.

I had Gai lan in garlic, chicken & black bean sauce with rice and spring roll. My meal was fresh, delicious, ingredients & food complimented one another and had left overs for work. I loved how my server continued to fill my tea cup, with friendly conversation, and definately will return.

Don't blink, was that my server?
Submitted Wednesday, October 8, 2008 - 10:30pm [Dine in]

I went to sushi man after work, it wasn't very busy at 7.30pm and decided to try it again.

I found if the server moved any faster, he would have broken the sound barrier and my hair would be blowing in the wind. The service was faster than two bunny rabbits, and lacked warmth, small chat and even caring how much I loved their smoked salmon nigiri. The faster my server moved to get me fed, the stop watch was ticking, and you could see in his head, "you're late, you're late" we need to get you moving.

I truly tried to enjoy my sushi, I wanted to have more smoked salmon nigiri, the other sushi was hard to enjoy. When I tried to talk to my server, it wasn't fast enough, since I took a breath.

If you're looking for cheap, semi decent sushi, with lightning super sonice speedy service, then its a spot you won't want to miss anytime soon.

Cheesecake & Coffee.
Submitted Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - 6:42pm [Dine in]

I wanted to try another coffee place and stumble across this spot. Its been here for awhile and thought I would give it a try.

I had notice they had a variety of cheesecakes, seeing article voted the best in the city, how can anyone resist. I found the service was friendly, and ordered the Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake to go, wasn't hungry early in the morning for anything sweet.

I sat down to drink my coffee, smooth with a nice aroma, and I must have missed the rush, found it to be relaxing. When I got home, I was ready for the cheesecake, it was moist, fresh with a nice taste to it. I was glad I took it home, since it was on the rich side and took a couple of days to eat it. The slice was large, and I plan to go back again to enjoy another piece of Cheesecake and Coffee.

Submitted Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - 6:33pm [Dine in]

I was craving something sweet, I was heading home after work, when I decided to check out Sinclair Center food court.

The Ambiance is typical of any food court but I found the service was friendly, helpful and watched him create my sweet crepe. I had asked for ice cream with strawberry with chocolate, and did this tasty treat hit the spot. I thought it was great, its not often I have crepes but I loved the freshness and the quality. Chocolate never hurts either, I'm still licking my lips.

My crepe was over $7.00, but when you want a treat, I recommend it when you're in the area.
