Hearty Breakfast
Submitted Saturday, May 16, 2009 - 2:09am [Dine in]

I finally tried this location, it was busy and I saw many servers moving at a fast pace. My server was busy, a bit forgetful, & never check if I needed more coffee or got me the water I requested.

I like the mushroom omlette, with hashbrown and toast. I was full for the entire day, and left satisfied.

I prefer the Denman location, friendlier service, calmer environment and you see more residents than tourist at that location.

Food is good here, but if you want attentive service, try Denman Joe Grill.

Disappointing.
Submitted Monday, May 11, 2009 - 8:46pm [Dine in]

I wish I read the reviews before coming in here, and would have kept walking to a decent sushi location.
The male server was annoying & obnoxious and thought he was funny, when he wasn't to anyone. I decided to order Assorted sushi A, 2 tuna, 2 salmon nigiri, 2 ebi and california roll. I added half order of futomaki. My food arrived on a long dish, from the start, I didn't like the rice, nor my salmon or tuna, it just didn't taste right. When I tried the california roll and futomaki, the taste was off, and decided to stop eating and have the rest of my food to go.
I wish I could like this place, being 2 months old, but the food suck along with this annoying server.

Lots of choices out there, I won't be back, can't recommend.

Anton's Pasta Bar4260 E Hastings Street, Burnaby
No waiting after 2pm
Submitted Saturday, May 9, 2009 - 6:15pm [Dine in]

When I eat at Anton's, I learned along time ago, to avoid the line up's from the lunch/dinner crowd, go after 2pm or 8.30pm. The place isn't all that fancy, lots of tables, servers to move you along and your food arrives quickly.

My server was friendly, she kept inquiring if I needed anything, and made the effort. My linquini bolgenese with meatballs arrived, thinking as many times before, I can finish this...wrong. I have left overs for a couple of meals and was full before I knew it.

Antons when I arrived was after 3pm on Saturday, not very busy, no line up's and service was very quick. When I left, Antons still wasn't busy and I'm sure many people will wait in line as usual. I cannot figure out why people line up for some places, I would rather go, when its not busy or another day.

My pasta dish was good, I'll be back for a late time meal.

Delicious Sushi in Yaletown.
Submitted Friday, May 8, 2009 - 1:47am [Dine in]

I was walking in Yaletown, wanting to have sushi, when I spotted this place. The reviews after I tried this place, are accurate, and was impressed with this location.

I was greeted by a friendly server, who walked with me to my table, and handed me the menu. The music was great, nice to listen to jazz, and like the patrons that either ate in or pick up their sushi. Its not a large place to eat, organized, and clean from what I could tell.

I ordered 2 Salmon, 2 Tuna nigiri, 2 ebi with avacado roll. The salmon, tuna, ebi had lots of flavour, cold, fresh and loved the taste. I was impressed with the avacado roll and wish I could order more, but I was full. My meal with my soft drink came to $12.00, before tip, and I felt it was worth the price.

When I'm wanting sushi in Yaletown, I plan to return. Highly recommend when you're in the area. Will be back.

Can you say Thin Pizza
Submitted Wednesday, May 6, 2009 - 9:21pm [Dine in]

I wanted pizza tonight, regret walking into Rebellious for a disappointing, super thin Pizza with hardly any toppings. I get the idea about our health, but when you eat a pizza, I want the toppings I ask for and not super super skinny pizza.
My no caloric, thin wheat pizza had chicken, mushrooms, zuchinni and mozzerella cheese. I counted on my 4 slices 6 zuchinni slices, 5 mushrooms on each slice and hardly any cheese. This would make a mouse cry, and retreat back into the streets and If I delivered this pizza to anyone's home, I could slide it under the door.
The service was unfriendly, she was barely audible and never gave me any eye contact. The place was scattered with newspapers, magazines and when was the last time they mop or sweeped the floor.
I should have gone to Westview for my pizza, I think I missed the concept of healthy ultra skinny pizza.
I doubt I will be back anytime soon, with so many other choices, this is one pizza we should keep walking pass.

Not recommened, even if you're hungry.

Great Soups.
Submitted Tuesday, May 5, 2009 - 6:57pm [Dine in]

I love this place in the Market, the Soup's are fresh, and love their seafood soup's. Each day they have a variety of soup's made, usually one of them will be seafood and will supply their fresh bread.
I had red snapper chowder with their extra bread, its a must to enjoy their soup and when I finished, I was full. Soup's can be small or large, and for $5.50, for a small, I will feel full, and thinking should I take some home with me. Their location inside the market, with an area you can buy others soups, dips, sauces to salad dressing.

If you enjoy soup's, especially seafood, this is a great spot for lunch and enjoy it in or outside the market.

Will be back soon.

Chicken Teriyaki with veggies, great flavour
Submitted Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - 5:31pm [Dine in]

I was inside Metropolis food court, wanted something healthy to eat and saw U-Grill. They had a hugh selection of vegetables, chow mein, variety of meats from Pork, seafood, meat and I took the Chicken teriyaki.

They cooked up my dish, rice is included and watched my food get cooked. In less than 5 minutes, I was off trying my dish, which came to a bit over $10.00. I was surprised how good the food tasted, the taste of chicken was definately marinaded, and everything I tried on my plate, was good.

I was surprised that a food court had a great spot to eat. I enjoyed my meal, and it looks like I will be back to try something else from U-Grill.

Recommend it, when your in Metrotown.

I love their latte's.
Submitted Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - 5:12pm [Dine in]

I was in Metrotown, wanting to get a decent latte, and stopped at Take 5. I had ordered the vanilla latte for $2.00, and from the first to last sip, my latte was rich in flavour. It actually stopped me in my tracks, and wasn't expecting anything exciting from a latte.
I think this location their latte's are made differently, than pacific center, and I let the staff know, they made excellent latte's.
Its not often I go to Metrotown, it looks like I have excuse on my days off.
If you're looking for a latte that had great flavour and taste, check it out, and I will be back sooner than later.

Toyama757 Seymour Street, Vancouver
The service was annoying & bad
Submitted Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 2:17am [Dine in]

I was walking along Seymour, noticed this AYCE Sushi, decided to give it try. Reading the reviews after my meal, wasn't anything I experience in service.

This place has been open for over a month, its a large space, busy for the lunch time crowd and found the servers disorganized from the moment I walked in. I was seated at the sushi bar with some others customers, and saw what people had ordered, to give me some idea.
I decided to order, Salmon & Tuna Nigiri, Avacado roll, Chicken Teriyaki, Tuna & salmon roll.

My Tuna Nigiri arrived, as I tried to get ginger & wasabi with my first dish, and gave me a generous portion. I waited to get my next dish, as I watch the 4 sushi chefs, receive orders, but the wait staff was not getting the orders correct. I saw this about a dozen times. I also didn't like how the sushi bar was set up, there was opening to my right, thinking this is where the staff will pick up orders, but this occurred from both sides. This became annoying when two of the wait staff, bang into me & the other customers a few times with no apology.
My cucumber roll arrived, but somewhere in the speed of the staff, they took my ginger & wasabi away. I asked the sushi chef, if I could get some more and it was very tasty the cucumber roll, which fell apart easily. I got my rice, waited for my chicken teriyaki, and when it did arrive, the portion was small with great flavour. I'm still wondering if my Salmon Nigiri, salmon & tuna roll would arrived. At this point, my servers where anyone who would come to the sushi counter, asking, and my tuna & salmon rolls arrived together. I did find the roll fell apart easily, and it wasn't that great tasting.
I asked for the bill, thinking my last order will arrive, it never did, and gave up asking. My bill was incorrect, the ACYE sushi price $10.98, plus price of coca cola, as they charged me with Salmon Nigiri, when its part of the price. The waiter reverse it, my Salmon Nigiri did come, ate one of the pieces, but I had to leave. I went to the till, thinking this would be faster, but the staff were slow, one gal bumped into me, didn't apologize and that's when I paid, left no tip and told them I doubt I will be back.

I doubt the service will improve in being organized, and the lack of friendliness, drove me nuts. I think the food is good, when it get's there, but with so many other choices out there, once is enough.

Expensive Baquette with no Flavour.
Submitted Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - 5:37pm [Dine in]

I decided to check this place out, not very big, alot of people eating on their outside enterance. I found the service rather rude & indifferent, as I decided to try the chicken baquette, and paid $7.00 for a hype up sandwich.

A few minute later I got my sandwich, and noticed the baquette was fresh & toasted. As for my chicken and what was inside was rather bland, dry and found eating it rather lacking in flavour. I did like the baquette, I would return to buy it, but I wouldn't invest in expensive chicken baquette and can find other places that have better made sandwiches.

I won't be back, too expensive for my taste.

Waste of my time
Submitted Monday, April 20, 2009 - 10:47pm [Dine in]

I decided to try this place after hearing how good their food was at New Hong Kong Kitchen. I decided to do take out, spoke to a very snippy lady on the phone and was about the same in person.

This place is a dive, was very cluttered, messy and I only saw one person eating inside at lunch hour. My food was ready, ordered the Chicken in black bean sauce with rice and Shrimp & pork Wonton soup with noodles. The soup had flavour, but I didn't see any shrimp, one thin slice of pork and 2 wontons. I like broth, but was expecting more for a soup. The chicken in black bean sauce, had little chicken, lots of onion & peppers, drenched in black bean sauce, and was salty.

I was expecting more, didn't get it, with so many choices around, I doubt I will be back anytime soon.

I like their burgers.
Submitted Thursday, April 16, 2009 - 9:48pm [Dine in]

I finally tried this place, wasn't busy for a Thursday night with my friend and ordered Teriyaki chicken wings & 2 burgers.

We had half order of wings, very juicy, I only wish they brought us additional napkins. Our mushroom burgers with cheese, I had a side salad and my friend had fries.
We both loved our burgers, very juicy, great tasting, lots of flavour and we both couldn't finish it. If you have an appetite, there burgers are filling and worth each bite. I like the salad, great presentation, and I did taste my friends fries, and they were good.

I did notice a large patio, and I bet their busy when the weather is nice, and the actual place didn't look that big inside. Clean & tidy bathrooms and service was okay.

If you want to enjoy a meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner, check it out, great view of the water.

Will be back to try something else.

Submitted Tuesday, April 14, 2009 - 6:31pm [Dine in]

I usually visit this location when I'm in the area, and its only a hop, skip & jump from On Loks, and right beside 7-11.

I usually order bbq pork buns, custard buns or tarts. I even tried their individual cakes. There selection is hugh, and I usually prefer to go early in the morning, when you can get somethings warm from the oven.

As for bakery, nothing fancy, service is friendly, and the baked goods are great to enjoy.

Check it out.

It is what it is, cheap food.
Submitted Tuesday, April 14, 2009 - 6:11pm [Dine in]

I have been going to On Loks for over 25 yrs, its not known for service, how it look, but we go there for the cheap deals & the food. Its a great spot to order some dishes, take it home and have your meal for lunch the next day.

I ordered for chow mein, the medium size prawns chow mein with bok choy, in rice, chicken in black bean sauce & green peppers and garlic spinach. I have enough leftovers for work tomorrow and my bill was under $20.00 due to having a special.

When I tell people to eat there, I do warn them, the service can be rude and unfriendly, today I didn't have that experience. They did renovations from last year, so when you enter the till area is larger.

If you're looking for great food, cheap prices, fun place to people watch, give it try.

Lots of Gelato Choices.
Submitted Wednesday, April 8, 2009 - 10:46pm [Dine in]

I finally had a chance to check out Mondo Gelato, which had many flavours to pick from, I think about 40 flavours. I had to try the peanut butter & chocolate Gelato, and it didn't disappoint, creamy, lots of flavour and the right amount of Peanut butter & chocolate.

This place must do alot of take out, since it lacks comfortable chairs, that where cheap plastic, all weather chairs..They need to invest in decent chairs, unless their concept is to buy it and leave to eat your ice cream. It wasn't too busy when I walked in and found it to be tidy, clean and organized.

Will be back to explore other flavours. Next gelato visit will be take out.

Okay dinner experience.
Submitted Wednesday, April 8, 2009 - 10:36pm [Dine in]

I went to Tropika with a friend, after hearing how good this place was and you will love the food.

I was greeted from the top of the stairs by a friendly server and found my server to be informative, helpful and friendly. My friend & I, noticed they came around to replenish our waters or beverage, and did quality checks. This was what we both like about eating here, and how the servers would interact with their customers.

The food we both commented that we thought some food tasted like chinese, and if you like spices, they use plenty in their dishes. I ordered the Min 6 Satay & tried the chicken, beef and lamb satay, Vegetarian spring roll, Hainanese Roast Chicken and my friend ordered the combo platter Putera-Puteri Favrite.
I prefered the chicken satay, it had the best flavour, the peanut sauce was very good, and the vegetarian spring roll was hot when it arrived but I didn't think it had alot of flavour. The hainanese roast chicken was half order, it was hugh, which I have enough for leftovers and found the chicken dry.
My friends meal reported was a combo of very spicey vegetables, she thought it was cabbage & broccoli. The sweet & sour pork ribs, tasted like chinese with tons of msg, and she was too crazy about it. This platter came with chicken satay, which she liked.
At the end of our meal we had leftover for the next day, which she gave me her left over pork and I will see if it taste better the next day.

Our impression of the food was okay, a couple of dishes where good, but the experience didn't wow us or want us to return to try other dishes.

Big on service but I doubt we will return.

Sala Thai888 Burrard, #102, Vancouver
I only wish their dishes had larger portions.
Submitted Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 2:04am [Dine in]

I have eaten a few times at Sala Thai, I leave full but felt they could have done more with my meal.
Service can be friendly, depending on the server, and if they're busy when you arrive.
I ordered the garlic chicken, steamed rice, steamed roll, and wish I got another dish with vegetables. The garlic chicken was full of garlic, and can still taste it, but I wished they added vegetables or bigger slices of chicken. Its not a large dish, the rice did help, and the steam rolls had lots of flavour. I find each time I eat here, the sizes of the dishes is what you're paying for, and if I wanted to order the additional dishes, this would be costly. I don't know if they do this, hoping you will order more, but I wish they had larger portion sizes.

Elephant & Castle385 Burrard St, Marine Building, Vancouver
Late lunch.
Submitted Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - 7:31pm [Dine in]

I was walking pass the Marine building, saw the Elephant & castle, decided to go in for a late lunch.

As I walked in, you hear this very loud windy sound, as the door open, which was distracting. I thought the place was bright, spacious and like the booths by the window.
My server was friendly, but lack information or didn't seem to know the menu, I tried potatoe skins & chicken vegetable stir fry. I thought the skins where good, but are definately appetizer size, so don't expect it to fill you up. As for my chicken vegetable stir fry, was too spicey for my liking, and even asked my server about this dish, which caused me after a few bites, not to like it, and didn't like the tang taste.
I found the place not busy around 4pm, and not sure if i would return to try something different.

Chicken Teriyaki bento box was cheap.
Submitted Tuesday, March 10, 2009 - 3:58pm [Dine in]

I was in Lynn Valley, when I wanted Sushi for Lunch and decided to try this location.

Its not a large place, seating is limited with cheap chairs that were uncomfortable. This is why I noticed alot of people ordering take out. I decided to try the Chicken Teriyaki bento box that came with tempera, salad, rice and chicken. I added 2 salmon nigiri to my order and everything arrived quickly.

The Chicken Teriyaki was very good & even the tempera had a light batter, and they gave me rice that was done right. I loved the salmon nigiri, fresh, lots of flavour and complimented my meal.

My lunch was under $10.00, food arrived quickly and the next time I'm in Lynn Valley, I will have to come back to order to go.

Tea is fantastic
Submitted Monday, March 9, 2009 - 5:44pm [Dine in]

I was walking pass O-Cha, wanted tea on a cold day, and love it so much, came back the next day.

The serene tea with camamille & lavender, with a hint of honey, was served in a large mug and from my very first taste, I was hooked. This tea store isn't large, limited seating, lots of variety to pick from, and service was friendly & helpful. When I walked in, they had just opened a tin with mint, which made me stay, and the rest is history. They serve a variety of tea's, including coffee, and food.
If you're looking for a quaint spot, to enjoy tea, with friendly service, this is the spot to enjoy your tea.

Will be back very soon.
