Wired Bean200 West Esplanade, #102, North Vancouver
Slow service.
Submitted Friday, March 5, 2010 - 2:45pm [Dine in]

I decided to check out Wired Bean coffee, that located on West Esplanade and Chesterfield. I noticed immediately this place was warm, and only 1 person that was working. I'm not sure if she was the owner, and found her to be friendly when she took my order. I did like the lady who did all the work, but the service was too slow, since many of the meals aren't made ahead of time. I decided to order Cafe Americano and Breakfast wrap, made my coffee quickly, so I could enjoy it, while waiting for her to make the wrap. When I did get it, my breakfast wrap had lots of flavour and filled me up. The cost for my meal was around $8.00.

I did comment to the server the food was good, but I don't know if I will be back, until they hire another person & find a way to lower the heat.

Submitted Saturday, February 27, 2010 - 9:54pm [Dine in]

I have walked pass Central Bistro many times, and decided to check it out. I was greeted by a warm & Friendly server. The place was busy, but I picked a good time, as a few tables became available.
I ordered their eggs, toast and hashbrowns with coffee, and my meal arrived quickly. I definately like their coffee, great blend and had a nice taste. My meal was good, filled me up and enjoyed the flavour and people watching. I will have to return for lunch one day and explore their menu.

Okay Lunch
Submitted Sunday, February 14, 2010 - 9:40pm [Dine in]

This isn't a large place to eat, and definate improvement to their West Van location, if they're related. I wanted to go somewhere quiet, away from all the crowds and have "me" time for lunch.
I found the service friendly, quick and knowledgeable. I ordered dynamite roll, salmon & ebi nigiri and tuna roll. My food arrived, tasted good, my rolls held together and I quite enjoyed the dynamite roll.
When I'm back in the area, I would order there again. Nice day to enjoy a quiet meal.

Greasy.
Submitted Saturday, February 13, 2010 - 5:59pm [Dine in]

I decided to try Urban Burger and heard what people said about this place. I found the service friendly and my food arrived quickly. I found the place to be clean but few tables and alot of counter space to eat on stools.

My cheese burger came with fries and my choice of soft drink. I found the burger to be greasy, the patty was smaller than the bun, and as I took my first bite, I was eating bread. The fries were good, but took a napkin to remove the grease, only to eat a few bites.

I wish I had eaten at Vera's across the street, or fat burger or even Wendy's. Glad I tried Urban, but its not my type of burger place.

Fantastic service.
Submitted Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - 8:18pm [Dine in]

I haven't been in the Elbow Room for about a year, and wanted to have breakfast. I was well aware this is the place that's well known for their teasing and fun insults. I had amazing server who was fun, friendly and he was very quick witted. I was told I could sit anywhere, as he joked with me and took my ordered for eggs, hashbrown, toast and coffee. I thought the coffee was great, and if you want seconds or thirds, you have to get it yourself. My server arrived with my food, and the taste of everything was excellent and loved their hashbrowns. I had to go back for my second cup of coffee and finished off my meal. I was totally happy, what great service, the breakfast are allways good and will have to return for their coffee.

Will be back for enjoyable experience.

Good Sandwiches
Submitted Saturday, February 6, 2010 - 12:56am [Dine in]

I decided the other day, to use my half off coupon for one of their sandwiches. I ordered the Meatball sub to go, and paid half, which was a great deal. My server asked me what I wanted on my sandwich was completed, and paid for my meal. My sandwich was delicious, had tons of flavour and I was full for the entire day.

Great service when you want something simple & tasty, Quiznos is worth stopping in.

Okay burgers
Submitted Saturday, February 6, 2010 - 12:20am [Dine in]

I went with friends to Ricky's, when we all wanted to have burgers. We had a variety from Bacon & Cheese, Mushroom and mine was cheese burger. We all commented the burgers and each of us, thought the burgers lack flavour. I found my burger on the dry side and on the salty side. The fries didn't seem to have alot of flavour and not very hot, when they came out. The food was just okay, it filled us up, but all of us weren't impressed with the lack of flavour.

Our server was attentive, friendly and did spot check throughout our meals. I thought she made a difference and gave her points for being helpful.

I only wish the food was better.

Good Pizza
Submitted Monday, January 11, 2010 - 4:39pm [Dine in]

I was walking pass Djj's Pizza, wanting to have lunch, I stopped in and tried their pizza. Yhey have pizza by the slice was greeted by a friendly counter staff and he suggested the Ham & Pineapple and got coca cola to eat there. The pizza was crisp, not greasy, lots of flavour and loved the first one, that I went to get another slice. The sizes are cut large, two slices were enough for me, and I was full, glad that I tried it out and will return to try other dishes they have.

Great tasting pizza and look forward to coming back.

I've had better
Submitted Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 7:42pm [Dine in]

I have heard about this place and decided to check it out. I went up the steps, greeted by my server and noticed as I walked around, the very sticky floor. I didn't think the place looked dirty, I found the floor and my table to be sticky, which made me take off points for their location.
I found the server not very friendly, giving me paper take out menu's that were poorly photocopied and eventually came around to take my order.
I ordered Chicken teriyaki bento box, that came with tempera, salad, rice, and 4 pieces nigiri with a beverage.
I never can understand why places will bring the rice before the food, which was several minutes later when my food did arrive. My chicken teriyaki was very tasty, lots of flavour and the tempera had too much batter and was okay. My nigiri didn't arrive at the same time, but I did like the salmon and prawn ebi, had tons of flavour. The tuna and crab lack flavour and didn't taste that great. My salad was fresh, didn't like the dressing and tasted more like vinegar.
I thought my overall experience was disappointing, especially the sticky floors and table. I don't know how quickly I will return, and with so many sushi places to eat, this spot wasn't for me.

Lunch deal.
Submitted Saturday, January 9, 2010 - 7:49pm [Dine in]

I finally got a chance to check out the new location and the interior is beautiful and very relaxing to enjoy a meal with friends. I found the server wasn't very friendly, distraced and when our food did arrive, was delivered quickly. We took advantage of choice of appetizer & entree for $9.99, and we both ordered spring rolls, I had the vegetable stir fry with chicken in oyster sauce and my friend had chicken in yellow curry. We both thought the spring rolls we're crisp, fresh and hot with a great taste and like the salad that accompied my roll. We got a pasta dish, my friend like it more than me, and glad that I tried it. My dish was perfect, amazing in taste, fresh, crisp vegetable and great tasting chicken & rice. I thought it smelled wonderful, which made me take my time enjoying it. My friend liked her yellow chicken curry, it came with rice, and reported to taste good.
Our bill arrived $26.00 before tip, with two pops, and two lunch specials was a great deal, beautiful new location and good food. It could have been an off day for the service, but I'm positive I'll return to check out the menu again.

New location
Submitted Friday, January 8, 2010 - 6:32pm [Dine in]

Beard Papa's has a new location on the South side, near Extra Foods and its been open for about a month.
I was greeted by a nice & friendly server. Today the flavour was green tea, strawberry and chocolate. I ordered two chocolate, as I watch her put the chocolate inside the pastry and like how fresh it tasted. The chocolate had amazing flavour, and wanted to return for more, lucky for me, I was at home. This spot is tucked away in a corner, a few tables to enjoy or you can do what I did, order to go.
It's not often I eat puff pastries, $4.10 was worth it, especially after lunch. Will be back again.

Hugh portions
Submitted Sunday, January 3, 2010 - 10:31pm [Dine in]

I had heard about Blowfish and after reading the reviews, decided to give it a try. This isn't a big place, rather small, tidy with only a few tables, and they do alot of take out. The server was friendly, but not very attentive and was kept busy with orders and two sushi chefs.
I ordered the California Roll, Dynamite Roll and tuna roll platter, and glad I didn't order anything else with it. I was surprised by the size, hugh rolls, and definately filling. I loved the tuna roll, fresh, flavourful and tasted great in each bite. The dynamite roll was large with prawn tempera, lots of flavour along with the california roll. The only thing I didn't like about my dish, some of my rolls, fell apart too easily, and wasn't rolled tightly. My platter dish with my coca cola, came to $11.00 before tip, and I was full and glad I tried it out. I would definately return, and order out, since seating is limited in this small place. Prices aren't too bad either.

Will return.

Buffet at River Rock, The8811 River Rd., Richmond
Festive Lunch Buffet
Submitted Wednesday, December 30, 2009 - 4:32pm [Dine in]

I was given gift card and heard about River Rock buffet. I tried it out after 1pm, wasn't too busy for the holiday season.
I was greeted by a friendly server, paid my $17.80 for my lunch and was seated near a window. I walked to the hot bar, tried the mashed potatoes, turkey, roast beef and salad. I got my beverage and walked to my table. I loved their turkey, lots of flavour, tender and great tasting. I had a slice roast beef, it was okay, a bit on the rare side and my side entree's complimented one another. I tried the dessert table, I like the creme caramel, light with lots of flavour, and found the strawberry banana triffle, too sweet and only ate a couple of bites.

The place was relaxed, not too busy, service was attentive and i would try it again for lunch.

Will be back to explore the menu.

Way too small to eat in.
Submitted Monday, December 28, 2009 - 10:55am [Dine in]

I was walking by Yamato, it wasn't busy and thought I would eat my lunch inside. Big mistake, it didn't take long it got filled up, feeling cramped as the wait staff kept bumping into me, with no apology. If you do decide to eat the food, do what others did, order out.

The chicken teriyaki bento box came with goyza, california roll, salad, tempera and I added 3 salmon nigiri to my order. The salmon was very good, lots of flavour. I did like the Goyza, crispy, light and lots of flavour, which was nice to see someone prepare it differently. As for the rest of my meal, The chicken teriyaki was fatty, tempera had too much batter, making it lose the flavour and bland. I didn't like the california roll, didn't taste fresh and had an odd taste.

This is a type of place I would order out, too avoid the unfriendly and irrated staff. I didn't like how annoyed they got, and continued to bump into my table which made my lunch experience annoying.

I hope the service improves, and with so many other places to try, it might be awhile before I would return. Don't eat in.

Horrible service.
Submitted Saturday, December 12, 2009 - 2:08am [Dine in]

I heard alot about Shabusen and finally decided to try it for lunch. I arrived at 1pm and from the moment I walked in, my greeter snarled at me and waited for a few minutes.

Service.
Horrible, unfriendly, poorly trained, rushed and not attentive, and from a variety of servers. I was told the wrong information for the ACYE, that I could only order once from the sushi and put only 1 in the slot. When I inquired about the portions, the next servicer told me it was unlimited and you can ask for 1 or several. The people who arrived at the sushi bar at the same time as me, received better service and got their food quicker. When I order my food, I asked 5 times for coca cola, which turned out to be Pepsi, no water did arrive and by the time I received my Pepsi, it was at the end of my meal and declined it. I waited 25 minutes at a sushi bar for something to arrive, when the people next to me got their food in plenty of time. The only cool part, I got to talk briefly to Vancouver Canucks hockey players leaving and they made suggestion to me, what was good.

I ordered Salmon & tuna nigiri, chicken teriyaki, smoked salmon, cucumber, avacado and tuna roll. I didn't like the smoked salmon, the taste was salty. The Salmon was tasty, I was amazed with Tuna, and prefer Salmon, but not this time. The Chicken Teriyaki was okay, since it arrived toward the end of my meal on luke warm side and the rice was cold. The cucumber, avacado and tuna roll were good, but some fell apart when I tried to eat it.

The price for lunch was under $12.00, I disputed my bill with the pepsi arriving at the very end, and they took it off the bill. I didn't like how I tried to get attention from my servers, repeat my beverage, wait longer than the other people and service absolutely sucked big time. I have to wonder how little they got paid, would explain in poor serive.

Horrible, terrible service and I doubt in my life time I will return.

tried it for lunch.
Submitted Tuesday, December 1, 2009 - 6:36pm [Dine in]

I have read the reviews, thought I would like Banana Leaf and decided on lunch.

The service was friendly, attentive and answered questions, which was helpful. I just didn't love the food, after I ordered the spring roll, lamb & chicken satay. I found the spring roll crisp, hot and the sauce they gave me wasn't too my likingm too spicy. I got 2 each Chicken & Lamb, small pieces, not flavourable and found the lamb very dry. I did get full, more from disliking my meal, and I felt Banana Leaf couldn't win me over.

Glad I tried it, and its more for people tastebuds that like spicy.

Food is the same.
Submitted Tuesday, November 24, 2009 - 3:05pm [Dine in]

The owners of Sai Kor changed their name to Cathay Kitchen a few months ago. The menu is still the same, they did add bubble tea to their location, on a giant board, when you walk in.
Eat in or take out, the food has flavour, the portion sizes stayed the same and the lunch time menu is very reasonable.
Today I ordered the Sweet & sour pork with rice, Fried rice and my dish came with won ton soup. I have enough food for lunch tomorrow and found my meal had lots of flavour, great tasting and was filling.
I've tried many things on their menu, the food is prepared quickly, and service is friendly.
Great spot to eat when you're in the area.

Will be back.

Sushi to go
Submitted Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 9:04pm [Dine in]

I've been eating at sushi station over the years, and order tonights meal to go. The place is showing its age, the chairs aren't that new, should be replaced, along with their floor. I like what you can get, without losing a body part and the service can be either attentive to "are you bothering me."
I ordered Salmon nigiri, tuna roll, avacado & cucumber roll. My salmon nigiri, was delicious with lots of flavour and my tuna roll tasted perfect. I did find my avacado roll and cucumber roll weren't rolled tightly and started to fall apart.
Over the years I've tried their bento boxes, sushi combo's and the food is usually tasty & good.
Sushi station isn't a fancy spot, or that spacious, order in or to go, the food hits the spot.

Rude service
Submitted Monday, November 9, 2009 - 1:41am [Dine in]

I have been to this location a couple of times, and each time I wonder how they stay in business. Its been a couple of years from my last visit, and the service has yet to improve. I arrived to be greeted by a narly, rude, inconsiderate lady, as she took my money, slammed my money & receipt on the counter. No further interaction took place, until my cheese burger arrived, with her eyes rolling, as she had to walk to my table. If I could put zero for service, that's what I experienced again.

My cheese burger was okay, a bit on the dry side, and my bun was burned on the top. This place wasn't busy for a Sunday afternoon, and noticed more take out request.

I will not return, too many places with decent service, like their competition Red Robin next door. I should have order a burger from their competitor.

Yummy.
Submitted Monday, October 26, 2009 - 6:44pm [Dine in]

I was in the village of Park Royal wanting lunch and saw Red Door. I came in, was greeted by friendly, attentive servers. I could tell it was new, only open for 2 weeks, bright, spacious, modern location, as I sat in a very comfortable booth.

I ordered the Soothing lettuce wrap and Won Ton soup. I had the soup first, lots of flavour, great tasting on a cool day. My lettuce wrap arrived with plenty of lettuce to wrap my meal inside. I was getting full fast, lots of flavour, bit on the spicey side but each bite was great tasting.

Throughout my meal, I found the service attentive, spot checks and its a very comfortable location. As for the price, its not cheap, the ambiance is what you're paying for and be prepared to see high prices.

I will be back to explore the menu on occassion, recommended when you're at Park Royal Village.
