JJ Bean House of Coffee1188 Alberni Street, Vancouver
Large windows to enjoy your coffee
Submitted Saturday, October 2, 2010 - 1:52pm [Dine in]

I was walking pass JJ, the other day, saw this new location and wanted to have their coffee. I decided to take in the ambiance, with their big windows, comfortable location and people watch. It wasn't that busy, my server was friendly and ordered cafe americano and pastry. I liked this location, very relaxed, my coffee was great, lots of flavour, and not bitter or chalky.

I had my pastry later in the day, lots of chocolate and hit the spot.

Recommended when you're in the area. Great spot to people watch.

Stepho's Greek Taverna1124 Davie St, Vancouver
Large portions with little flavour
Submitted Saturday, October 2, 2010 - 1:47pm [Dine in]

I've been to stepho's a few times over the years, and wanted to see if my opinion change with their roast lamb dish. The price is great for under $10.00, and you get lots on your plate for leftovers the next day.
I still found the lamb fatty, with little flavour and didn't have much taste to it. I did like the potatoes, rice, which you get lots of it, along with this stew and pita bread.
I picked a good time, after the crowds had left and around 1.30pm for my late lunch. I found the place was not too busy, server was friendly and quick.
I don't know how soon I will be back, the food too me was just okay, and only wish they could make a better lamb dish with more flavour and less fat.

This place is all about the hype.

cute spot for coffee or Gelato
Submitted Saturday, August 21, 2010 - 4:03pm [Dine in]

I really like how they use their space, and design this location. Bright, airy and very clean, you walk in, go up some stairs and you're greeted by a warm & friendly server at the counter. They have their own Gelato, will have to try it next time, assortment of breakfast, and lunches and you can eat in or take out. I tried their breakfast panini with chicken, ham, mushroom and cheese with americano. My meal came to under $10.00, which I thought was high, but adding in the dreaded HST, my meal arrived quickly.

I liked my breakfast, very tasty, lots of flavour and I was full. I thought the coffee was good, lots of flavour and walked out full. I didn't see the prices of the Gelato but I will have to try it one day.

Bring your wallet, food is good.

Cheap Breakfast
Submitted Saturday, June 12, 2010 - 9:19pm [Dine in]

I went with my friend to have our breakfast, and we both ordered the same, eggs, toast, hashbrown and bacon with our coffee. The food was quick, had lots of taste and the service was friendly, helpful and attentive. We didn't even have to ask for refill for coffee's and its nice to see the server greet her regular customers by their name.

Value excellent, around $13.00 for the both of us, and my friend found another place to have breakfast.

Will be back again.

Sushi Bella152 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver
My new home.
Submitted Friday, May 28, 2010 - 4:40pm [Dine in]

I finally got the chance to try Sushi Bella for lunch and was impressed from the moment I walked in. I was greeted by a friendly server and gave me my menu to check over.
I decided to order the Dynamite combo with 2 Salmon and Tuna nigiri, with soft drink. I was amazed, the tuna nigiri melted in my mouth, absolutely amazing and had the same experience with the salmon. Its not often I stop to enjoy the salmon and tuna, and plan to try it again, on my next visit. The dynamite roll was great tasting, lots of flavour and was a delicious combo.
What I like about this place, was the glasses the water came in, easy to grip and design, and the place will be a hit for eating in or take out. Bright, spacious, several chairs for the sushi table and variety of tables and I have no doubt they'll do well.

My meal was around $13.00 before tip, and this is a spot I plan to visit very soon.

Highly recommended to eat in or take out, will be back to visit home...can we say YUM!!

Okay lunch
Submitted Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - 6:51pm [Dine in]

I was greeted by a friendly server and I decided to order their Dynamite roll, avacado roll and 2 salmon & tuna nigiri. My meal wasn't too long of wait, but I didn't like the Salmon or Tuna nigiri, found it to be dry and the rice was warm. My avacado roll was good, and had lots of taste to it. I was disappointed in the dynamite roll, dry in taste and not very much flavour and I didn't finish it or want to take the rest home.

Glad I tried it, left me with wanting to explore other places.

Good Lunch
Submitted Monday, May 24, 2010 - 8:58pm [Dine in]

I was here a week ago, when I was craving sushi and decided to give them a try. I was greeted by a friendly server who showed me my table. It wasn't too long before she returned and I ordered their Roll Combo, that combined dynamite roll, bc roll and california roll. I thought their dynamite roll had great flavour and was filling to eat. I find alot of places make their california rolls with too much mayo, but they hit it on the spot and actually thought it was the best I've eaten in a long time. The same for the BC roll had great flavour and freshness. I wasn't disappointed with my meal, full with even a couple of left overs to take home.

I will have to return, and I think they do alot of their business on take out.

Expensive Bento box
Submitted Monday, May 10, 2010 - 8:07pm [Dine in]

I have walked by Mr Sushi and decided to try it out today. It wasn't too busy for afternoon lunch and saw many people picking up their take out orders.
I order their Chicken teriyaki, dynamite roll, spinach, 1 piece of salmon, tuna, prawn nigiri and pumpkin tempura. I thought the display of food was good, I liked their chicken teriyaki with lots of flavour and the pumpkin tempura was different with a nice taste and seasoned to match the taste, it was too my surprise very good. The Dynamite roll was filling and like the taste along with the nigiri. I think the 4th piece nigiri was squid, which wasn't my favourite, but have to try things to see if you'll like to try it another day. As for the spinach, it wasn't my favourite, overcooked and with some sore of dressing that didn't compliment it.

I thought the food was good, the service was attentive but the price was steep, compared to other sushi places $15.53, before tip. Clean place, with lots of choices to pick from, and I do recommend it for the variety.

Will try take out next time.

Coffee and food is good.
Submitted Wednesday, May 5, 2010 - 7:16pm [Dine in]

This waves location is on the corner of Howe & Smithe and its a very nice location to enjoy your coffee. They have a large assortment of Panini, baked goods, desserts to many varieties of beverages.

I came in the last week, loved their Bbq meat Panini and had one of their coffee's. I quite enjoyed their sandwiches, and have tried their Lamb to chicken Panini and some pastries. If you want a coffee place that's quiet and close to everything, this is nice place to enjoy your coffee.

Order what you can eat!
Submitted Wednesday, May 5, 2010 - 6:55pm [Dine in]

I made a review back in July 2008, been here a few times over the past couple of years. I decided I would have ACYE sushi and return to Tanpopo, and was in for a rude and surprising rules from this place. I ordered several items from their list, and ate all except for the last dish. The food was good, but I happened to be full and thought this last dish, I could take home. I was perfectly okay if they charge me extra for not finishing my Avacado roll. This is where I was surprised & shocked, that they insisted I couldn't take it home or pay extra and wanted to know why they would want to waste food, by throwing it away. This bothered me and even a couple of tables commented to the server and the manager decided to let me take it home.

If you eat at this place be aware that taking home leftovers or 1 dish will result in rudeness from the staff. I think they need to show better flexibility for their customers, especially repeat customers. This experience has left me a bad taste and its too bad, they lost a customer over their rules.

Can't recommend.

Vera's Burger Shack1030 Davie St., Vancouver
Cheese burgers are great.
Submitted Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - 7:16pm [Dine in]

When I want to enjoy a burger, I love Vera's burgers since they're filling. This location isn't that big, popular with the lunch & dinner crowd, if you go at the right time, you can find a place to eat your meal.
I usually order Cheeseburgers and soft drink and do like their fries, but I knew I wasn't that hungry. The burger is juicy, plump with lots of taste and the bun is fresh and toasted right.
Compared to other burger places, you pay a bit more, but you pay for the quality of the burger. If walking along Davie, makes you want a burger, stop here and enjoy a burger.

Will be back soon.

Great coffee everytime.
Submitted Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - 7:08pm [Dine in]

I love Delany's coffee, and this location is the orginal before they branch out to the North Shore.
I find the service friendly, quick and like their other coffee locations, the coffee and snacks are good. If you're looking for a decent cup of coffee, something to snack on, to enjoy your coffee at this location or take out, I stop here, when I'm walking along Denman.

Hamburger Mary's Diner1202 Davie Street, Vancouver
Delicious.
Submitted Saturday, April 10, 2010 - 10:44pm [Dine in]

I've been to Hamburgery Marys, usually for their burgers and decided to try breakfast. I got two eggs, hashbrown, and toast with my coffee. The portion size are large, with lots of taste, and thought my coffee was good.
What I don't get is how the service can either be Exceptional & friendly to Lukewarm with the attitude to "why did you come in."...This is what I got today, with hardly any service, other than my meal and bill.
I will continue to come in, explore their menu, which they have great ideas. I only wish the service could be more friendly.

Pizza
Submitted Wednesday, April 7, 2010 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

I have walked pass this location many times, and wanting pizza, I decided to give it a shot. I was greeted by a friendly server, the pizza's were hot out of the oven and decided on the meat and Chicken pizza. The 2 pizza and can of pop came to $5.00 and decided to eat in.

I gather from being inside, they do mostly take out, and with a few tables they had, I noticed it wasn't very clean inside.

I tried both pizza's, they weren't too bad, the crust was crunchy and toppings were bountiful. I was full by the end of my meal, and when I return the next time, I'll order out.

Good spot when you want something to go.

Service is slow
Submitted Saturday, April 3, 2010 - 8:57pm [Dine in]

I totally agree with the review that Epic said below, that service was slow and distracting. I found the server wanted to talk to everyone, as he made the meals and what should have been in & out, took over 25 minutes. I ordered the chicken souvlaki without tomatoes and guess what he put in it. When my meal was made, it was tasty, but found the overall experience was too slow. Unless the service improves and they hire more people to work the counter at lunch time, I don't think I will return.

Food was good, I just wish service was better.

A Cafe Chinese Cuisine1234 Robson Street, Vancouver
Dim Sum
Submitted Sunday, March 28, 2010 - 7:13pm [Dine in]

I had seen A Cafe the other day, and decided to try their Dim Sum. I walked in, was greeted by my server and looked at the menu. I ordered their Steamed Prawns and Pork Dumplings, and was told it would take about 15 minutes.

As I waited, the place could have been better cleaned or tidy up, a couple of forks & spoons on the floor and dirty napkin on the floor beside my table. This is where they lost points, and could see clutter in the back of their location.

When my two dishes arrived, very hot and thought both of my dishes were bland, with little taste. Although it filled me up, I thought for the price of $3.99 and up for Dim Sum, was on the Expensive side. Glad I tried it, with so many other choices out there, including Hons across the street, I'm more likely to go there next time.

Excellent Coffee in nice location
Submitted Sunday, March 28, 2010 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

I had seen Michi the other day, and wanted to try their coffee, since it was new. I noticed immediately, how beautifully decorated & modern their cafe was and was greeted by a warm & friendly host.

I decided to order an Americano inside, to enjoy my coffee in this sleek place and my coffee didn't disappoint. Nice music, the mugs were perfect and the Americano was a nice blend and soothing. If I had more time, I would have tried their Waffles, but next time.

The best part, since they're new, they gave me 20 percent of my coffee, for a limited time and being new.

Will be back.

Good Breakfast
Submitted Monday, March 22, 2010 - 8:05pm [Dine in]

I remembered this place, after I had walked into BC Rail building and wanted to check this place out.

Located on the outside and greeted at the counter by a friendly lady, who took my order. They offer Breakfast and Lunch and decided to order coffee, eggs, toast and hashbrown. I came at a good time, plenty of choices to sit and watch the TV and by the time my meal was over, several people had arrived to order their food.

My breakfast was under $6.00 before tip, loved the coffee, and they cooked my eggs, hashbrown and toast perfectly.

We'll be back during the week, not sure if they're open on weekends, and the service was friendly and quick.

Good Lunch
Submitted Thursday, March 11, 2010 - 4:26pm [Dine in]

I was in Horseshoe Bay, waiting for my bus, when I got hungry. I have always wanted to try Arigato and they were open for lunch. I got a seat by the window, was greeted by the owner who was friendly. I did find the prices a bit on the high side, but the food had tons of flavour and very fresh. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento box with Sashimi, california roll, salad and assortment of tempera. I was quite surprised the Tempera was crisp and tasted great, which is rare for me to like it. I loved the Tuna and Salmon Sashimi, fresh, cold with great flavour. The remaining meal, the Chicken Teriyaki and salad was delicious, and loved each bite. It definately hit the spot and was surprised how good the food was prepared.

I will be back, and nice place to enjoy a meal while watching the ferries come and go.

Breakfast wasn't all Cracked up to be.
Submitted Tuesday, March 9, 2010 - 9:07pm [Dine in]

I decided to try Ricky's for late Breakfast and when I walked in, I was was greeted with a lukewarm server. No smile, hello and walked ahead without saying anything to me. This is where I should have left, since I found my server either didn't have enough experience or really not into her job. I ordered eggs, hashbrown, toast and coffee and when my coffee arrived it wasn't very warm and tasted bitter. When my meal did arrive, it was lukewarm, n ot hot and the hash browns were cold. When I saw the manager, I asked if having warm food was the norm and if I could get it reheated. It didn't take too long to get my meal re-done and my server didn't seem to understand if I could a fresh cup of coffee. When I suggested if you could get me a new cup from another table, I got the impression she usually doesn't have people speak up about the food.
I did think the Manager got High marks for service, and this place does have cheap prices. As for the service, unless this is normal or she was having a bad day, service needs to improve and be friendlier.

I doubt I will return soon.
