Nuba is one of the stranger restaurants I've been to for sure. Let me start off saying, the food is good - very good. We ordered a couple of the vegetarian appetizers (over half the menu seems aimed at vegans and vegetarians) and each dish has a distinct taste and was well prepared. My problem with Nuba is the service. We went as a party of 4 at around 5 o'clock on a Thursday. The restaurant wasn't very busy at all, but still we waited for a long time for a table and it took even longer for a server to come to our table. The server was helpful enough, she seemed a little confused any time we asked her about a dish. Either she was new or didnt know the menu very well.
That was all excusable in my eyes, the real problem came when the food was being served. We only ordered 6 appetizers to share instead of everyone getting a seperate plate (as adviser by the waitress). Each dish was brought out at 15 minute intervals. Keep in mind the appetizers are fairly small and we had as table for 4. It felt a little awkward at diner since we spent more time with empty plates in front of us than plates with food. We even asked if it was possible to bring the rest of the dishes together after the first two, but we were told the kitchen was a little backed up. About half the tables were empty.
So overall I'm a little confused by this place. The food is good, but the serving size is small and the kitchen apparently can't handle many people (every review on Nuba seems to complain about this). I might go there again to try it out again, but it was such an uncomfortable experience I might have to go with only one very close friend.
Oh and final note, the restaurant itself is very trendy so be prepared to be surrounded by college students - I think "hipsters" would be the right way to describe them.

My favourite place for Chinese-Indian fusion. The hot and sour soup is seriously the best I've had in Vancouver, they go great with the prawn crackers. There have been multiple times when I would just order a pickup on a serving of soup when in the area and just have a couple of bowls for dinner. I've been going here for a couple years now and when it comes to picking what to eat you have to be careful. If you order the right things together, you'll leave 100% satisfied, but there are a couple duds in the menu. Certain items like the manchurian chicken which is a very popular dish among southeast Asians is just adequate here, but by no means bad.
The star entre dishes for me are the sweet and sour fish, manchurian fried rice, and mambo chicken.
The service is very good, everyone there is very nice and helpful. If you need anything, or any special requests they will try their very best to deliver, which they usually do.
Great place, I highly recommend for a casual dinner with family.

Great place in the valley

This is definitely a favourite place to go when looking for sushi at a reasonable price close to home. The tempura is quite good, and the rolls are well made. The rice bowls are really hit or miss. I often get the teriyaki chicken rice bowl and when it's good, it's really good - but when it's bad, well it gets hard to finish. Overall it's a great restaurant with many more positives than negatives. Often is really busy at lunch time due to Argyle Secondary which is nearby so I'd recommend takeout.

Great service. Friendly staff. Smiles everywhere. Great rolls. Fresh sashimi. Light and crispy tempura. What more can you ask for? My favourite place to go when I'm craving sushi, just a 2 minute walk from Lynn Valley Centre. The owners seem to enjoy their job and will always serve you with a smile. The extra small things they do for their customers makes this place a local favourite. Free refills on tea and sometimes even on miso soup. i went in for a pick up once and i had a cold, the server gave me 2 bowls of miso on the house along with a "hope you feel better soon" note on the bag, and i wasn't even a regular customer at the time. Highly recommend.

Over-rated

Only a complete sucker would wait in line for such mediocre food and terrible service. I previously wrote a review for stepho's which was a little mixed, but after having a few more COMPLETELY horrible experiences I think I need to take back my previous statement. It seems like they have changed up the service staff at Stepho's - big mistake. The new servers at the restaurant are so unprofessional that it simply blows my mind that people are willing to put up with it. I have seen numerous people getting up from their tables to get pitchers of water to fill up their glasses because there weren't any servers in sight. Cold dishes, undercooked food, wrong orders, incompetent staff, and dirty cutlery. How many things can you turn a blind eye to? I am now done with stepho's, you shouldn't have to compromise so much when paying for a meal.

Ups and downs

I have been going to stepho's for almost 8 years at least once every 2/3 weeks. The food is really good, but there have been times where things were a little off (rice/potatoes/carrots being a little undercooked). It's not the cleanest place, but it's not anything offensive. I have noticed the restaurant goes through periods where it's amazing, simply top notch, but there's also periods where you leave a little disappointed - but I do believe that's because of the expectations you make from having previous amazing meals.
Overall, a great casual Greek restaurant in Vancouver. Have been going there for year, and will continue to do so as as far as I can see.

New management

Little Tokyo has to be one of the best affordable sushi restaurants in north vancouver. I noticed a lot of negative reviews, but the restaurant is now under new management and has done a complete 180. The restaurant itself is small, but very clean and comfortable. When the weather is nice, outdoor seating is available.
The service was great, a very lovely couple run the place who are always greeting you with a smile.
I have tried the assorted sashimi and a variety of rolls from here. The sashimi was very fresh, just melts in your mouth. The rolls very also very good. The rice wasn't at all hard or frozen, which is often a problem at many small sushi restaurants, and the rolls were very nicely made and portioned.
Overall a great place to go when in north van and looking for a reasonably priced sushi restaurant!
