This is not Indian
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 3:45am [Dine in]

Simply put, this place serves white man's Indian food. The food was bland and totally tasteless. To add some kick to my food, I asked the waitress if there's any hot chutney. She brought me chilli powder. While the chilli powder did add some kick, it did not blend well with the flavours that were weak to begin with. The mango lassi was also very watery and bland. This is not Indian.

I don't like the food
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 3:34am [Dine in]

I've never been a big fan of fusions, and this place didn't help. I found the food portions small and tasted funny. This may have something to do with my dislike of sweet food. The waitress was very attentive and explained every dish to me but I simply don't like the food.

Don't ever go there
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 3:31am [Dine in]

I was there for late lunch. The sushi bar was virtually empty but the waitress still recommended it. After watching the same plates circle around and around and around, I decided to have a plate of salmon nigiri (2pcs) and a plate of seaweed. The salmon was warm and not fresh. I decided to order a la carte. Unfortunately, everything I wanted was either sold out or no longer available, so I left still feeling hungry and $15 poorer for the 2 dishes. 5 mintutes later, the warm salmon had me searching for toilets. Needless to say I never went there again.

Stepho's Greek Taverna1124 Davie St, Vancouver
Best Greek
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 3:23am [Dine in]

The service is pretty bad. Snooty at times, so I decided to take my business elsewhere. Bad mistake. I never thought that Stepho's potatoes and rice was anything special until I had absolutely horrible ones.

Having said that, the only dishes I like at Stepho's is Dalmathes to start and roast lamb for main. However, just the 2 dishes kept me coming back. The lamb is tender and succulent. The meat falls right off the bones. Simply well done. One tip for everyone who don't want to wait: take the food to go and eat at the beach 5 blocks down.

Best steak in a while
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 3:12am [Dine in]

I like my steak rare and no one seems to believe me except at Moxie's. The steak was perfectly cooked. Tender and juicy. I've been to Milestone's, cactus club, earl's, keg, etc and they all bring me medium well. Maybe I don't look like I can handle it. However, the starter was just okay and so was the cocktail.

Best poutine
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 3:00am [Dine in]

I've only ever ordered the poutine at this place. I don't know if it's the double-fried fries or the double layer of cheese and gravy but their poutine is simply the best. I routinely trek over the hill from my apartment in West End, a 40 minute walk, to satisfy my cravings. It's that good.

Not worth the money
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 2:57am [Dine in]

Vera's half a block down the road is definitely better. This place is supposed to have big and juicy hamburger patties but I only found a small dry one. Perhaps my standards were too high. Everyone who asked me about this, I told them it's comparable to McDonald's.

The place is trendy looking but both the food and service were lacking. I went there with my Chinese friends and even though I clearly do not speak any Chinese, the waitress insisted on speaking Chinese to me. This made ordering next to impossible and when the order was screwed up, it took even longer to have it corrected. The food wasn't very good. It was a lot for the money but not the best quality.

Don't know what the hype is all about
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 2:42am [Dine in]

I have several friends who swear by this place. I went there with them a few times and honestly, I still don't know why they like it. The food is typical Chinese, greasy and salty. It was always a challenge to get any kind of service. Not getting something you ordered or getting someone else's order happened all the time. The restaurant was always noisy and jam packed. I really should stop being convinced by my friends to give it another try.

GOod service, average food
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 2:35am [Dine in]

I was there for my mother-in-law's birthday party, and once again, she brought her own cake to the restaurant. The waiters were so nice to first not condemn us for bringing our own dessert. After they sliced the cake for us, they even added extra straberries so that everyone got a piece with their cake. Where can you get service like this?

The food on the other hand was average. The seafood was fresh but not particularly tasty. I didn't find the price reasonable nor do I want to ever go back again. It was a great experience with excellent view but the food just doesn't cut it.

I went there for lunch and ordered my favourite dish on earth - ahi tuna. It was simply the best ahi tuna I've ever had. When it came crusted in sesame, I was a bit worried because I've had one too many sesame snaps that are not fresh. I was pleasantly surprised. The sesame was fresh. The tuna cooked rare just to my liking. The sauce perfect. If only parking is easier to find.

I really enjoyed their burgers and salads though my friends said you could get sick of their salads quite quickly. Service had always been just adequate. There wasn't one wasted word out of the waitress' mouth. Their drinks were pricey though.

I went there for lunch a few times and $15 for lunch is a bit much. They do have the best gralic mayo in town for their not so good fries. I'm considering buying just the mayo and pair it with some better fries. Their food is generally good except their soups that are usually too salty but otherwise tasteless.

The best sandwich in town. Freshly made in front of your eyes and grilled to perfection. The cheese selection is also remarkable. Staff is a bit rude though. I've had one of them told me I'm too busy to slice you the cheese you want. Can't you choose anotherone?

Many people raved about their sangria, and that's what drove me to try it. They were right, the sangria was good, so was the salad I ordered but it wasn't spectacular. The service was lacking but the patio is a good place to people-watch.

I went there several times for lunch and had always enjoyed the food and drink though I did find the service a bit rude. However, one day I had some time to observe the kitchen staff and found that they don't wash their pots! Perhaps the high heat kills germs but to me it was a deal breaker. I've not been back since.

I've been wanting to try this place for some time, but they were always too busy. Finally, I went there on a weekday lunch time and the place was empty! The food was good but not my cup of tea. The udon I ordered was perfectly cooked but somehow the broth was sweet, so was the piece of tofu like thing. I'm not a big fan of sweet food but perhaps you are. I would try again someday at dinner time and see if they have anything interesting.

Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 1:55am [Dine in]

I still remember the day when they opened. I was so proud of finding such a gem that I took my friend visiting from the UK there, and he loved it too. But since then, I've had a few disappointments. First, they discontinued my beloved spicy wedges. What's left are the skinny tastless fries or overly oily onion rings. Also, I order to go a few times and twice the burger patties were burned and had to be discarded. Of course, I already left the place so could not complain. My favourite has got to be Doug's special. I still go there for the Doug's when I crave a nice burger.

I don't know how you would categorize their food but it's definitely not Indian. Maybe Indian fusion. I find the food well done but not overly tasty. Since I took the meal out, I can't comment on the ambiance of the place. The brief service I received was good.

Order the chicken
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 1:45am [Dine in]

The chicken is very tasty and well done but the beef no so. I've got great services and very poor ones, so it all depends on the time and day you walk in. A great place for a quick meal. Do not order their fruit smoothies. They are absolutely aweful.
