This was the second time I visited this place. Both times with an Entertainment Book Coupon, but I wouldn't hesitate to go without a coupon.
The decor was nice and they greeted us with warm smiles at the entrance and sat us immediately.
I had the Chicken Vindaloo, and my wife had the Lamb Karahi - both are curry dishes. They come with either rice or naan, so we ordered one of each for the both of us to share. We also had the raita, which came in very handy to calm the heat - we ordered our dishes medium, which was perfect for us.
I loved it so much, my stomach was hurting - I should have brought some home !!
Our server was very friendly and helpful and I would go back any time.
As I walked in, I looked around and there was only one table full in the large restaurant. Like clock-work, the hostess sat us beside them, which was also by the window (no surprise here). I didn't take off my jacket right away as it was a little chilly inside - I think the hostess overheard me saying to my wife that it was very cold. Within minutes the heat was on and I was more comfortable.
We ordered curry lamb, chicken and green beans with prawns and tofu and 2 sides of rice.
I must say that the food came fast, was hot and very tasty.
My first impressions were not so great, but after I ate, I was happy.
Would go again.
I would rate this place a 7/10
Overpriced and very bland.
I had the clubhouse sandwich and it was the most bland sandwich Ive ever had. It didn't even have cheese. And I wanted a green salad instead of fries and they charged me an extra $2.00 !
Don't be fooled by the nostalgia at this place. You can get way better food at White Spot. Don't waste your money and time.
The total bill for the sandwich and salad (no fries) was $14.07 !!!!!!!!!!!
Rip.
DON'T GO.
Went here for lunch today and had the Prime Rib burger with bacon and avocado (see photo at top of page). This was the best burger I've had in a long time.
My wife had the warm salmon salad and she said its her 2nd favourite salad ever.
The last time I was here, I had the fish and chips, which were the best I've had.
I'm never disappointed here !
The server (Holly) was very nice and attentive.
Can't wait until my next time.
I used to go here all the time when I was at UBC. Now I only get around there once and a while. The prices havent changed much in 15 years !
Still, the burger of the day and fries is $4.95. Can't beat that ! And the fries are hot and tasty.
Its very dark and at times can be noisy, but still, this is a great place for a burger !
This is the place I go for Dim Sum. I usually go on weekdays, when its not busy. If you go on a weekend, be prepared to wait.
This is an à la carte format, so there's no carts being pushed around. The menu has pictures, so it works well for the non-Chinese speaking people, like me.
Servers come fast and food isn't too far behind. Its steaming hot and very tasty.
And for dessert, try the mango pancake ! not too sweet, but really hits the spot !
I had the hamburger platter and a chocolate milkshake (see photo at top) for my first visit to the 80's Cafe.
For the price ($5.95), the burger and fries were a great deal. No complaints, but the burger patty was kind of small and lean. Good if you're on a diet. Anyways, the taste was fine and I was happy based on the price.
The milkshake was $3.75 and was nice and thick with whipped cream on top. You don't get the metal shake container with your milkshake, but that's normal for the price.
Overall, I was satisfied with the service, taste and value. I would go back again to try something else.
Thought I would give this place a try today. I got a slice of the beef pizza (see photo at top). After having that, I wish I had got the pepperoni ! Not really the flavour I was looking for; I didnt really taste the pizza sauce - One thing that I really enjoy.
Won't order this again, but will go back to try something else.
Can't beat the price - $2.00
I heard so many things about this place and I finally was in the area, so I stopped in for a bite. I had the clubhouse with fries and a chocolate shake.
The best part was the fries, which were hot and crispy.
The club was ok - nothing to write home about - And not good enough to go back for more.
The shake was below average. They used Nestle quick for flavour and it just wasn't chocolaty enough for me. The price was high too. Almost 5 bucks !
Glad I went, but I wouldn't go back - just not my thing.
I ordered Laughing bean's Mocha Frappaccino equivalent today. I can't remember what they call it.
Just wanting to see what's out there compared to Starbucks.
The taste was alright, but it could use some improvements. I would like to see it a little thicker (this one was very liquidy) and a little less sweet. Also the optional whipped topping was also too sweet. As it is, I wouldn't buy one again, but would love to support this little coffee house, so I hope they make the changes.
One other thing I that bothers me is that the straws aren't individually wrapped.
Nice little place with good atmosphere though.
Went there on a Tuesday night around 5:30. When we arrived, there was only one other table with people and guess where they sat us??? Right by that table (and by the window).
Its like being in an empty theater and someone sitting right beside you or in front of you. Obviously they did it so they could look full from an outside perspective and in hind sight, I should have requested a different seat. I think they should ask where you would like to sit. Not impressed right off the bat.
The food tasted good, but I thought it was over priced and I could have made it easily at home.
Might go again next year, when I have another entertainment book coupon...
I always go here once/year with my entertainment book coupon. and we usually get chicken and lamb souvlaki. The pita bread and salad come first, which is a nice starter. The food is very filling, especially with the rice and pita.
They gave me an extra Tzatziki for free, which was nice. They only give you one Tzatziki with the pita and that is supposed to be for two meals. I love the stuff, so always need more. Not excessivly garlicy, so its alright in my book.
I would go without the coupon, but I have so many coupons for greek restaurants, I dont need to go back without one.
Definately a great place for a meal.
This is nothing special. I can cook a chicken too !! Thanks for the pouches of sauce. You mean I have to marniate the chicken when I get home?
I had take-out, the sever said it wil be 5 mins, it was 20 mins. How about after 10 mins say something, like im sorry I under estimated the time or something. How about some good service.
Very boring chicken. The rice was the only good thing on my plate.
They accepted the entertainment book coupon, but the savings were only about $4. Whoopie !!
Wont go back, even with next years coupon ($1 less to boot).
There arn't very many dim sum restaurants in Coquitlam, so the pickings are slim. If you are accustomed to dim sum at high quality restaurants, don't go here. My first few times I loved the place - friendly service and cheap prices. But since, I have gone to Sun Sui Wah on Main Street in Vancouver. Now there is no comparison. The bamboo dim sum containers are old and very dirty. The front glass door was disgustingly dirty on my last visit and I can only wonder what the kitchen looks like.
This is an alright place to go, but I wont go back because I know what Im missing, even if I have to drive into Vancouver.
Had a great meal with my wife tonight. Its like a little Mexican oasis in Port Moody. Authentic Mexican dishes and servers. The food was delicious and the service was friendly.
I will go back for sure. The red and green enchiladas are great !
The decor is very colourful and makes you feel like you're in Mexico.
I had their 12 inch brick oven pizza with ham, pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms and olives. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I even had enough left for my lunch the next day. It cost $15.00.
My wife had the lobster ravioli, which was also not too bad. Went on a slow night, so the service had no excuses. The server was nice; however, she didnt ask if we wanted refills - not a big deal.
Overall, I would definitely go back.
The restaurant is located in a motel on the Lougheed Highway. There is an adjoining bar/grill, with a common entrance.
To start a nice girl sat us down and gave us the menu. After a while a big man, with no smile, came by and took our order.
The meal started with four slices of complimentary French bread. The butter was served in those little plastic packets and was hard as rock. The bread basket and plates were never removed from our table.
I had the herb cod and my wife had halibut with a creamy dill sauce. My cod was hard and a little cold in the middle - obviously frozen ! The cod was smothered in dry herbs that did nothing for the taste. There was no taste to the fish at all. It came with rice and steamed veges. The rice was a little boring as were the veges. Needless to say I used plenty of salt and pepper to try and get a little bit of flavour.
Sounds from the adjoining bar could be heard - nothing like listening to a bunch of old drunk men during dinner !!
The waiter never came by to ask how everything was. We had to wave down a server to get more drinks and get our bill. I had originally put my visa down, but I knew it would take too long, so I put cash down and left.
I will not go back to this restaurant.
Nice, cosy little restaurant; friendly staff; quick service. Not fast food.
The bun was a little boring. Meat was good. They didnt have avocados (which I like !). Price: just over $12 - Maybe a little high for this burger. Potato salad was boring.
Verdict: 7.5/10; Would probably go back.
