Stonegrill @ the Met4820 Kingsway, #259, Burnaby
Great service, pricey food
Submitted Friday, June 24, 2011 - 12:14pm [Dine in]

Yesterday, my family decided to try out Stonegrill for dinner. We had never been here before and didn't quite know what to expect. We were promptly greeted by the friendly hostess and seated at a table. The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty solid, although the first thing we noticed walking down the hallway was the half dismantled fireplace area.

The server was knowledgeable and on her recommendations, we tried out the stone entrees. We were briefly explained the background knowledge about the stones and walked through how to cook our steak and seafood entrees. The food could use some work, as it is also quite pricey. However, the service was great. The girls were very friendly and attentive. Overall they made the experience pleasant. The only reason I'd come back is for the service and possibly to try out their cheaper off stone entrees.

Mediocre to say the least

I used to come here before they renovated and it wasn't too bad, but I remember after renovations the food was crap, so I avoided this place for years. As I was around the area, my friends and I decided to give it a go, and surprisingly, the food had improved slightly. It was by no means good, but it was mediocre-decent. Service is not too good, but it didn't bother me as much as the manager. When we asked to split the bill, he rounded the prices up to include tip. My friend who hadn't been paying attention ended up tipping on top of his "inclusive tip" prices. Until I questioned him why the prices were higher than supposed to be, he sheepishly admitted tip was included. This is just downright rude, and intolerable. These kinds of practices give the place a very bad rep.

Not as bad as everyone makes it

I've been reading the reviews about this place, and I'm actually surprised how bad everyones has rated it. When I go for ayce, I don't expect much service, I just expect efficiency and my food to come out. The food at Fish on Rice is definitely better than most ayce places in Vancouver. However, I have to note, the manager is a real sketch guy. On few occasions, he has tried to charge us extra money, making up lame excuses. On a side note, I hate how they replaced the mushrooms in the oyster motoyaki with onions. It makes it taste really oily and weird.
