Balilicious Modern Indonesian3488 Cambie Street, Vancouver
excellent experience
Submitted Monday, January 1, 2007 - 3:06pm [Dine in]

Due to change in plans we found ourselves without any place to have dinner on new years eve, and so wandered into Sate drawn by the glow of their open sign. Although the table we were seated at was not premium, owing to larger parties booking whole banks of seating,
we settled in for a surprising evening of friendly service and very tasty food. The owners are young and original in their thinking, presenting what they refer to as modernized versions of their old traditional Indonesian cuisine. In this regard, they are spot on, and just need to think about some of the finer details with their physical setup to take this little restaurant to a very presentable level.

Scrawny chicken
Submitted Tuesday, October 10, 2006 - 8:40pm [Dine in]

Great flavour, like the peri peri sauce, but this place serves the most pathetic, scrawny little chickens you ever saw, more like sqwab! The sides are a bit expensive for what they are as well. So much potential, maybe get a better chicken supplier or raise the prices to offer meatier chicken.

Worst food anywhere

Please, HIRE A COOK, this place is a embarrassment to the entire rstaurant industry! Nothing is worth the trip to this place, and the much touted "Thanksgiving" buffet was pathetic, cryova turkey breast.

Get rid of the cans of bug spray
Submitted Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 12:49am [Dine in]

This place has consistantly good product, but I have found that I need to order the bubble teas "half sweet" or I'll be diabetic before I even finish my drink. The food is great, especially the special sandwich, but someone should at least put the cans of bug spray sitting on the floor at the end of the counter outside the kitchen door away.....it's a bit disgusting and a worry about "overspray"

Great place on a sunny Vancouver afternoon when the doors are open and the wine is flowing. The decor was fresh...last year, but is starting to look tired and a little soiled. And please, Mr. Feenie, teach your servers what Campari is.

Now that's a BURGER
Submitted Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 12:37am [Dine in]

This place NEVER fails to satisfy simply because the food is fresh cooked and served up HOT! Why is it such a mystery to most burger places that they need to get the food out HOT (huh Whitespot, Fat Burger??) And. Modern's fries, the potatoes are whacked fresh from a whole potatoe and into the frier is seconds, and if you haven't tried their dipping sauce....well, frankly it may just be better than se....well, almost better!
