Think Twice About the Blue Canoe
Submitted Tuesday, July 29, 2014 - 10:08pm [Dine in]

A friend and I had lunch at the Blue Canoe in mid-June. Great location, the wait staff were great, but the food left much to be desired. So much so that my friend, who had the beef sliders, ended up with food poisoning. The salmon on my salad was unde rcooked, but passable. A call to management to inform them of the food poisoning was received indifferently. Not good enough, in my opinion. Definitely not going back, view or no view.

What's With This Place?
Submitted Monday, July 23, 2012 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

NEWS FLASH TO WHITE SPOT SENIOR MANAGEMENT!
This White Spot is a blemish on your otherwise improving reputation for good service and value. We visited this location iearly afternoon. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet it was a good three or four minutes before our server arrived. No water was brought to the table, until one in our party asked for it. The server was either having a bad day, or was a poor server. Indifferent and disinterested service. Food was good value, but the experience left much to be desirved. This store needs a major shake-up!

Oh, Pearl on the Rock - Where Have You Gone?
Submitted Friday, August 26, 2011 - 5:45pm [Dine in]

A first visit to the "re-branded" Pearl-on-the-Rock today for lunch. The place was empty, the server indifferent (although some cool tatoos), the food ordinary, and over-priced. It's sad to see the shell of what was once a first-class restaurant. Other than the decor, nothing remains of the outstanding Pearl-on-the-Rock. Don't let the re-branding fool you. Hopefully, a restuaranteur will fill the void that has been left by the now departed Pearl-on-the Rock.

Over-hyped and over-priced
Submitted Saturday, November 6, 2010 - 9:53am [Dine in]

Another over-hyped, over-priced restaurant with mediocre food. The noise level is so high as to preclude any meaningful conversation which is perhaps good, as patrons might discuss how disappointed they were in their meals. Is this place a restaurant or just a two-level room where people come to see, be seen, and speak LOUDLY? Seafood dishes at our table were of small portion, over-salted, and uninspired. There are much better (and quieter) seafood restaurants in Vancouver.

great potential

My partner and I really want to like this place. It's in a great location in Crescent Beach area and the owner-chef is enthusiastic. However, on both occasions we've eaten there, it's failured to deliver. A curried prawn dish was flavoured with something other than curries and a Caribbean lobster tail over fetticine was bland. Perhaps the meat dishes are better, but at this point in time, it may be best to stick with the above-average appetizers and salads.

Second class place in a transforming area
Submitted Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 6:46am [Dine in]

Looking for a salad made with only iceberg lettuce? How about condiments in single-serving blister-packs? Then Central City Brewing is the place to dine. Great location in rapidly improving area. Too bad the owners have given little thought to the menu, or to the waitstaff, who appeared disinterested and aimless on our last visit. The neighbourhood is going upscale - Central City Brewing should catch the wave!

taking White Rock to the next level

Senses is definitely a step up from other restaurants on White Rock's restaurant row. We were impressed by the ambience of the place and the prompt and attentive (but not interventive) attention of our server. The tapas we ordered were imaginatively prepared and presented, flavourful, and fairly priced. A definite "two thumbs up" and, hopefully, its success will bring more interesting fare to the rest of the neighbourhood. Great place to take a date.

nice building; mediocre food
Submitted Monday, June 19, 2006 - 8:33pm [Dine in]

Recently re- opened in a brand new, nicely-designed building as a neighbourhood pub with a family side and a bar side. While the rooms are quite nice, the menu seems like it 's from the '70s. Our pizza was a 3 out of 10, thick, doughy and a bit on the greasy side. The Greek salad was buried in an unidentifiable dressing (olive oil anyone?). Portions are large, but don't compensate for the mediocre fare. The vegetarian choices are limited. How about an upgraded menu and food to go with the new building?
