Meh....not again
Submitted Sunday, July 25, 2010 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

Went for brunch on Sat. July 24 and sat on the patio. Well, I had to turn my chair sideways as the chair from the next table left me about 8 inches. My friend and I both ordered the Fritatta for 13.00 and it arrived fairly quickly, but was lukewarm at best and unfortunately was missing the promised goat's cheese and potatoes, so it was fairly small. The "grilled" tortilla that was mentioned on the menu was simply one taken from the package and folded...BUT as it turns out, this tortilla came in real handy to soak up the grease from the bottom of the bowl. The "roasted vegetables" had no taste and seemed like they were leftovers from the night before. The water was fine though. Why the patio was 3/4 full was beyond me!! My friend also had the iced coffee which seemed ok and was 3.99 Not again.........meh

I used to drop in on my way home from work every month or so but I no longer will go back. At first it was a little overpriced, but the service was great and the meals were hot and tasty with swift service. Then it started to get pricier, service still attentive, but the food started tasting reheated or like the management was trying to save money and not throw anything out. Then it was just a smidge better than a frozen Safeway t.v. dinner. Waaaay overpriced. I see the windows always have "specials" posted on them to lure in the innocent...but not this lamb. No-sir-ee.

Went for lunch with 3 co-workers and two had the Peanut Sauce noodles and the other two had the lemon garlic noodles. Very difficult to eat with slippery plastic chopsticks for one thing and bland, flavourless sauces all around. The bits of grisely, stringy chicken were disgusting and we spat them out. Few pieces of basil/spinach and even the chili sauce condiment didn't help. We were all still hungry afterwards and made a promise never to return. The place is tiny and cramped and dark too...blah.

Met a friend for breakfast on a Sunday morning and take note that they won't seat you unless you're both there. So...I waited for 25 min. as I had arrived 10 minutes early. I was anticipating a very good breakfast as the place was full and people kept adding their name to the waiting list. Finally we were seated and coffee was promptly served. My friend had eggs benedict that she seemed to like and I had the eggs and bacon. The breakfast was not hot and the eggs were not cooked as requested. All I can say is that this place is WAY too loud (music and customers), DARK and the tables are so close together it's hard to get in or out from your table. Servers seemed all over the place and not organized. This breakfast was way over priced for what you get and I won't be going back.

Good Won Ton Noodle Soup - but ...
Submitted Tuesday, April 20, 2010 - 10:16pm [Dine in]

I must disagree with the last reviewer. I've eaten here dozens of times throughout the past 10 years and I think the Western food is much better than the North Americanized "Chinese". The breakfasts are ok, nothing special but still decent value. The prices have been steadily rising over the past few years. The "Chinese" food is pedestrian at best. Yes you do get alot but if it's not really great, what's the point? I did try the Won Ton Noodle Soup this week for the first time, although I did have to ask for extra vegetables as you only get broccoli with it normally. It would be better if they used rice noodles but they don't. Local residents frequent the place as it's very casual and tables are easy to get. It could use a big scrub in general to make it more appealing. It's ok if you stick to the western menu items.

Not making a return visit....
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 2:17pm [Dine in]

Three of us just had lunch here an hour ago...and well we were all disappointed. I had read the reviews here and pushed and pushed the others to finally go. One had the chicken pineapple fried rice (miniscule chicken bits and frozen peas and carrots and 98% rice)was rate a 3/10. I had the shanghai noodle with chicken? and some shreds of cabbage..the server told me it wasn't on the menu but it would be $8.50. (When paying it was 9.95). I'd give it a 6/10. Third person had the lunch special of brisket (she got chicken instead) and eggplant and sticky yucky chili rice (one big gloppy mess) and she gave it a generous 3/10. Both servers were very polite and helpful although we had to ask for water twice and the bill three times and never did get the bill. I would not go again and my fellow diners for sure felt the same way. Sad to say after waiting for 9 years to finally go there. Oh well.

Excellent food AGAIN!
Submitted Monday, March 29, 2010 - 9:26pm [Dine in]

Came for dinner Mar.29 and was once again delighted with the food. There were three of us and we ordered the Marsala shrimp (FAB!), honey garlic chicken (nice), shanghai noodles (very good) and the Manchurian beef (not on menu, but ASK for it). Wonderful meal, we were all stuffed and had take home for 1 person for lunch. I've never been disappointed in their food, always fresh, hot and beautifully seasoned. I swear they put in magic spice in that Marsala shrimp to keep us going back. I've been here 4 times in 6 mths and always fab!
One improvement I would suggest is that they bring the bill when asked. It seems every time I come, I have to ask twice and wait about 10-15 minutes.

Some office co-workers and I (even though we work downtown Vancouver) drive across for lunch and have been very happy both times! Service is quick and efficient and food is piping hot and just the way you order it. I love seeing the cooks working in the kitchen chopping fresh vegetables! Quick note--medium leans to more like spicy on the curry dishes. Spring rolls are tasty and you got alot of lunch for your money. One of our group eats here at least once a week for the past four years and says he's never had a bad meal. We will go back often! $6.95 for rice, spring roll and a bowl full of chicken curry... cheap and YUM! Go!

NEVER again.....
Submitted Tuesday, February 16, 2010 - 11:40pm [Dine in]

Reading today's review reminded me that I never did get around to putting in my review from eating there on Oct. 31st, 2009. This was actually my second visit as the first one wasn't much different, but I was the birthday girl and had high hopes. So a friend and I were going to the Joan Rivers performance and decided to eat at the buffet prior to it. First of all, with all the renovations going on it was nearly impossible to find the restaurant - signage was sorely lacking....and perhaps it would have been best NEVER to have found it. This was a Sat. night therefore top price. Where to start? Salad selection was fine, no complaints. Then onto the rest. Crab was obviously previously frozen and full of water and no flavour. Roast beef was grisly and stringy, again no seasoning. Buns were good and the mashed potatoes were fine. Faux Chinese food is better at a food court-trust me. Even vegetables were steamed to mush. I didn't even bother with the desserts but my friend (the eternal optimist-bless her heart) did and I swear frozen McCains chocolate cake would have been superior! Some rubbish cheesecake with tinned pie filling splattered on top completed the selection. The best thing that I saw was the fresh cut up fruit. I must say that we had a wonderful server who at the very end AGREED with us on the crap food!! I HAD to ask her why she would choose to work there and receive very little in tips because of the food and she shyly admitted that the other workers were like a nice family and that was the only reason she worked there. She also admitted she rarely ate more than salad and mashed potatoes and gravy and now I know WHY! This place needs a serious menu revamp and get rid of the hospital/steam table food! When you buy the groceries, you COULD have made great food out of it...why do they choose to make such POOR quality/tasting food? Quite the dilemma indeed. Seriously, NEVER again.

Went for a birthday dinner on Aug. 7th and we were VERY happy with our meals! My friend had prime rib and I had the sirloin with lobster, shrimp and asparagus. We both LOVED our meals! My ceasar drink was just so-so, my friend enjoyed her wine. The beef was cooked to order and service was efficient. We were seated on the second floor and it is unappealing at best. Serious renos would help. Good thing I didn't read all the previous bad reviews or I prob wouldn't have had one of my best meals ever. We will go back for the food!

What's the fuss about anyway?
Submitted Monday, August 3, 2009 - 1:42pm [Dine in]

Took my adult daughter here for a belated birthday meal as her FAV food is Mexican and was very disappointed. The wait was 45 min and they certainly need to train their host/hostesses. Sat on the patio and the waitress seemed disinterested. Chips and salsa were good. Margaritas were OK. Entrees were bland and colorless with no effort to "eye appeal". Thank goodness we didn't finish our salsa because it was the life saver to the bland food. We needed to beg for water and finally the bill as well. Service needs attention! I still don't understand what the fuss is about. I had fabulous food in Mexico from a street vendor on a tree stump, but this was so over-rated! Definitely not going back.

Cook Doesn't Care
Submitted Friday, July 10, 2009 - 5:10pm [Dine in]

Stopped in on my way home from work. Fairly empty restaurant at approx 5:15 pm...should have been my first clue. Waitress was pleasant. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The schnitzel was obviously deep fried in oil that needed changing badly therefore the meat had a bitter taste and was dry. The vegetables were tiny cauliflower bits and carrots and were mushy and tasted leftover from 2-3 days ago and were starting to taste sour...ughh The mashed potatoes were ok and the tablespoon of gravy was not as advertised on the menu. When asked how things were, I told the waitress and she offered a free dessert which I smartly declined. She then took $2.02 off my bill to placate me....although the meal was more than 12.00. Benches have large rips on them, place is old and well worn. I won't be going back.
