Defenitely overrated
Submitted Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 4:18pm [Dine in]

My friends had told me great things about Toshi, so I was very excited to go. Above all, everyone kept mentioning how we'd have to arrive early because they have line ups out the door.

I was extremely disappointed with the entire dinner experience. We had to wait 45 minutes for our table of four. The servers were friendly enough, but they were unable to answer my questions in any detail.

That being said, our party ordered an assortment of sashimi, including the tuna otoro, or the belly of the tuna which is supposed to be extremely delicate and flavorful. Toshi's excuse for tuna otoro was embaarrassing. It smelled vinegary, and tasted like leather. The rest of the sashimi was flavorless and tough. The salmon in particular was absolutely putrid. My tofu appetizer was decent, but not excellent. I did like the presentation of it, however.

My white friends seemed to enjoy it, which leads me to believe that they really have no idea what good sushi is, and they certainly aren't aware of the fact that they are being overcharged for it. A glance around the room confirmed my suspicions, as most of the customers were caucasian. This restaurant is simply not what it is made to be.

Don't waste your time here, this isn't real sushi - it's not even close.

Fire the waitress and you're all set

I'd like to say that everything about this little place is fantastic - except for the blonde waitress that served me. We arrived for dinner, WITH a reservation last saturday. We were greeted by a waitress who obviously was frazzled. She rudely asked us how many we needed, and when informed about our reservation, sat us at our table without even giving us place settings or water. After about 5 minutes, we finally flagged down the male server who gave us our menus.

The food was incredibly good, especially for the price. I had the roast lamb, which was moist and tender, and only 14 dollars. My wife had the halibut steak, which was good and the children shared a kalamari appetizer.

Unfortunately, the idiot of a waitress was incredibly slow, despite looking completely frazzled and busy. We tried several times to get her attention to take our orders. When she finally did, she messed our order up and gave my kids some prawn dish. Furthermore, when our food was up, I could hear the chef ringing the service bell from the kitchen. The male server checked several times, and I knew it wasnt his food, which means that it was probably my family's food considering it was 8 30 and everyone else had their dinners. Finally, the male server brought us our food - it's obvious the waitress is totally incompetent.

From then on, the male server took care of us and he was very good. He checked up on our food and refilled our water constantly. Our dishes were cleared as soon as we were finished, and our leftovers were packed nicely. However, when we asked for the bill, he informed us that he would have to get the waitress to bring it because she had our bill. We had to wait another 10 minutes just to get it.

Everything about this restaurant is fantastic except for that one waitress. I strongly recommend she be fired. Next time, if i get anyone else except for her I will enjoy my evening out, but if i get her i'm leaving. Great service other than her, the male server is the only reason i gave the service a solid rating.
