Probably The Best Sushi I've Had in Vancouver
Submitted Sunday, April 17, 2011 - 12:19pm [Dine in]

A friend of mine was picking me up for lunch & asked if I wanted to have the best sushi I've ever had.. I said ok & he took me to a place I've never heard of before in GasTown. Sea Monstr Sushi. At first walking in everyone was friendly & the place looked nice inside. We sat at the front bar & the tea was there right away. We had some rolls and everything was VERY fresh, light & tasty. It melted in your mouth.. The spicy scallop roll is the best! It might be a little pricier then the little sushi places I'm used to but the quality here seems second to none. Overall I was very pleased & this is probably the best sushi I've eaten in Vancouver. I will return with the wife.

A Fun Place To Eat With A Group
Submitted Saturday, April 16, 2011 - 3:45pm [Dine in]

I've eaten here many times & the food is always very good. I usually get "The Ultimate" a $50 meal that includes lobster, scampi, prawns, steak, chicken, rice, vegetables, soup. If you add $10 for a total of $60 two can share this meal. This is what I do when eating with my wife. You sit at a table where they are cooking so it's best to go with a large group to fill the table & avoid sitting with strangers. Also be prepared to smell like food when you leave -) The chef's are entertaining! Overall this is a fun place to eat & the food is always good.

Cibo Trattoria900 Seymour Street, Vancouver
Was good but not great
Submitted Saturday, April 16, 2011 - 3:33pm [Dine in]

I was on a flight & was reading the enroute magazine. There was a top 10 new restaurants in Canada article that I read. Cibo Trattoria in Vancouver was the #1 new restaurant in the country in the article so I had to try it out. The wife & I made a reso (place is busy & hard to get a table) When we arrived we were happy with the look of the place & the staff were very friendly. The food was good but didn't stand out as being amazing or memorable. I don't think I will return.. Just a good meal but nothing special..

Had a great meal here & definitely will return

I had a reso to eat here with my wife on my birthday. When entering I thought the place looked very nice inside, the tiles & decoration were nice. We showed up on time for our reso but there was not a table ready for us. They suggested we wait at the bar & order a drink while we wait.. I prefer to wait so I can drink with my meal so we were kind of uncomfortably waiting off to the side.. Once we sat we were met by a very friendly & knowledgeable waitress. I tried the beef carpaccio with shaved truffles for an appy & the osso bucco in a bed of risotto as my entree. Both were very good. The bottle of white wine that we ordered (2008 La stella vivace from the Okanagan Valley) has since became my favorite white wine to drink. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience here & I will be returning.

Excellent Fine Dining Location
Submitted Saturday, April 16, 2011 - 2:21pm [Dine in]

I read about this place in a magazine so I decided I had to take the wife here to try it out. She booked a reso for us (this place is very busy) When entering is seemed very small & crammed. We were seated at a 2 seater table stuck in between two groups. Our elbows were practically touching the people beside us & we were basically involved in their conversations.. It wasn't the most comfortable seating situation (this is my only complaint) but if you can look past this you are in for an excellent meal.

This place is very unique, there was a chalk board with the weekly menu written on it, no menu's. The waitress then went over every item on the list in detail & asked if we had any allergies. We chose to have the tasting menu so they picked what items we were going to get, yes they picked.. & the sharing plates started coming out one at a time. It was about 5 courses I believe & the food was all excellent! I remember the buffalo mozzarella & beat salad, veal stuffed ravioli & a polenta gnocci. Overall the food was Excellent, the service was very professional. The place wasn't the most comfortable. The price was high but it's fine dining so it should be. I al looking forward to returning here for another try.

Best Italian Food in Burnaby
Submitted Saturday, April 16, 2011 - 1:48pm [Dine in]

This is mine & my wife's favorite Italian Restaurant in Burnaby. We've been going for years & have never had a problem. What keeps us going back? It's a small hidden place that is cozy, the food is great & the price is reasonable. It's a perfect little place to take a date. The waiters are friendly but also funny. My favorites meals here are the Rigatoni Calabrese, Pollo Diavola (Devil's Chicken) & the Vitello con funghi (Veal with Mushrooms) For an appy try the muscles & clams in sauce. When you are finished that bread is going to come in handy to dip into that delicious sauce left over. My all time favorite dessert that I've ever had is also here. Gelato Fritto (Deep fried ice cream) It's a small block of ice cream rolled in almonds & quickly fried. The Almond crust with ice cream center is a must try.. I will continue eating there with my wife for quiet romantic dinners! I always recommend this place to friends & they are always happy afterwords that I did.
