Good Steak house
Submitted Thursday, March 27, 2014 - 9:39pm [Dine in]

My father and I had dinner here last week, the place is very busy, loud, fancy. We each had the $44 Surf & Turf. My steak was cooked perfectly and the meal was good, nothing amazing but yes a good meal. With 1 drink each and a bottle of pellegrino the total comes to $122 plus tip. Yeah I would eat here again I guess if friends wanted to go but I'm in no rush.

Had an amazing and memorable meal here
Submitted Thursday, March 27, 2014 - 9:28pm [Dine in]

4 of us dined here on a weekend, the place was packed. We all ordered the same thing.
(prix fixe menu for $55 per person)

- oyster shot, apple, horseradish
- daily pickles
- raw scallops, pomegranate, red curry oil, daikon, green apple
- grilled octopus, romesco, fennel biscotti
- mushrooms, snap peas, egg, soy yuzu brown butter
- pickling spiced half squab, cabbage, apples, mustard cream
- half duck, carrot cake, oranges, spices
- meringue, passion fruit curd, almonds, white chocolate lime

This meal was awesome. Unique food with amazing flavors and also we all left with a full stomach. I've been to many good Vancouver restaurants and this one definitely stands out!
Cool place, excellent food, great staff, YES I will be back here.

Had a great dinner here.
Submitted Monday, January 20, 2014 - 8:16pm [Dine in]

We had dinner here on a saturday night and arrived at 7:30, it was pretty empty inside so there was lots of seating. For an appetizer I had the ROASTED CHESTNUT BISQUE ~ apple lane farm apples, spiced brandy cream - $9. It was really flavorful and I enjoyed it very much. Next was the SOUS VIDE PEACE COUNTRY LAMB ~ broccoli rabe, butternut squash, spiced walnuts - $24. This dish was a great portion size that wasn't too heavy and the lamb melted in the mouth, was cooked perfectly, solid 4/5 dish for me. For dessert I had the CREME BRULEE - $8 and it was great, lots of flavor, not too sweet, just right textures. With a $8 Kits Cooler to drink (very tasty) my portion of the bill comes to $49 + tax & tip.

I consumed an appy, entree, dessert and beverage, all were great 4/5's for me and for that price I was happy. Our service was also great, professional but also with personality, not stuck up or robotic like some of the other nice places I've been to. Yes I will be back. My only complaint could be that the place was kind of empty/dead inside but that's fine with me, less wait time for my meal.

I've been here a few times, great place for coffee and dessert. the cappuccinos are good and made with care, the desserts also nice (sugar bun!) Also lunch has some good options, soup and sandwiches here are tasty. They also have a little market here that sells some great food items. Cool place, cool location, I will continue to come here.

Where's the Meat?
Submitted Sunday, November 17, 2013 - 11:00am [Dine in]

Dined here last night with a group of about 20 people. Service was kind of slow but we expected that with the large group. They had 2 girls that would dance once in a while as the entertainment. As for food, they have a salad bar and pasta station as well as the various meats that get brought to your table. My game plan was to wait for the meats to come, try them all before filling up at the salad bar and getting full. They bring out some chicken and sausage and then the meat stops. We are waiting for about 15 minutes and then finally they return to our table. In that 15 minute wait we watch them go to the table beside us and then leave without ever looking at us. When they do start coming back to our table it's with enough meat for about 3 people but there's 20 of us. A few people get some bites and then the guy leaves. Once the dinner rush was over and everyone's full, now they are there with lots of meat and the service is better.. kind of too late.

Likes:
meat was tasty
the pineapple with cinnamon at the end was nice

dislikes:
slow service
not enough meat and not often enough brought to our table until the end when it was too late

For the price, $31.95 per person I think it's fair since you can eat as much as you want. I guess you just have to be patient. I wouldn't return here with a large group because it was too difficult for them to serve us. I assume if I was here with a date that the food would be coming at a better pace.

I've eaten lunch here twice and each time I was happy with the food. Once a soup dish and once a chicken, rice, green curry dish. Everything was tasty and fresh, the prices are good as well. The service is very basic, what would you like? Here you go. That's about it.. I will be back for lunch as it's close by, the prices are good and so is the food.

Nice place for brunch
Submitted Thursday, August 15, 2013 - 10:49am [Dine in]

I came here for lunch with my father, they are located very close to the skytrain which was convenient. Upon arriving there was a line up of about 10 people waiting to get in. We gave our names and had to wait between 5-10 minutes and we were seated. I ordered the $16 Fricasse
2 fried eggs, braised short ribs, roasted potatoes, balsamic onions, watercress and smoked applewood cheddar. Grilled Foccacia.
This was a good dish with lots of different flavors. I also had a lavender latte which was tasty. The food here is good, the place is kind of small and cramped, service seemed rushed at times.

I came here for lunch one day, cool place with seating inside and outdoors also. I ordered the turkey panino which was perfectly grilled, had some good flavors inside and drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Very good and even came with a nice slightly spicy dip. After the sandwich I had a cappuccino and biscotti. Both were great. They definitely know what they're doing at Caffe Cittadella Espresso Bar & Bistro. I will be back.

Good pizza & beer hangout
Submitted Sunday, July 21, 2013 - 10:38am [Dine in]

My father and I dined out on the patio on a sunny saturday night and shared a couple pizzas.
ZEUS - Black Olive, Tomato, Roasted Garlic, Green Onion, Basil, Mozza, Feta - $18 - Was ok.. a little on the boring side.
STANDARD - Pepperoni, Button Mushroom, Red Pepper, Onion, Bacon, Olive, Mozza - $18 - this pizza was better with more flavor. We both preferred this one over the other.
Along with 3 tasty 10oz Black Cherry beers the bill comes to $50.

This place is in a cool trendy area, the staff were great, music was good.. a fun place to eat. The menu options here were nice. The pizza is good for non italian style pizza. (Not thin crust Neapolitan pizza) If I am looking for the greatest Italian pizza in Vancouver I won't come here but if I'm looking for a good west coast style pizza and a fun atmosphere I will be back.

Submitted Sunday, July 21, 2013 - 10:13am [Dine in]

I came here for lunch with my father, we ordered 2 sandwiches and had half of each.
CHEESE SCONE with Porchetta & Smoked Cheddar - This was good, a bit heavy on the bread part but still tasty.
BRIOCHE with Duck Prosciutto, Rillette Mayo, Red Oak Lettuce, Candied Walnuts & Apple - This was great, a lot of flavor here.
They have a water station on the side with fresh lemon water :) After the sandwiches I had a cappuccino with a peanut butter sandwich cookie. The cap was good, the dessert was very sweet. I loved the outer cookie but the center peanut butter spread was too buttery for me.

Overall this is a great little bakery/cafe. Everything here is high quality and the staff were very professional and friendly. I will return next time I'm in the area to try some other baked goods.

Submitted Tuesday, June 25, 2013 - 11:41am [Dine in]

I came here for lunch around 2:00, the place is small but there were seats available. I was hearing people speak french at a nearby table, the waitress/owner also speaks fluently. Nice to see that in a french place. I ordered the $10.95
Lamb Shank Baguette with garlic jam and grainy mustard. This came with a homemade daily soup: Zucchini, fennel, basil. The sandwich was a generous portion and the flavors were good as well. The soup was a flavorful homemade soup that I enjoyed also.
Great food, fair price, I will be back.

Everything excellent.. food just good
Submitted Saturday, May 4, 2013 - 12:17pm [Dine in]

4 of us dined here on a thursday night. The place is in a great location and is a beautiful restaurant. We had a warm welcome at the front door. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients, top marks for him. Basically everything was excellent here.. Now for the most important part, the food.

Appetizer: I had the $33 BC Tasting for Two
dungeness crab salad, scallop ceviche, albacore tuna tartare, smoked sockeye salmon terrine - 16.50 per person (minimum for 2)
All 4 of the items were 'good' but not more then that, it seems like they held back in flavors.

Entree: I had the $33.50 Qualicum Bay Scallops
caramelized belgian endives, wild rice griddle cake, candied ginger and citrus sauce
Once again a 'good' dish, nothing more.

Dessert: I had the $12.50 Warm Dark Cuban Chocolate Cake
brandy truffle center, vanilla bean ice cream
Another 'good' dessert but not great. I am a chocolate lover and would never leave any leftovers but I didn't really care to finish this dessert.

Add a couple of drinks and for the 4 of us the meal comes to $373 before tip.
Overall everything was excellent here except for the food. The food was all 'good' but nothing more then that. Nothing popped in my mouth, nothing stood out. There were no amazing or memorable bites. All of the items were 'good' but at a high end restaurant with high prices I was expecting great/excellent. With the small portions and high prices I was expecting more.

Great Special Maki Rolls
Submitted Monday, March 11, 2013 - 5:22pm [Dine in]

I've driven past here so many times and never thought to stop.. until they put up that large picture sign telling me to try their Awesome Roll. Well I went and I tried.
At my first visit here we dined in, it was packed so we sat at the bar and ordered a few different items. The spinach gomae was ok, I've had better.. The california roll was good. The Awesome Roll was... just as described, AWESOME. The Sushiholic Roll was also awesome :) Since then I've ordered take-out a few times. The wait times are longer then most places, she told me 25 minutes last time and I ended up having to wait 40 minutes. The room is cramped so not very comfy if you are there for take-out. For me the Special Maki Rolls are the star of this place, I only order them now, they are more expensive but are excellent. You can see photos of them all on their website.

Best Cappuccino on Commercial Drive
Submitted Monday, March 11, 2013 - 5:00pm [Dine in]

I've been to most of the coffee shops on commercial drive and this one makes the best cappuccino IMO. They offer a "traditional cappuccino" that is 5oz and is perfect.
They have real baristas working who know their stuff. Anyone can just pour espresso and milk into a cup but here they time their espresso pour, steam their milk to a proper micro foam and blend the drink properly with the pour, the perfectly poured latter art on top is the icing on the cake. If you just looking for a great cup then this is the place.

Submitted Monday, March 11, 2013 - 4:49pm [Dine in]

I came here for lunch today, place in cool inside I sat in a window seat and saw some interesting people walking along hastings. =) I liked the lunch menu options, they have a lot of great looking sandwiches to choose from.
I ate the Prosciutto Pear Brie Tartine open faced sandwich with a bowl of Tomato Soup. Both the soup and sandwich were tasty. The only thing I would prefer is if the open faced sandwich had 2 pieces of bread so that it was easier to eat. For a total of $12.36 taxes in this was a great lunch. I will be back to try out another sandwich in the future, the "duck confit" looked nice.

Great Tacos on Hastings (probably the best I've had in Vancouver)
Submitted Sunday, February 3, 2013 - 12:41pm [Take-out]

I came here on a friday around noon for lunch, the line up was right to the door and the place was full with nowhere to sit. They offer 4 meat tacos for $9.50 but they are tiny so I doubled that and grabbed 8 tacos for a total of about $21.50 and took them to go (it was tight and crammed inside) I had:
2 Pollo con mole (maple hills chicken with chocolate mole sauce)
2 Pascado (grilled season fish with pico de gallo)
2 Al Pastor (pork marinated in achiote chilli and pinapple)
2 Carnitas (pork confit with pickled red onions)
The food was all good, probably the best tacos I've had in Vancouver.. My favorite was the "pollo con mole" I'll be back sometime but I will try to avoid the lunch rush and next time just get 6 tacos.

I heard good things about this place so grabbed a box of 6 to try..
Citrus Dust
Mexican Mole
The Earl Grey
Original Glazed
Honey Glazed
Coffee cheesecake stuffed
Everyone agreed that there were good flavor options but they didn't wow or amaze anybody.. Just averagely good doughnuts but nothing special to tell more people about in our opinion.

my favorite place for doughnuts
Submitted Sunday, January 20, 2013 - 6:02pm [Dine in]

I've been here a few times now and have tried the following doughnuts..
Classic French Cruller
PB & J (peanut butter & jelly)
Salted Caramel
Apple Bacon Fritter
They are about $3 a piece and good enough to charge that amount. I love the unique flavors and they are really well made. My favorite is the cruller, it melts in your mouth. They make good coffee here as well.. although I prefer another place to this for coffee so I usually just stick to the yummy doughnuts only when I come here.

I had lunch here with my father, I ate the pulled chicken sandwich with a small chicken soup.
The food was good 4/5 no complaints there, I do think it was a little over priced though for what I got and the portion size.
For dessert I had the chocolate raspberry vanilla and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was decent and the dessert was great, it was very similar to a dessert I enjoy at another dessert place that I frequent (T.H)
