Best Pepper Steak
Submitted Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 11:05am [Dine in]

We had an early dinner here on the weekend before going to Bard on the Beach. We had a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers and 2 main courses and our bill was very reasonable. I had the pepper steak, had been looking forward to it all week and knew that's what I was going to order (it's actually hard to find a good one anymore) and it didn't disapoint, perfectly cooked, hot and juciy, excellent sauce.

Best Italian Food in Vancouver
Submitted Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 10:59am [Dine in]

Been meaning to write in about this restaurant for a while and mention what good food they have. I have tried a number of Italian resto's in vancouver, some good, some mediocre. Some, for the value, excellent. This restaurant is fine dining to be sure, but if I could afford to I would make this my Italian choice every time. The staff recognize you if you've beem there before and relax around you, which is nice, The room is nice but the food, oh my! You are hard pressed to swallow as you want to keep the flavours in your mouth as long as possible - you can tell this kitchen really, really knows what they are doing, I'm a great cook and I can't touch this quality - just fabulous.

Why did this get an award??

This place got "best new restaurant" a couple of years ago so we were excited to try it. The service was aloof from the get go, like she was doing us a favour, the menu interesting but the quality of food mediocre. With so many great restaurants, and so many good Italian places, I would not bother to go back.

Best Pizza ever!
Submitted Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - 10:24am [Dine in]

I think this place has the best pizza in town! And, though I don't usually order pasta when I go out, the pasta putinesca (sp) is great. They use fresh pasta, which some people might not be used to. Ignore the location (in a funny little indoor strip mall in the pink building at 1st and Commercial) and enjoy the ambiance when you are in there. have always had good service but most of all, their pizza is fantatstic!

Fails to meet expectations
Submitted Thursday, January 8, 2009 - 8:35pm [Dine in]

We dined a surprising 4 times at this new restaurant, once on our own accord and three times hosted by friends. Surprising because after 2 visits we normally would not have returned a third, let alone a 4th time.

On each visit our food was overcooked and lacking in taste. Portion sizes were inconsistent and food was often dry. It seems the person in charge of seasoning did not have a good palate as food was bland. With the exception of one dish, appetizers and main courses were universally disappointing and value for the dollar was poor. At least the food was inconsistent in its lack of quality; the service was all over the place. Did this restaurant not train their people? Servers were uninformed, often gave incorrect information and were universally stumped by even the simplest of questions like "what's the soup tonight". All that hype may have lead to higher expectations than most, but even without the hype this restaurant would have disappointed.
