Blethering Place, The2250 Oak Bay Ave, Victoria
For the experience
Submitted Monday, October 26, 2009 - 12:30am [Dine in]

I found everything very average about the Blethering Place. Having lived in Victoria for quite some time I have heard about this place so I decided to check it out. Its housed in a historic building that dates back to 1910s. I think as it is a known tourist destination to check out, it is built around that. Its more focused on the experience and the setting. Inside is decorated very nostalgically and you almost feel like you could be in the 1900s. The food itself is alright, nothing extremely special. They have a fairly wide and extensive menu. The prices were fair for what you got. I feel like a lot of people had very negative reviews about this place. We can't judge a place based on one persons reviews because it could be an isolated incident. When I went, the service was pretty good. The waitresses regularly stopped by to see if we needed anything. The food came fairly quickly as well. So overall it was an ok place. The food is nothing special but the nature of the restaurant is unique to Victoria. They also have afternoon tea and a wide variety of good sounding desserts that I didn't get a chance to try.

La Piola3189 Quadra St., Victoria
A great little spot

La Piola is a great little restaurant with amazing food. They don't have the largest menu, mostly pasta, pizza and other dishes. However they focus largely on using local foods and ingredients that are currently in season, which I think is amazing. They food was all very fresh and tasty. The portions are almost exactly right in my opinion. They aren't super massive so that you're dying after you eat and they're not tiny portions either. The best thing I had there was the desserts. Had the best teramisu and creme brulee I've ever tasted there. I'd definitely go back just for the desserts themselves.

The restaurant is fairly small with about 10 tables but it had a great atmosphere. Art hangs on the walls giving the restaurant a warm feel. The servers were all kind and prompt. If you ever get a chance go and try this place, its better than a lot of the other italian places in victoria.

John's Place723 Pandora Ave, Victoria
Great place for your family food fare

The breakfast at this place is amazing and has constant quality. They are reasonably priced and has good service. The food is good sized portions and very tasty. They have a fairly wide menu. Open fairly late for Victoria standards usually 9pm on weekdays. They get quite busy on weekends too so you may find yourself lining up. Definitely a place you can go back to multiple times.

Eugene's Greek Restaurant & Snack Bar3960 Shellbourne Ave, #3, Victoria
Very blah
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 5:42pm [Dine in]

Eugene's Greek restaurant is more of a fast food greek place.
There's a fairly wide variety on the menu but everything is pricier than normal for greek food. The portions were small and not filling at all. The calamari I got was really soggy and not so great. There is a 10% student discount if you show your student card. I wouldn't recommend going to this place if you're looking for decent greek food.
