I went here for my birthday with high hopes, but the flavours did not live up to my expectations. This is my first experience eating South Indian food. The dishes lacked salt. My husband order the lamb. He said it was chewy. I ordered the dosas to start. They were OK. The filling was sparse. When our entrees came, the server did not take our appetizer dishes so the table was a bit cramped. I ordered the lentil dumplings dish for my entree. The sauce was tasty, but the lentil dumplings were hard and inedible. Dessert was good. Both the gulab jamun and mango ice cream was nice. The mango ice cream appeared to have some freezer burn on it. This should not happen at a restaurant participating in Dine Out Vancouver.

We loved our experience at Handi. The ambiance is very nice. The food was excellent. The flavours were spicy and delicious. Service was very smooth. I would highly recommend this place for a romantic evening out, or a fun group dinner. Being a vegetarian, I had a lot of options. We ordered the pakoras and aloo chaat for our starters. The aloo chaat was lacking the crunch factor but the flavours were there. The pakoras were awesome! For our entree, we had the shahi paneer with raita and garlic naan. All 3 items were perfectly made. The shahi paneer had authentic flavour (not the westernized creamy buttery sauce), and the naan had so much flavour. I am definitely going back to Handi!
