Maurya Bistro1734 Marine Drive, West Vancouver
Buffet Not as good now.
Submitted Sunday, December 28, 2014 - 5:23pm [Dine in]

Today we ate the buffet at Maurya; the first time in awhile and were disappointed. This buffet has gone down hill since I last reviewed it. There is less choice in the buffet and items such as the butter chicken had a lack of chicken (we were able to fish out some chicken as we were there at the opening, but it was mostly sauce,) Poor service..no water refills offered, and plates not picked up until just before leaving. Time to find a new Indian Buffet.

Over priced-slow service
Submitted Wednesday, June 25, 2014 - 3:58pm [Dine in]

I started with gazpacho it was very good, my companion had the marinated vegetables which she said were "blah". The halibut was good, my companions salmon was very good. The service was really slow, with along wait between the courses. I felt the prices were quite high compared to other comparable restaurants.

Average Fish and Chips-Nothing Special
Submitted Thursday, August 29, 2013 - 9:06am [Dine in]

Nothing wrong wrong with the fish and chips, just very ordinary. Service was quick and efficient. It is certainly better than Dock's fish and chips (also in White Rock). For me the best fish and chips in the Vancouver area are Montgomery's fish and chips at the Lonsdale Quay, and Go Fish near Granville Island.

This restaurant has been around for a few years and I have always wanted to try it but never got around to it.
well today i tried it with their $8.95 lunch special. They have a meat and vegetarian special which varies each day. Today we had the lamb curry, with dal; which came with rice and lots of naan. This was a very filling lunch and I will come again.

Decent Fish and Chips.
Submitted Monday, February 25, 2013 - 5:41pm [Dine in]

Stopped here for lunch: this is a very old school seafood waterfront restaurant that seems to be a through back to an earlier time. Had the cod fins and chips; interesting that they use a breaded batter, that makes the fish crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Overall a very good meal.

Lunch at Fishworks
Submitted Friday, October 5, 2012 - 9:30pm [Dine in]

I joined two friends here for lunch. I had heard that it was a good restaurant for seafood; but my impression was that it is nothing special. I had the bouillabaisse; the positive was that it was loaded with shellfish and fish, but the taste was not there. Both my companions had the lobster bisque and rated it very good. One had the albacore tuna sandwich and rated it mediocre, the other had the salmon and rated it good. Overall it was a pleasant lunch, but the restaurant did not give me a reason to return.

Vegetarian Mexican
Submitted Thursday, October 4, 2012 - 4:50pm [Dine in]

Was here for lunch today, and was impressed with the food. I had the enchiladas with squash and the verde sauce...very good; my companion had the enchiladas with chipotle tofu and mole sauce ( tasting it I thought it was even better than my choice). We arrived a lunch time and were lucky to get a table, but by the time we finished it had cleared out a bit. I will be back again.

Real Mexican
Submitted Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 7:16pm [Dine in]

I saw this place from Les Faux Bourgeois and noticed it had lots of customers, so from that came the need to try it. I had the al pastor sopes (marinated pork with pineapple) and my companion had the cordero al cilantro (lamb with cilantro); both were good...food rating may be a 3.5. Plenty of sauces to try as well. Next time I will try the quesadillas. This place is basicly a takeout counter with a few tables and chairs, but similar to many places in Mexico.

Travelzoo coupon deal
Submitted Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - 10:42pm [Dine in]

We took advantage of a travelzoo deal to try this restaurant in the Pinnacle Hotel at Lonsdale Quay. The food was very good, crab cakes for me were very good, my companions salmon gravlax was even better. We both had the filet oscar and it was again very good. The service throughout was good but at times it was a bit slow. My only complaint was the ambient noise, from the music, the tvs and other dinners it was difficult to have a conversation. Overall an excellent meal.

Canadian Mexican food.
Submitted Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - 11:29pm [Dine in]

This is not a authentic Mexican restaurant, just a candianized version of a Mexican restaurant. Nothing wrong with this, just do not expect to get the same food as you get south of the border. They start you off with complementary taco chips and salsa; the salsa was very good, the chips so-so. This time I had the prawn tacos which came with a side salad and beans; nothing wrong with this as it was quite tasty. No problems with the service. The patio has a nice ambiance.

Interesting Vegetarian
Submitted Saturday, September 1, 2012 - 8:28pm [Dine in]

This is a different sort of vegetarian restaurant with several interesting items on the menu. My partner and I shared the artichoke pate as a starter; very nice with delicate flavours. For mains we shared the seasonal vegetables and the halloumi; both were outstanding and very tasty.
The restaurant is small and quite crowded with a very loud ambient noise level. There are no reservations so if you must have them this place is not for you.

First time on a friends suggestion. I was impressed with the quality and taste of the food here. This restaurant was very busy, but managed to give solid service with outstanding food. My only complaint was the parking; the lot was filled and with the PNE on, I had to park about 4 blocks away.

Great View
Submitted Wednesday, August 1, 2012 - 3:51pm [Dine in]

This was the second time I have dined here; and the first thing you notice is the view. This could be the best view restaurant in the city. Today I had the price fixte lunch special. I started with the caesar salad (good but not great); my companion had the lobster bisque and she rated it good. We both had the halibut and it was slightly overcooked but still good. The creme brule was very good. Overall a very pleasant lunch, made more enjoyable by the wonderful view on a sunny day.

Great French Restaurant
Submitted Friday, July 13, 2012 - 9:54pm [Dine in]

After my visit to Paris a few months ago, I wanted to try a french restaurant in Vancouver. I started with the tarte alsacienne which was excellent, my companion had the onion soup which she rated as good but not great. For the main course I had the beef tenderloin with a green peppercorn sauce which was very good.
My companion had the lamb which she said was excellent (she knows her lamb). The service was excellent.

Good Fish but needs improvement
Submitted Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 5:32pm [Dine in]

Had the 1 piece cod and chips. The cod was very good, but the chips were mediocre. Slow service, only 1 servor on duty. I feel that $9.99 for a 1 piece of cod and chips is expensive. There are better deals around with better service. There are so many better places in White Rock to eat.

An English pub style restaurant at Lonsdale Quay that is a pleasent location for lunch. The clientele seems to be mainly seniors. The food was good but not outstanding, I enjoyed my salmon burger. There is a wide variety of pub food along with bugers and sandwiches.

Now an ordinary greek place.
Submitted Friday, December 30, 2011 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

I have not been here for awhile; this used to be my favorite greek restaurant, but it is just ordinary ( I understand it is under new ownership). Nothing unpleasant just ordinary; nothing stands out, portions are large, but the taste does not seem to be here as it once was.

Great bread and baked goods
Submitted Friday, December 23, 2011 - 10:47pm [Take-out]

Terra Breads produces some of the best bread in the Vancouver area; the only bad thing is that there are limited places to purchase it. But the real pleasure of visiting a Terra Breads shop is the selection of outstanding baked goods. My favorite item is the roasted red pepper + spinach with asiago cheese focaccia. They need a bakery in North Vancouver.

Great Fish and Chips
Submitted Wednesday, December 7, 2011 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

This place in the food fair at Lonsdale Quay has been around for a long time and always provides great fish and chips. You do not expect much in way of ambience from a food fair, but on a nice day the view of the harbour is super. The fish is lightly battered unlike other places and it helps make the fish nice and crispy. The fresh lemon and tarter sauce is a nice touch.

Old standard Chinese restaurant
Submitted Sunday, December 4, 2011 - 12:50am [Dine in]

Been coming here off and on for a number of years; basically a cheap old school Chinese place. The food can vary a lot, but most of the time it's decent. Service is hit or miss, but the place is busy, so that's a bit of an excuse. Come in December you can pick up a nice bamboo calendar.
